In round 2, we get SEA if they win, and if GB wins, we get the TB/MIN winner. GB is the team to avoid in the divisional round, IMO. Getting WSH and MIN would be a dream scenario

I'd rather face GB than the Bucs. I know their record doesn't reflect it, but I think they're the more dangerous team. It's a moot point if they don't win their division, obviously.

Hilarious, how the announcer narrative went immediately to it being a good and gutsy call to go on 4th down at the end... after Goff literally fell down in the backfield but avoided disaster.  Wild.

I know they had some injuries, but that Packers team seemed flawed as heck last night. I'll take that vs a Bucs team that has a book on Hurts.

They had already called a timeout from the previous play so I knew that was off the table. The camera zoomed in on their kicker's face and he was as confused as anyone as to wtf was going on.

They are so freaking lucky. Carter or Williams would have been in his face destroying that.

Some thoughts after last night, as it appears the one seed and the bye are HIGHLY unlikely at this point.

1. If we are locked into the 2 seed going into week 18, just use that as the bye. When looking at the potential NFC playoff bracket, being the 2 seed might be the easier path. Let's assume it's 1) DET, 2) PHI, 3) SEA, 4) TB (I think they pass ATL), 5) MIN, 6) GB and 7) WSH. So we get Washington in round 1, a game we should be able to handle. In round 2, we get SEA if they win, and if GB wins, we get the TB/MIN winner. GB is the team to avoid in the divisional round, IMO. Getting WSH and MIN would be a dream scenario.

2. NFL Refs really need to be a little less obvious this year.

3. Dan Campbell is a complete idiot. If Nick made those boneheaded 4th down calls, the media would be slaughtering him. But we have to hear clowns praise Campbell. Going for the 4th down in their own territory was idiotic and gave the Packers the lead. Going for it instead of kicking the FG with 40 seconds left was completely insane - it worked, but it was a horrible decision. He is 100% going to cost them a playoff game. The double standard is amazing.

I hear you... but assuming the Eagles handle their business in a couple weeks and beat Washington... which would go a long way towards ending the division race and making sure Week 18 becomes meaningless... it makes the Eagles need to be able to beat Washington 3 times in the same season.  That's really hard to do in the NFL.

Personally, I'm not as concerned about GB.  Maybe I should be, but I'm just not buying into them.  But, I don't want any part of TB.  They are the one I have absolutely zero interest in facing off against.

But, I don't see the double standard with Campbell.  We don't focus on his boneheaded decisions, because he's the HC of the Lions, not the Eagles.  If he were, we'd be screaming about his stupidity too, but his stupidity doesn't affect us.  So, we don't care, and therefore, we don't talk about it.

Avoid Tampa at all costs. There are better teams than them but Bowles absolutely owns Hurts. And there is just bad voodoo surrounding Tampa matchups for over 20 years now.

I don't fear the Bucs and want the revenge. We should have AJ, DeVonta and Lane this time.

Jeez, didn't realize they had already used a timeout.

Campbell really is a moron. It's going to cost them.

We lit them up week 3 of last year. Last 2 games we weren't at close to full strength (no AJ in playoffs, no AJ/DeVonta/Lane earlier this year).

The Bucs have never beaten an Eagles team with AJ Brown...

More importantly, they might just be the more dangerous team FOR THE EAGLES.  And frankly, that's the only matchup that matters to me.

Hard to know that until the week leading up to the game.

It is possible that even if the Eagles get the #2 seed that the Lions play GB in the divisional and the Packers beat the Lions. I'd rather have home field of course, but playing Washington and say Seattle or Arizona rather than just GB is not a substantially worse option. Of course if the Lions keep winning you'd have to go there, but the Lions also have their only loss at home, so. It's not like they're some terrible road team.

At the end of the day the Eagles are either good enough to go the distance or they aren't. And if not, it'll likely be because their passing game isn't up to snuff and not seeding.

When you're so dumb that even Acho gets to call you stupid...

No idea why people are pissing themselves over the mediocre Buccaneers.  We'll absolutely kill them if we see them in the playoffs.  Green Bay is a much bigger threat.

Nah, I disagree, we need to be smarter.

I'd be furious if Nick decided to go for it in a similar situation in the playoffs. 30 seconds, no timeouts... there's no need to be an idiot, just win the game.

In that specific situation, sure.

But as a strategy throughout the game? I’d be making sure the brotherly shove is flawless and I’d be working on 4th and 3 type situational plays.

I’m not as down on the decision as most folks are. At least I could follow the logic...”if we convert, we can milk the clock and win it at the gun on an even closer kick whereas if we kick now, we give them a shot to tie it right back up”. But I think part of the strategy was based on precisely what you’re saying. They thought that Green Bay would think they were just gonna stand there for show to try to draw them offside and wouldn’t be prepared like they normally would and that they could get an easy conversion. I think that has some validity. Now, it almost failed because Goff got stepped on, but the odds of something that happening are a lot less than their kicker missing that field goal.

So when did the Lions become the Chiefs? NFL really being too obvious.

This is the problem with facing the Lions in the playoffs, especially in Detroit.  We'll have to beat them, AND the refs.

This. The Packers are legit. We’re better and we’d be the favorite, but it’s a tough matchup. We’re better than the Bucs, despite the last two results when we had notable injuries.

The TO was out of the question, they had just called one so it would have been a penalty. The announcers were thinking that too, but it wasn't possible. The only alternative was that the Lions didn't care about a delay of game, but that would have been stupid too.

EDIT: Oh, I hadn't read that we_gotta_believe already mentioned it.

Sucks.  Have a real good team but it doesn't matter because DeTroit will get the #1 seed and there is no winning there in the playoffs.  So depressing.

Very true. They have only lost once at home in the playoffs in their 94 years: 1993 vs the Packers.  This is a rock solid trend given the huge sample size.  My logic is bullet proof.

But the kicker still has to make the FG either way to win the game, and they only got marginally closer with the conversion. Analytically, the probability of them losing the game because of a failed 4th down conversion outweighed the chances of them converting on 4th down and then making the FG.

You can maybe make the argument that there's an emotional and motivational component to it, by placing an immense amount of trust in the offense that you're gonna need to ride into the playoffs and beyond. I get that, and while it's tough to quantify, you can hear the effect something like that has in the sound of Goff's voice after the game.

But setting all that aside and dispassionately assessing it strictly by the numbers, the math is very clear, they should've kicked it on 4th down.
