I think that there are some players on this team who’ve been given life - and have been in the league in bad situations - and will take pay cuts to stay in Philly. Beckon, Baun, Rodgers, fit that mold. Plus being contenders always helps. TJ Edwards was here forever and hit a massive payday - he gets to win 7 games a season now in Chicago. Woopty doo.

Tbh i think becton is more likely to take a reduced contract to stay here. Hes said he hasn’t had this much fun in years. I also think he knows coaching has helped maximize him.

I also think the market still might hold against him durability concerns. Also I think some teams will say Jeff Stoutland has the ability to get the most out of him and we do not have a Jeff Stoutland here to do that. Because if you look at offensive lineman that the Eagles have let go in FA and went elsewhere, they have an exactly been great. Isaac seumalo has been the best. He was better the last two years with the eagles than he has with the Steelers. He’s been ok but was definitely better here

But Kevin O'Connell has the freaking Vikings 10-2 with Sam Darnold

Sean Payton has Denver at 8-5 with a rookie QB

But Embiid has been out back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back ..............

The guy has played in 4 of 19 games this year.  At what point does this "knee injury management" stuff go away?

What became of that investigation the league was doing into the Sixers, Embiid, rest, management, hodge-podge of nonsense?

At this point it’s not knee management. His knee is worse than they want to admit. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is done for the year at some point. No one wants to hear this might be better off just being awful this year and getting a top 5 pick then using it as an asset this offseason. Only negative is that pick might convey if it’s outside top 6. But odds more in your favor if you are really bad it doesn’t.

What do you think he is likely to be paid?

I believe Gesicki is a FA this year again as well.

Too early to know. I don’t think he’s with Atlanta next year. Wherever he goes will dictate how many targets he gets and production. It’s frankly why i think a team like the chargers who are in desperate need of weapons make sense. Harbaugh is the type of coach that’ll get the most out of him. Herbert is also best qb he’s had . He potentially could finally reach his potential there and if he does he’ll cash in. If he is stuck in Atlanta doing what he has then it’s much less

PUNTERS ARE PEOPLE TOO!!!

This insurance talk sent me down a rabbit hole.  I have written a boiler plate insurance clause for a player contract and then googled it.  Turns out they can insure the "unearned” portion of the signing bonus and that the club has an insurable interest in the player by contract.  @NCiggles would find this interesting.  Payments under the contract are considered an advance of any worker’s compensation award and thus any amount paid would be payable to the club.  In other words, his temporary and permanent disability awards go to the club and I suspect in essence reimburse a portion of the lost salary.  Peanuts but something is better than nothing.

I have a call into a friend of mine.  She headed up U S claims for a large multinational that was big in entertainment insurance so she had more contact with Lloyd’s and Bermuda in this arena.  She and I are both retired now but if anyone I know has any experience in the area of NFL insurance, it’s her.  Just curious now.  That has to be a Lloyd’s type policy or surplus (less governed) lines type of policy but the amounts involved suggest some level of pooling or reinsurance.  I suspect with the worker’s compensation data available and NFL’s own data that a premium basis wasn’t hard to develop.  Now adjusting would be interesting.  Normally, with worker’s compensation a worker returns to active duty (either light or full) when released by the medical providers to do so.  I suspect a policy such as this has a medical proviso that isn’t tied to returning to playing versus being able, injury wise, to do so because of the restrictions tied to coming off IR in the NFL.  I doubt we’ll ever know fully what cap was/will be restored.

Oh, I've seen them, and the "wons" (sic) that can't get it "write" (sic) between 'then' and 'than'.

Fascinating. Puts Bradbury’s contract in a whole new light.

How "hurt" is he?

He got hurt in a closed practice. Has a 2024 cap hit for 4.3M and a AAV of 12M. Could argue we should get 12M back in cap space.

I usually see that botched the other way.

"I like are team’s chances this year.”

They need punched in the balls.

I said something similar a few weeks ago when Mahomes did the fake step out of bounds/run for a big gain. 15 yard penalty if they pull that crap.

I like the idea of a fair catch signal vs a slide. Ball is spotted where the hand goes up. If it doesn't fair game.

I thinks McDermott would get more love (should) but Josh Allen is so good that i think people hold that against him as he has a top 3 Qb so expected to always be good. Similar with Reid with mahomes. the bills are 10-2. They are also 2-2 vs. teams over .500 and 8-0 vs. teams at or below .500. Beat Seahawks and chiefs and got smoked by the ravens and lost to the Texans.

One of the items in favor of McDermott is the significant roster turnover this offseason

Still one available roster spot on the Practice Squad.

I do think a fake slide/fake motion towards going OoB should be a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. The defense is at too much a disadvantage as it is.

Personal bias to not include him. I just don't like him

I can add a question about that issue to the question I e-mailed to Jason at OTC.  It will be interesting to see what his take is.

I’d argue their defense isn’t as good as in past years. What i went into about their run defense is bad and their pass defense has been good but really faced a bunch of teams with poor pass offenses. Their offense is better but i think Josh Allen has been the reason for that. He’s been playing at a mvp level.

I tend to agree with you, but it is an Eagles-centric question.

That was why I used Landon Dickerson's $6.5 million Cap Hit in 2025 as a proxy for what a Becton signing here might possibly cost

Gotta finish it in 2025, BG!

Agreed 100%, but if you and I set aside our bias, he has done an amazing job given the post-Wilson trade situation he inherited.

They should give it to Daboll. He didn't deserve it the first time he won it, so why stop now?
