Don't know about that. It's not a ton of money generally, but it is for a DT who plays less than 50% of the snaps. I don't think they like Davis all that much and I could see them declining it.

I hope so

If you had a franchise that was really close to a championship (elite OL, Good D, Good WRs) but lacked a QB, Rodgers would be a good choice to push you over the edge and to win a ring.

Please give me the franchise that fits that description.

I think there's only 2 -- Vikings and Steelers.

Elite OL is the hard part. Best options off the top of my head would be Steelers or Colts.

Thanks.  @just relax and @TEW what are your thoughts about those points?

The injury issue is an honest concern.

The rest of the stuff is silly. Especially "comfortably our worst OL.” He’s arguably our best run blocker — and I would say our most important run blocker. So many of our explosive run plays are due to his ability to annihilate defenders off the LOS.

He’s one of the most unique talents in the league and he’s 25 years old. Our entire offense is built around the run. We have a top 5 OL in league history and we can afford to keep him.

Keep him.

Good. See how the draft goes first. I lean towards passing on that.

I could see the Eagles extending him if they lose Williams but extending at a team friendly number for a few years not top dollar.

Saquon killed Hard Knocks.

Davis at $13M isn't happening here. Think they get a 3rd rounder and draft his replacement in a rich DT draft. If Ojomo, a 7th rounder, is getting more snaps than you, then that's all I need to see on what Fangio really thinks. He plays his best players and expects them to be in shape to play alot. Doesn't care about pedigree. Howie salvages his value before it's nothing, like he did with trading Reagor after year 3. Getting a solid deal for Wentz before too late. And getting a 3rd rounder for Reddick. One year later they would all be worth way less or nothing. Same with Davis. He's so good at anticipating the market.

I am being patient to trust the new Howie 2.0 who builds mainly through the draft. It's a good draft class for Defensive linemen. Garrett is great and putting him on this D line with Carter will be insane.

But do they lose Baun, and with Dean coming off yet another injury what's the answer at LB? They haven't drafted a LB in the first round since the 1970s. Rarely draft in the 2nd round. He's let other good LBs walk in free agency. To your point, there's a lot of young players that will need their paydays in upcoming seasons as well. Howie is the best at the cap stuff and contract structures, and it's a good problem to have when you win a 2nd SB in 7 years.

One concern is how they try to run it back. I don't want them thinking "dream team" with going after Garrett if it disrupts team chemistry, thinking too much on going all in on a repeat and putting aside draft picks. I'm not saying I'm against trading for Garrett, but regardless of free agents I still want them drafting and developing talent the way they have the last few seasons, not like before when their defensive drafts were awful and they had to rely on free agents and trades.

There could also potentially be an issue where players see them let homegrown players walk like Sweat and Williams and trade draft assets for another team's player and then give him a huge contract.

If they do trade for him, gotta see the terms because Howie has been able to spread out draft impact in the past. When he traded up for Wentz, he spread out the impact over 3 drafts so it wasn't like one draft was depleted. Plus they have SB winning last picks of the round so not as attractive, and next year's will be later as well.

I would prefer loading up on D line in this draft to have young guys for Fangio and coaches to develop.

Literally any other year in my entire lifetime of watching football, I would have said, "Go get Myles please.  Do it NOW!"

How soon we forget, that less than 1 year ago, before the amazing draft, I still had little confidence in Howie to build out a winning defense.  Even when we won the first SB, that defense was soft, and Brady exposed the crap out of them.  Maybe we can blame the field or Gannon against the Chiefs in 2022, but that defense went limp noodle in the 2nd half, then we obviously saw what happened last season.  The way the dominos fell this year for rookies (1st time I can remember rookies being actual stars on defense), 2nd year players (Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith), and improvement from every single other defensive player on the field not named Sweat (who ironically had 2.5 sacks on the biggest stage) still blows my mind.  And because of this reason, I'd rather stick to our draft assets, and save the cap to keep this young core of freaks together for as long as possible.

Might be unpopular opinion, but I think there's a situation where Aaron Rodgers would have a productive, worthwhile 2025. That situation is not with the Giants.

His last productive and worthwhile season was 2021 with a brilliant coach and a solid organization that had custom supported him for decades. He was 38. He will be 42. He is not coachable. He wants incompetent yes men at OC. He only wants to run his system. He only wants to throw to his buddies. His current mobility makes Drew Bledsoe look like Fran Tarkenton. Now we add in his Jupiter sized personality and leadership flaws. He will spit venom about everyone in the organization on Pat McAfee.

He got 7.2 yards per target out of Garrett Wilson last year. Flacco, White, and Wilson got 7.5 out of him as a rookie.

Put him on the Vikings and you get eight games like the last two Darnold 2024 Vikings games.

