I asked one of my biz partners. Owns a TV repair shop.  Used to have burn in issues.  Not anymore.  Do not buy LG though of anything, apparently.

Also, steer clear of Sony. I have a friend in the business who tells me Sony TVs are clearly the best but are so over engineered that something is always going wrong and is expensive to fix.

OT: anyone have experience with OLED tvs? Are they worth it?

Depends on usage. Where, when, and what you'll be watching determines if it's the right option. If it's in a room with high ambient light levels (ie lots of windows) you might want to compare against options with higher luminance for daytime viewing. But for nighttime viewing, OLED is still king. Nothing can touch the infinite contrast, though some of the newer LCD panels are getting closer in color gamut coverage and actually are now beating OLED in color volume.

Long term, there's degradation and burn in concerns but that can be mitigated. If you'll be watching in the daytime, and if you're not sensitive to blooming or you won't have any off-angle viewing, you should give some of the top-end LCDs a long look. They are pants-shittingly bright for those scenes which really take advantage of HDR/Dolby Vision.

I don’t hate them either, but I will if we get the chance to play them.

I’ll certainly hate them for the week necessary.

Never had an issue with my Sony TVs…long time user of their TVs too.  But perhaps I’ve just been lucky.

This is helpful thx

its a main room probably a 65

i have a 110” projector screen in the basement 😁

Projection technology is nearing obsolescence at that size. They cut LCD panels at 98" with full array backlights now. Sony and TCL have models under $5k I believe (used to be like $20k just a few years ago.)

Sony is still a solid choice. I haven't heard that their failure rates are any worse than LG or Samsung.

Good site for reviews

https://www.rtings.com/

By far the best site out there, those guys really know their stuff. Lots of good info and technical measurements.

My current TV is a TCL.  I heard TCL makes panels for Sony anyway, so I just went with one of those since they are so much cheaper.   Good option for those looking for a budget friendly choice.

Was just in the market for a TV.

Depends on the brand in terms of quality, obviously. I’ve seen some lower brand OLEDs with very inconsistent picture to the point that it’s distracting. Why pay 2008 prices for a TV if you’re not getting the best…

So for me, it was Sony or bust. The picture was amazing but for me not worth 5x the price of a budget 4K. But if you don’t care about price and just want the best, get the Sony OLED.

Who the hell are we rooting for this week, besides our team?

I get the easy ones like the Bears over the Lions and Seahawks over the Vikes.  And Niners to stay in the statistical playoff race so they play hard next week.

Steelers/Ravens?  Browns/Bengals?  Saints/Packers? Do we care which in these since we beat them all?

Teams we beat we want them to win?  Like Rams over Jets, Jags over Raiders, Panthers over Cards?

Who else? Falcons to lose both because they beat us and because we play and presumably beat the Giants 2x?  Or we want the Falcons to win so their strength rating improves (and we lost to a stronger team)? Same with the Bucs over the boyz? We want Tampa?

I haven’t either.  I have a 65” QLED Samsung in my family room that I love.  It was my late father’s set and it has to be 7-8 years old now…still going strong.  You named all of the big 3.  They all make a solid product (I have no personal experience with LG, but I have mainly heard good things)

I have a TCL 55'' in my bedroom that, when watching at night, bright scenes feel blinding like you just stepped in to a bright bathroom out of the dark first thing in the morning.

I would say LG is king in the OLED space. Sony may be comparable but there is no reason to pay more for their label on the front of your set. You gain nothing in quality.

If youre not going OLED, then I see no reason to buy anything but TCL these days.

What someone else said about LG is true otherwise. Any other appliance, never buy LG. Samsung appliances suck too.

All I do is budget options.   I have a TCL in one room... an Insignia in the other.  The Insignia had the LEDs go a while back.  A quick Youtube search and I found that it was a pretty easy fix... once you get the panels off.   Replaced the LEDs... and voila... like a brand new TV.   The replacement LEDs only ran about $60 or so... way cheaper than a new TV.     (And honestly, it was a lot of fun to take apart and fix!)

It's true that Sony is still using LGD panels, but you're paying a premium for their video processor and OS (Android vs WebOS.) Whether it's worth the price is subjective, but TCL's motion handling wasn't very good last I recall reading. That's one of the reasons why one might consider paying a bit more for a Sony. Upscaling is another but that's dependent on how much sub 4k content you'd be watching through the native apps (external media devices do their own upscaling.)

I think so…at least they were when I got mine 3 years ago.  Unparalleled black level imo.  But where the TV is going to be in the home matters.  Mine is in my basement…not a lot of external light coming in.  I got an 83 inch Sony OLED where we watch all of our movies… And it’s where I watch the Eagles games.

If it’s going to go in a family room where there’s a lot of windows…no need to go OLED there imo.  Unless things have changed significantly recently, the non-OLED TVs are better in brighter rooms.

Pretty sure Sony is still sourcing them from AUO and Sharp.

Sad we only have 3 games left until next year after this Sunday.

Watch the birds on a JVC projector mostly, but Samsung/LG/Sony are pretty interchangeable for lcd tv.  Depends on what interface you like (I like Samsung).

90% of content you watch is going to be 1080p, 9% 4k, 1% (at absolute most) something better.

Content limitations make the tvs generic.  You’ll notice the difference at best buy or Costco when you are looking at 8k content.  You’ll never see that at home.

Sloppy offense for both Notre Dame and Indiana out the gate

One of the biggest issues with Sammys are lack of DV support if you plan to watch movies.
