This team doesnt really need free agents. Howie will keep everyone he wants to keep.

I like Becton also but it's not like we haven't had a dominant OL for years.  It will be dominant next year whether he is here or not, in large part thanks to Stoutland.

And you know better than most that a player's value is a function of what they are paid.  Otherwise you wouldn't be floating far-fetched scenarios of trading away our QB to save cap.

Becton off the scrap heap this year is fantastic, and Stoutland gets us max value from him.  What value we get from Becton next year depends on how much he is paid, and the opportunity cost of spending the money on him instead of on our defense for example, when we know Stoutland will field a dominant unit with or without him.

We’ve had a dominant OL because of talent though.

We have consistently brought in REALLY talented players. And as they develop, we’ve KEPT THEM. We have always paid our OL well and kept them long term.

I mean, look at the line — Mailata is just a bizarre genetic freak of nature with his size, strength, speed, and coordination. Dickerson was a high second round pick as an interior lineman, 6’6” 330 pounds, strong as an ox, and athletic. Jurgens is another athletic freak taken in the second round to play center. Becton was what 11th overall and physically he’s comparable to Mailata. And then Lane Johnson, who is literally the most athletic offensive tackle in the history of the combine.

Yes of course signing Becton next year is another opportunity cost. I say the opportunity cost of giving him a big contract in exchange for 5 years of elite guard play (and maybe tackle play) is preferable to letting him walk to save cap space and maybe getting a comp pick.

Not when you have a known quantity behind him.

we have nothing behind Baun, who will cost less

Williams is also now a rising player

I dont know if Milton Williams is rising or not. His season plays out exactly the same every year. Quiet beginning. The guy in Detroit outshines him. People in here whine about Howie not drafting McNeil. Then Milton Williams turns it on. People gush over how he finished the season and expect huge things from him the following year (but never credit Howie for drafting him over McNeil). This has repeated exactly the same cycle for 3 years in a row. Is he actually ascending this year? Or is it just his typical 2nd half of the year surge?

That’s right let’s go Oregon

The Eagles did not use one of their activations on Albert O, nor is he still affiliated with the team. You claimed both things to be true. Neither were.

They did. It was the new IR rule where you can IR up to two players at cutdown day but have to designate them at the time to return. Eagles have plenty left anyway and will get two more when they make the playoffs.

Even with the known quantity, it’s known to be significantly worse with significantly less upside.

Agreed we should keep Baun as well.

Williams is my third choice. You can get another smaller, quick DT. This draft is loaded with them.

You might wait a decade to even get a chance at a talent like Becton again. Seriously, wat ch this guy closely. At his size, he is pulling around Mailata on the left and then has the balance and agility to pivot and seal towards the inside. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Sure, other guards have done this… but they almost always weigh 50-70 pounds less! Even someone like Shawn Andrews would be 30 pounds less.

The chance of replacing any of our other free agents with a similar talent is MUCH higher than replacing Becton with a similar talent. There are only ever going to be a handful of people on earth with this combination of size and movement skills. You don’t let this gift from god staring you straight in the face walk away.

Dont agree at all. Failed tackles are always around. Guards are always around

effective DTs are not

Penn state dominating and clear officiating bias enters the chat again. Penn state are the true winners of this game.

This has been a good game and a lot closer than I expected. My hats off to Penn State for playing hard. I didn’t think they had a chance in this one but this one is turning into a classic

Of course right when I post that they did the worst play call possible

Running it down their throats and Frames blows its, so so shocked

Let's update that record to 1-14 vs Top 5 teams for Frames.

What do all the haters gotta say now? Another big game win for Jimmy Franks.

Penn State running for 8.3 YPA but let’s chuck up a 50-50 ball. Give that idiot an extension.

We have the best QB in the NFC and the best QB in franchise history.  And he's still only 26 years old despite all his accomplishments.

Failed tackles that are motivated, 6’7”, 365 pounds, with the athleticism to pull from RG all the way around the LT, and then seal the LBs on the inside are virtually non existent. Forget always around. That’s just laughable. There are only 5 OL in the entire NFL with similar size. Not including the athleticism — just size. Mailata is the only other one with the movement skills to do this.

Becton is a unicorn, physically. You don’t let this guy walk. Heck, I would let Jurgens walk before Becton. Much easier to find a 300 pound center with athleticism than a 365 pound tackle with athleticism. Also much easier to find a good but not great DT than a guy like Becton.