Lets just say I strongly disagree with magical thinking around this sociopath has-been. Almost no one wants Russell Wilson and Wilson has been far better than Rodgers over the last 3 years. Wilson is also 37 and has been to more Super Bowls. I don't want either but I'd go Daniel Jones before a 42 year old Rodgers. Comparisons to Brady (any) and Favre (at 40) are delusional.

My wish is for the Giants to sign Rodgers and draft Mac Jones 2.0 with a loud mouth LeVar Ball level daddy. (UFL talent level Shedeur)

Yeah, we are at $60mm total for 2025. I think if he could get Sweat for a decent number he'd do it and push the $16mm down the road, but Sweat isn't going to do that.

The only one that maybe he gets done before FA starts is Baun, IMO.

For the sake of my heart... I really hope that's true.   I can deal with losing any of the other free agents, for a variety of reasons, but not Baun.   We don't have anyone ready to step in to that spot, and Dean is likely not going to be back for the start of the season.  They could go to the bargain bin again instead and bring in Baron Browning... I was really big on him back when he was at OSU.  But, that's a gamble.  We know what Baun can do in this defense.  We know what Baun can do in this locker room.  We know that he just fits perfectly here.  Adding Browning TO Baun would be my ideal choice, given Dean's injury, but they might just run it back with Oren Burks (which isn't a bad consolation prize) and maybe even Nick Morrow as a backup.  Plus they have Little Axe Man.  But... losing Baun, which moves everyone up one spot on the depth chart would be a huge blow to this team.  IMO, it hurts the locker room as well, as I think Baun was really well liked, and likely won't be a bank breaker.  $15M/year seems to be the ceiling for offers, given his 'one year wonder' status.  $10M-$12M would likely be a 'hometown discount' offer that he could take if he likes the guaranteed numbers AND he really is about the process and the production rather than the strict paycheck.    At the same time though, this is likely his one and only shot at a really big deal, so we can't blame him if he's looking to maximize his career earnings.  He's fast approaching 30 now.  Of course, I think he's more likely to see year 3 or 4 here than elsewhere if he did leave.  So maybe his total earnings would actually be here rather than elsewhere.

You hear that guys, the Rams were 1 play away from beating the Eagles.

Ojomo is next in line here. You're not paying a backup $13M or anything close to that. Not with a heavy DT draft that can cost you $1M- 1.5M to replace in a 3rd rounder. And Carter & Smith extensions most likely next offseason.

I've seen it a lot too but didn't dive into it. What one play was it?

You have to pick one of the three for both DE and DT for the Birds current roster who do you take and why?

DT

TJ Sanders
Alfred Collins
Omarr Norman-Lott

DE

Donovan Ezeiruaku
Princely Umanmielen

There are conversations every business has that look awful in retrospect.  Quite why any well run team would allow in TV cameras to the FO and then broadcast that conversation, is beyond me. No surprise teams are saying Nah Bro, to the NFL

The conversation about Barkley was awful in real time.  The right move would have been to move to youth, but the GM and HC get canned when they do that.  The fact that both remain in their positions is the really weird thing.  Letting them choose the next top 5 draft selection is malpractice.  They didn't recognize what Daniel Jones was and gave him a huge deal after the 2022 season.  They really did do the right thing letting Barkley go, but they should have looked to trade him before they lost him for nothing. They don't even get a comp pick for losing him, because they signed Drew Lock!

Their DL is legit. They literally were way too close for comfort and a Jalen Carter sack away from winning. That play had TD all over it. No lies told in that post.

well, whatever. They werent. Maybe. But maybe not.

Its not too dissimilar to how most eagles fans will say we were an alshon jeffery drop away from winning another super bowl. In reality we hadnt even reached the NFCCG yet.

If they want to put that narrative out there about the rams, who cares? We won the super bowl. The Lombardi sits in the trophy case at the Linc now. Nothing they say can take it away.

It's not "magical thinking" and it sounds like you have a personal issue with Rodgers (and Deion).

QB play across most NFL QBs is mediocre to bad. He'll never be his 2021 self again, but he can likely add value in the right situation (the part of my last post you skipped over with your misplaced rage).

One play from taking the lead maybe, but I wouldn't say winning the game. Who knows what happens if the Rams score and the Eagles still have over a minute with the ball and those field conditions.

No point in worrying about Baun now. He is going to get a bunch of 4 or 5 year offers that are really 2 year offers. (See Hargrave) The Eagles will not get close to matching the pretend total value if its 2 teams or 7. They can get far closer on guaranteed money and use incentives. You can go higher on guarantees if you already know the guy is a perfect fit.

He's going to have to decide about how much being SB winner Zach Baun in Philly for the next 40 years means compared to chasing an extra theoretical 10-15 million. He's going to have to think about what his fit would be like in these other teams with other schemes. He's going to get more endorsements and playoff money here. Those endorsements could last 30+ years.

Williams and Sweat will chase the bag. I think Baun and Becton are going to think long and hard before deciding to leave. They can still get such a big offer that they take it (See Moore taking a 99% fail rate HC job for 40-50 million).
