What a buzzkill to a Superbowl season. This team is going to be really young next season. Stripping almost half of a Superbowl starting defense. Pretty shocking! The bright side, Fangio can turn things around super fast and we are preparing ourselves to keep who we value as our core long term. These moves are not necessarily great for next year, but good for the mid and long term. When you really think about it, execept for Williams, we have lost mostly just solid older guys, but no huge pieces for the mid or long term. Howie playing the long game for sure here. Defense getting even younger now. Waiting for the other shoe to drop here still.

Stripping half the starting d? I see 3 starters leaving. Williams, burks and Rodgers were backups and rotation players. Slay doesn’t have much left in the tank. Defense will be fine

The issue with Milton Williams, and the reason to let someone else overpay him, is that it seems highly possible/likely that his success is due to playing next to Jalen Carter. And the best evidence o

Does the fact that Green rhymes with Steen mean anything?

I think it means Howie is definitely drafting Mike Green from Marshall, even if he has to trade up to do so.  The Eagles wear green so there needs to be as many guys named Green on the team as possible.

I wonder if there's a chance the Eagles don't necessarily plan to not compete in 2025, but plan it as a reset year, and jump back on the Super Bowl train in 2026.

Not saying they can't compete in 2025, they'll still have good players and can still be in the mix, but maybe internally they view this as a necessary year to take a step back to preserve their future.

Was there meaningful cap space created with this trade though?

No. It was more cash than anything.

Editing this for clarity. ... They'll save $8 million in cash this year, but around $200k against the cap. The real benefit will be in the long-term, because they take the dead money hit this season and get Gardner-Johnson's deal off the books in 2026 and beyond

He will compete with Steen I guess for RG. Downgrade no matter which way you slice it. Downgraded defense too.

Oh yeah CJGJ & Slay definitely did not get along lol

Apparently Green has played every OL position in college except center.

So im sure the eagles liked the versatility

He was touted as s really good run blocker, not sure what his run block pass block grades were last year if anybody has them.??

I dont think this automatically counts steen out as starting guard, should be an open competition for it with keegan as well, but adding Green gives the birds another OL that can play 4 positions in a pinch.

Sucks to lose CJ but im sure CJ had more to do with that than the eagles did🤷‍♂️

So do we re-sign CJGJ in 2026 for another SB run?

I don't mind that at all. More money to lockup core guys next season

This team was loaded with talent in 2024. Every reporter, analyst, and pundit said as such heading into the Super Bowl.  The cap is designed to keep that from happening, so some talent had to go.  So far we've lost two rotational DLs, a 30+ year-old CB, a decent S, and likely a talented OG.  We signed/extended our All Pros.  Our Pro Bowlers are all still here.  Graduate level roster management.

Imo comes down to they know who they are gonna have to pay and the cost of doing so. Can’t pay CJGJ and Reed if that’s the case. I think they rather pay Reed and see what brown can do in year 3.

the green part is more take a swing with stoutland’s coaching. If stoutland can make him useful and competent it’s a win in that regard. I’d argue green has played significantly worse than becton did prior to getting here

There are players like Saquon who are just incredible people and culture fits as well as great players.

There are players like CJGJ who are mentally unstable but good as mercenary football players.

I'm glad he helped the team to a couple Super Bowls. I had zero expectations of any long term commitment from him.

Yup. I think Blankenship gets extended after this. Thought he would anyways

I have got no clue on this trade. I was with Howie on letting guys walk yesterday, though I might have kept Burks at that cost. But trading CJGJ for Green, who has been legitimately terrible, makes no sense to me. Maybe Stout loved him when they scouted him, but I can't believe you needed to give up CJGJ for him. A day 3 pick should have done it. We just created a real hole in the secondary.

MB did well, though. Why trade him for a horrible G? They have other needs. Now there is a hole on the D.

Howie gets a big head sometimes.

Slay retweeting that is petty to me. Also isn't Slay with the Steelers now?

Cooper’s white ass is going to safety

Howie has something up his sleeve... not leaving the secondary like this...

I'm still completely against using the first 2 rounds on RB

It worked pretty well with Shady.  🤷‍♂️.  I don't think this is the year to do it based on Barkley's status... but next year or the year after... definitely something to consider.

Anyone think Jason Kelce had something to do with this, with all of the Swifty hate towards CJ?

I still think Becton has to tie in here somewhere. He may still be "on the table" but I'd guess Howie feels its a longshot he comes back.

We have Reed and Cine. I’m guessing they like them.
