No serious football fan could watch that and think Oregon were the real victors. There was clear and obvious corruption going on. The calls that went against Penn State were unconscionable. The booth overturned a catch that didn’t come remotely close to hitting the ground. The officials gave it to Oregon, it was not a legitimate victory. You have to account for officiating bias to declare the real victor here.

If the Eagles kicked a game winning field goal down 2 with 5 seconds left and it clearly went through the uprights right down the middle but the refs waved it as no good, every Eagles fan would ignore the NFL’s corrupt ruling and declare the Eagles victors. So why not here? Penn state got cheated. They always get cheated. The ncaa has coordinated to rig games to get back at them for the Sandusky scandal for years.

I wouldn’t say Steen has looked appreciably worse; rather, Becton has looked significantly better. As in way better. Steen has physical limitations that Becton does not. Right now, the Eagles have the best set of guards in the league. It boggles my mind that some folks don’t see this. Becton’s floor is above Steen’s ceiling. He’s bigger, stronger, faster, and quicker. And meaner. It’s really not close, and Steen is a very capable player.

Steen is probably in the top half of NFL Guards, but he is what he is and not likely to progress other than a little bit around the edges. Becton on the other hand has plenty of room to develop further … not only one position, but possibly two.

They did.  I expected them to be blown out so the close game gives me hope at least that they might be able to win a playoff game.  Maybe even two?  IDK, but might be able to win one at home at least. Franklin is a trash coach though so we will see.

I didn’t say Becton sucked. I said I’d just prefer to keep Williams and Sweat. That’s more about positional value than the quality of the player. I think Becton working out is, in itself, a case for why he should be prioritized last. The Eagles just filled that RG hole with a guard picked up off the scrap heap. So they’ve shown they can do that already. I don’t think it’s going to be easy to replace Milton Williams, Baun, or Sweat. And I think you can find quality guards in middle rounds of the draft that I’d trust with Stoutland coaching them up. I think it’s harder to find starting caliber DTs and edge rushers. But ideally I’d like to keep all of them and I think they have a good chance to.

But I’d be pretty surprised if Becton leaves. He likes it here and has said he wants to stay and finally found a home that fits.

Regarding your final paragraph Howie will no doubt work some incentive clause magic.

All things said, that Oregon CB had a fistful of jersey on that game-ending INT. They showed it a dozen times.

But has been said. Keep pounding the run game there.

We have the best QB in the NFC and the best QB in franchise history.  And he's still only 26 years old despite all his accomplishments.

We will be on polar extremes on this but hope you end up being right.

Look at the date on your post … October.  Then understand what happened at that time … his window to POSSIBLY come back was opened.  At the end of that window the team had two options.  Check the team roster to get the answer to which option they chose.

They did. It was the new IR rule where you can IR up to two players at cutdown day but have to designate them at the time to return. Eagles have plenty left anyway and will get two more when they make the playoffs.

They didn’t.  Instead they chose to release him when he reached the end of his activation window.

So pick another guy. He was just an example.

That’s not how drafting a QB works.

Such big favorites to.orrow with a much better Pittsburgh team coming up that there is a very high risk Eagles lose tomorrow.

They did though when they placed him on IR.  It was part of the rule with the timing that they did it.

It is literally how drafting a QB works. You literally pick a guy.

The other thing to consider is how valuable Steen is as a backup. Allowing Becton to walk downgrades us at two roster spots — starting RG and backup OG.

If we keep Becton, it not only gives us a freakish right guard, but suddenly Steen is among the best backup interior lineman in the NFL.

For a team that is built to run, that matters. We’ve been lucky so far to not have major injuries on the OL, but it’s certainly a risk for which we need to prepare. Re-signing Becton solves these issues emphatically.

We can have Baun, Becton, and Williams.

Believe in the Wizard Sleeve.

He has the Spread Sheets.

We will lose Sweat.

It happens when you push the Wizard Sleeve on the Spread Sheets.

Poor poor Penn State. Why does it always happen to them?

I’m a psu fan and I’m not blaming that on the officials. Oregons offense was 2 steps ahead of psu. Especially early. Looked like pro coaching vs when I coached my flag football team in college

Long shot ask, does anyone know of any Eagles/sports bar in Prague that would carry the game?

The way Hurts’ contract is structured I don’t think there’s any real discussion about moving on from him until after the 2026 season.

This ^

Yes if you have a solid Qb on a rookie deal, and he’s surrounded by this current roster, it would be a huge advantage.  Two issues with this.  The first is the one you pointed out.  Hurts’ contract structure negates much of the rookie deal advantage.  Second, there is (likely) no solid QB worth taking in this draft.

Besides, Hurts’ contract in another year is middle of the pack relative to the rest of the league anyway.

Hurts is not the kind of QB I would give a 3rd contract to.  He’s certainly is from a leadership/character perspective, but too much of his value is in his ability as a runner…and that ability won’t age as well as other traits.  I definitely see the value in moving on from Hurts when it becomes feasible, but that time is a couple years out yet

I’ve only just found out that the kicking ball is different.

how did I not know this ?

I mean, yes…technically you’re right that to draft a QB, you have to pick one.  However you’re neglecting the rest of your take…which is how end up being the Vikings or Broncos for example (along with a long list of other teams).

Sorry.  I think it was my job to tell you.  A bunch of years ago, the NFL brought out new balls for kicking, designated with "K" on it.  These balls are basically right out of the box. The NFL did this, because kickers were doctoring the balls up too much so that they would go further. Of course since that rule, kicks have gotten progressively even longer.  Not sure what the point of the rule is anymore.
