Curious how much the NFL makes from all the fines from players throughout the year

They don’t "make” anything. Half goes to the NFLPA the other half goes to charities.

The point would be to get a unicorn athlete on the cheap. Maybe you can unlock his potential. If so, you’ve got a stud. If not, you’ll still probably get the pick back from the trade. So the move is deferring the use of a low draft pick for 2 years in exchange for 1 year of Pitts.

Just great optionality in such a scenario with very little risk.

Say he plays well next season, your choices are  offer him a long term contract or let him walk in FA for what’s probably a 4th rd comp in 2027 draft at best. If you sign him long term, you put a significant amount of money into your skill players, and a guy who will be 4th in pecking order in targets who doesn’t offer anything in blocking game for Saquon. It also gives Eagles less money for Jalen Carter, who will likely get highest paid Defensive player in league type money as well as Nolan Smith who’s turned the corner as late. I’m sure Howie could figure it out, but I’d much rather keep those two long term. It also gives Eagles less flexibility for figuring out long term players at RG & RT. Or hypothetically Eagles let him walk to gain the comp pick, which is wishful thinking, & Eagles still don’t really have  long term answer at TE position.

As opposed to taking advantage of deep TE draft in the 2nd-4th round, on a rookie contract for next 4 years, chance to sit behind & learn from Goedert for a year, and develop in system as potential long term option, keep that day 3 pick in lieu of trading for Pitts to find another young cheap player.

A 1,000 yard target.

Which we just discussed is not what we need at TE. His blocking is trash. He is an F on his best day and probably just an oversized wr. Terrible investment of reaources, at least for the Eagles

There is a reason guys like Noah Gray are around pretty much every year. And he was a late pick/udfa i wanted

Roughing the passer was called. Thats what people are complaining about for some reason.

Mahomes was hit in the head. Not allowed to hit the QB in the head anymore. Seems pretty simple

Hmm. Maybe they should have tried an 8 team playoff first.

I know they lost the game, but I think Cade Klubnik is the kind of QB you could try to bring in as a game manager who has the ability to move the sticks with his feet. He's got talent, but is never going to be THE guy, but if there's a team willing to buck the trend of a franchise QB and replacing the QB every 4 years, Klubnik could be a good QB to try that with.

Henderson would look real good in Eagles green

If you aren’t getting a dynamic player at TE, I wouldn’t use a top 100 pick:

It’s just too easy to find someone like Brent Celek outside the top 100 picks.

Celek certainly wasn’t the receiving threat he ended up rounded out to be…but finding a complete TE outside the top 100 isn’t exactly easy.  That’s 1 dimensional territory.

Very disappointed in these 1st round games.

Figured ND and Penn St games wouldn't be close but expected more from the other games.  Especially Tennessee.

Clemson/Texas got pretty exciting in the 2nd half.

Sidenote, watching a Texas game and the amount of times they show Matthew McConaughey is just as annoying as Chiefs games and Taylor Swift.

Haha okay and how much is that?

Yeah nice effort by 35 but that's not a catch.

Wow the call stands. Okay then.

Some article said last year was $5M but also higher than normal

Falcons are hilariously bad by the way they handled the offseason

You don’t think most of one season of Kirk Cousins was worth the $92M he’ll end up getting paid?  Also, we haven’t seen Penix play a down yet; it would be doubly hilarious if he looks as bad or worse than Cousins.

Also — just a reminder, every defensive player in the draft was still on the board when the Falcons selected.

I think you can fairly easily get a blocker or a good receiving TE outside the top 100, but someone who has a shot at projecting as both will usually cost you a 3 or better, IMO.

UT needs to find the end zone.

If you’re telling me I can trade a 5th or 6th round pick for 1 year of good starting level play, that’s a win all day, every day.

You are overvaluing late round picks by a lot. A 5th round pick has about a 5% chance of becoming a starter. A 6th round is 2%.

In other words, your expected value from a 5th round pick is 3.4 starts at a reasonable starting level of play. For a 6th round pick, it’s 1.4 starts. And this is calculated while assuming the "hit” would start from day 1. In reality it’s about 25% lower than that since almost no late round picks start from day 1 as a rookie.

If any GM is ever offered a starting level player on a rookie deal for a 5th round pick or later, it’s basically a no brainer unless there are injury or character concerns.

Disagree. I think it’s relatively easy to find a solid blocker who can catch short passes and break a tackle vs a DB. Celek is obviously a realistic best case type of situation, but there are lots of decent TEs outside the top 100.

Let's do a 'dream sequence' for a moment. We just won the NFCCG and we get to pick an AFC team to play in the Super Bowl.

The teams to pick from are Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Kansas City.

Who would you prefer to beat from those three?

Beating Buffalo would complete their beatdown by the NFC East in the Super Bowl. Beating Pittsburgh would give PA residents in-state bragging rights, and beating Kansas City would even the score with Andy.

I'll take any of the three, or any other Super Bowl victory, for that matter. But which 'storyline' would be the sweetest?

My dream sequence (and best storyline) is a super bowl rematch with KC and we absolutely curb stomp them, which is what should happen if we did play them except they have the refs in their pockets.

Realistically whoever wins the NFC is probably playing Buffalo.

NFL script may not get the Lions. They aren't losing out on both. The refs will screw the Eagles bad. I'm hoping for revenge as well, though.
