What will be really funny is when Howie signs Williams, Becton & Baun. All of these arguments will be null and void. I think the guy who's most likely to not get that large of a deal is Becton, with knee concerns and Stout being the guard whisperer. If they can grab him for 2/20, I do believe all 3 is possible. May have to trade Davis for a 3rd rounder, which is the surprise I expect here if I am reading Fangio and his actions correctly. Goes to Arizona to be with Gannon and gets a nice extension.

The only problem I have with signing Becton is 4/5ths of the line will likely be towards the top of the market deals next year. O-line is important but if Becton is looking for a top end deal that’s a poor choice of roster allocation.

But is he looking for a top end deal?  We don’t know if that is the case.

I know Garrett is a rare talent and has been one of the most dominating defensive players in his 8-year career. But it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Eagles, who already have 2 young edge rushers with a ton of talent and are entering a draft year where the strength seems to be at Edge with a deep class available, to give up significant draft capital for a player that stresses the available cap space and may make it harder to bring back some of our current young stars as they approach free agency in a couple years.

It's a pipe dream. If it was just a matter of signing an UFA, it may make sense if he was simply looking for a great fit on a team poised to contend for a Championship and was willing to save us a few bucks. But trading assets that will be needed to add cheap, young talent in the draft that keeps us competitive for a longer duration would be unwise.

Howie should, and I expect will, at least have some discussions about Garrett. IMO, though, the move that makes the most sense here is to pass on Garrett and look for cheaper contributors that will add competition in camp. Our defense was dominating this postseason without Garrett.

I'm not confident it will happen, but there was an article before the Super Bowl talking about how ahead of schedule Nakobe Dean is. He has A LONG way to go, but the recovery time is anywhere between 6-12 months. Now that's a huge disparity in recovery time and Dean isn't exactly the poster child for clean health.

I think the bigger factor in the Baun decision will be how well Oren Burks played. I don't think anyone saw him coming in and playing the way he did.

Since the week 18 Dallas game, Burks had 50 tackles, 5 TFL, 3 ff and 1 sack. Those would be season high numbers for LB the last few years.

If they think there's any chance Dean comes back in the first few weeks of the season, I can 100% see them thinking Burks and Trotter can man the ship until it's Burks and Dean.

The question I have is how much of Burks performance was facilitated by Baun being the other ILB.  It is a lot like the impact of Hurts as a runner’s impact on Saquon.

Obviously, that's where his agent should start. The reality, though, is he is a very good run blocker and an inconsistent pass blocker that should get better, but needs to prove that. We aren't talking about a current All-Pro or even a Pro Bowler.

That's why I can see him signing a 2-year deal for starter money as opposed to star money. If he demonstrates consistency, the big payday would come 3 years from now.

In any case, Gainwell is a free agent and this is a historically great RB class. Grab a guy early, keep the OL together, and we can run just as much while taking some of the touches away from Barkley.

Are there any good articles breaking down (going into) why/how this is a historically great RB class?  I’ve heard only that it is Jeanty, Jeanty, Jeanty.

Rewatching Super Bowl highlights and you can see on that 3rd and 11 play with about 40 seconds left in the 1st half Nolan Smith already has the torn tricep otherwise he probably gets at least a hit on Mahomes there.

RB early when we need DE help? Graham, Sweat gone. Who knows with Huff. Could possibly double dip. DT is also another position the Eagles will invest it as is TE. No position to draft a RB early

A Pickett trade would give us a pick to use on an RB

Shipley is legit, no need to spend on a RB early.  Keep stocking on both dline and online early in the draft, add a TE and maybe a CB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

You aren’t getting Becton again.

He’s a 6’7” 360 pound mauler with left tackle feet. There are like 3 or 4 guys in the entire NFL with his talent.

No way we should contemplate letting that guy walk because you think you can draft a guy or find a cast off.

If the doctors have concerns about his knee, then that’s something to consider. But on talent, the ability to replace a player, and how they impact the team, Becton should be our highest priority.

I’m not willing to go that far.  I have Baun as 1A and Becton as 1b

And we probably won't lose Gainwell. He is not some highly sought after free agent.  He will get a reasonable contract and stay, imo.

I agree Shipley is legit, but losing Gainwell needs to be addressed.  So drafting a legit RB from an outstanding RB class makes sense.

Time will tell whether we lose Gainwell.

Do you think we are going to get a forced turnover in 4 straight playoff games again?

Because I don’t. And that’s really what you’re paying the premium to get.

Don’t get me wrong, I want Baun back as well, but in my opinion he will likely regress to the mean on those high impact plays.

No one expects the Eagles to trade for Garrett. It isn't realistic nor will Howie give up the draft capital. Only one who's drooling over Garrett's deek is @RLC

RTK expects the Eagles to trade for Garrett … or so he says.

Doesn't makes sense for the Eagles to draft a RB until the 4th or 5th round at the earliest.  Even then probably some better areas to go.

Yeah I would say there is about a 35%-40% chance they trade for Garrett.  Makes too much sense to go get him if he is available.  Eagles are in full on win now mode as defending champions with almost their entire core locked down.  They are going to get weaker in the backend of their defense with Slay either going or staying and being a year old and even more injury prone.  The way to offset that is to get stronger on the dline.

Forget the turnovers for a second, we were the best defense in the league in pass coverage on attempts of 10 yards or less. You can’t do that without elite LB play. Baun likely can’t replicate his TO production, but his coverage skills helped put offenses in a choke hold. Everything was so hard despite short passes supposed to be easier and efficient.

You're acting like he was Shawn Andrews or Evan Mathis out there at guard.  He was good, he did his part well.  He wasn't some All Pro at guard though and he probably went out more often than any other starter on the offensive line and that's been a trend for his pro career.  Lane and Mailata both make top dollar for their position.  Dickerson was (might still be) the highest paid guard in the league.  Jurgens is going to get a new deal this summer that will likely make him a top 3-5 paid center in the league.  Becton was good but he wasn't so good to the point where they absolutely need to keep him.  You act as if we don't have the best offensive line coach in the league and consistently churn out great starters along the offensive line.

You are ignoring the fact that he had never taken a snap at any time in his career.  He was thrown into a learn on the job situation.  If you have ever been in one of those you know how challenging that can be.

The depth is incredible. There are going to be starting caliber RBs drafted on the third day.

The only thing it’s really lacking is a bunch of high end speed types who will run a 4.3 forty. But there are a ton of guys who are in the 210 to 230 pound range who can catch, block, make people miss, break tackles, etc.

Basically if you need a lead back and want to wait until outside of the top 20 picks, this is the year.

Yeah, I’m happy to sit around and take a guy like Devin Neal or Ollie Gordon on day 3.

I understand that is the way you feel, and I’m not questioning that.  What I want to do is drill down into the player specifics.

And what did that get them.  KC got a beat down.  Pittsburgh got a beat down.  Baltimore got a decisive loss.
