We lucked out with Mitchell and DeJean, exceptional value at a position of weakness.

We don't have the holes we had after 2023.

And we're picking later. We'll be looking at players like Hunt, who hardly played until the second half, but by the SB had worked his way into the edge rotation.

The draft fell in your favor, I wouldn't call that luck. The work was done with all the pre-draft evaluations, offseason development, camp practice, etc. It worked out, but not because of luck.

Thankful for the other teams that contributed to the Eagles win.

  • Giants: gifted us Barkley and DeVonta (partial credit to the Cowboys)
  • Commanders: traded to give us DeJean, and allowed us to dominate them in the NFCCG
  • Titans: traded away AJ Brown, which got their GM fired
  • Saints: Gave us CJGJ the first time, Baun, a 1st round pick used to get Jalen Carter, and hosted us in their stadium for our 2nd Super Bowl win. Previously Sproles and Malcolm Jenkins too. Now they get Moore from us, good luck you'll need it.
  • The Bears for trading with us so we could draft Jalen Carter
  • Jets for taking Reddick and his contract and Betcon, makes up for Huff
  • Every team who passed on Q and DeJean so they fell to us
  • Dolphins for partying and whining about hard work, sending Fangio to Philly

Any others?

Can thank Dallas for letting Kellen Moore go.

I think DeJean will eventually be a starting S who moves to slot in the 5 man secondary.

He can play outside, but is unlikely to be dominant there, whereas inside, he gives Fangio a Swiss army knife type player who can play SS, FS, NCB, zone, man.

Talk about disguising coverages, you not only have to know where DeJean is, but what role he seems to be filling.

And it gives you a lot of roster flexibility.

Unique combination of size, strength, speed and smarts.

Of course Hazleton disagrees with you.  Like clockwork.

You put Allen or Lamar behind the Eagles line this year and you guys become only the second undefeated team in the history of the NFL and likely end up with a lot more passing yds, meaning you aren't as dependent on Saquon's almost 3k yds...

Got to disagree.  Allen and occasionally Lamar can be turnover risks.  The dialing back for Hurts was to teach him how not to be a turnover risk. Allen is more streaky in that area than most realize. Frankly, his tightness is why the Eagles were playing KC. Hurts doesn’t get tight like that.

So I'm going to order one SB patch jersey. Maybe two. I don't think I want to do Hurts since I own like 3 other Hurts jerseys. If I didn't own one I probably would since he was MVP. I'm thinking Jalen Carter maybe.

I’m going to order a Brown name plate for my #11 jersey.

My son wore his black Wentz jersey that his sister found when thrifting.

He got a high five every time AJ made a play on Sunday.

They’re turnover risks because their entire offense is put on their shoulders, they don’t have our OL, nor do they have the skill players we do.

If you switch Allen with Hurts the Bills are picking in the top 10 and we still win the Super Bowl, probably with the 1 seed.

One thing about the still excellent rosters of Lamar, Allen, and Mahomes:

They are year 8, 7, and 7 QBs. Their peak rosters were a few years ago. (Tyreek Hill, Prime Diggs, etc)

Hurts is in year 5 and is hitting his peak roster.

Its unfair to Hurts to blame him for the natural flow of salary cap and big price tag QBs.

His roster likely won't be as strong in 3 years.

His job is to win. Its not his job to make you come to terms emotionally about AJ and DeVonta being better than Amare Cooper and Khalil Shakir.

Shout out to the 4 guys I've been hardest on this year.

Jahan Dotson: Was so annoyed by the reaction to the trade - "well ackshually guysh we just got a 1st round pick for a 3rd." Was ridiculous. But kudos to Dotson for accepting his role and making the first big offensive play of the Super Bowl. Dude's not a 1, but he's a damn Eagle.

Kenny Gainwell: Dude has delivered this year on offense and especially STs. Rocked up a lot since getting drafted, has improved every year. That open field tackle he made on the early kick will be forgotten, but it was critical to our jumping on the Chiefs early. Actually sad to see him possibly go. A ton of respect for him.

Jake Elliott: I think it was clear Elliott was dealing with some kind of injury this year - he was striking the ball hard but missing kind of the same way every time. Beau Allen confirmed it recently. But in the biggest game of the year, he became the old Jake the Make again.

Avonte Maddox: A shell of the above average NB he once was, that 4th down stop was the old Maddox, if only for 1 last play.

I'm relaxed about next season, Howie plays roster chess, he's always thinking 3 moves ahead.

And he stockpiles people, Ojomo, Booker, Young are all 3-4 DE types, the truly irreplaceable guys are Carter and Davis - Carter is obvious, but stop and think about how hard it is to find a true NT v a 4-3/3-4 type pass rushing DT. Davis sets the based defense against the run, the same way Carter sets the pass rush.

Davis somewhat quietly had two sacks in the NFCCG and the SB.  Hurtt has done a solid job making sure that Davis excels at what he is naturally good at, while slowly expanding his capabilities from run D to a combination of run and pass D.  I expect that progression to continue.

I also expect Carter to see snaps as an Edge.

Regarding your thoughts about finding a true NT, Igglesblitz discussed a solid possibility when covering the Senior Bowl … "Jamaree Caldwell is another intriguing DL. He is 6-2, 342. Why go for a NT when you already have Jordan Davis? Caldwell played NT for Oregon this year. He played for Houston the previous three years and got moved around. His Houston tape is really fun to watch. Caldwell moves well for such a big dude. He has a very good motor. I would like to see him drop down to 325 to 330. I think that would help him to be more of a playmaker. But he can still move at that size”

Was hoping the segment would've been a bit longer but still a fun watch. I've never seen Hurts smile as big as when they showed that clip of Saquon shotgunning a beer. He was loving that.

Calls one of the best games defensively in SB history; can't hold the flag facing the right way.

The picture is probably flipped horizontally.  I see lots of photos where the writing is backwards.  Once they are flipped using Photos or Photoshop the words are readable.

I get it, but no defensive players.

Awesome thread. Harlan always does a great job.

I respect your opinion, but over the season Allen had fewer TO than Hurts 8 to 10, Allen's tightness isn't the reason they lost the AFCCG, he had a decent game (0 TOs, 2 TD's, 104.7 RTG), they lost because they played KC/Refs @ KC and had two separate 1st downs inexplicably not awarded to them on critical drives. I don't have to be right, but Allen being a TO risk in this instance doesn't fly (no pun intended), not to mention he went 13-4 with signficantly less talent on his team (on both sides of the ball).

Lane has always been a more consistent player with no real weaknesses.  Kelce had struggles at different times with bigger DTs and with holding.  Jason Peters is still probably the number 1 OL.  Lane probably needs 2 more very good seasons to move past Jason.  I think he's probably at least even with Kelce already.  Of course, it's not exactly apples to apples.

Peters was great but dude always got hurt, Lane had a stretch where hed miss games but Peters would miss seasons.

Lane also has played in 3 superbowls to Peters 0 and won ,2: to Peters 1.

Peters was a much better Run Blocker but as a pass blocker while Peters was an Elite LT Id give Lane the edge

Then again Peters never got busted for PEDs.

The level of talent the Eagles have had O line for the last 25 years has been impressive and the last 10 years cant think of a team maybe ever thats had the talent the eagles have had over that time.

So do the Eagles consider bringing in competition or are we confident that Jake can be what he always has been? He sure looked great on Sunday, and he also handled the kickoffs.

There was a post recently that said Elliott has been dealing with an injury all season.  If that is true then what Sunday represented was the first "no tomorrow” game of the season … with no worries about the consequences of making the injury worse.
