I don’t have a problem with them trying to take a chance with him. They have Stoutland for this reason. But I hate when people are like well jets fans said Becton was awful. Becton was not remotely this awful. Becton didn’t live up to his draft position and was a bust but he was still playable when healthy. Green has been atrocious

@VaBeach_Eagle asked me to find tweets that aren't embedding. Though he may have wanted me to place them in the other thread instead of just @'ing him to the threads with tweets not embedding lol

CJGJ was always a trade off as a player. He brought trash talk and intimidation factor, but also got penalties and drew attention from refs. He made some big plays, then also gave up some big plays.

There are other players on the defense that talk trash, don't back down and intimidate the other team. Carter, Q, Baun is a leader and was trash talking guys in the mic'd up. DeJean has confidence, Reed has developed that part as well. Jalyx Hunt is a talker. There are different ways, styles and personalities that all contribute. Some are quiet and let their play do the talking.

Plus the 2023 defense lacked coaching and accountability. Fangio had these guys fired up and focused. I don't think the problem with the CJGJ trade is we'll miss him trash talking. Other guys can do that.

I worry about replacing his production. Maybe Fangio didn't like the times he gave up big plays. But they need to bring in a quality safety to replace him. Sydney Brown isn't it.

You can think of the cap as rolling from 1 year to the next and its all connected. Most GMs think like this. Some are better than others.

Paying 8m and 12m (estimates) in options to Slay and CJGJ would lose 20 million. Now the Eagles have that 20 million to use on another player over the next several years. Cam Jurgens? Jalen Carter?

Mickey Loomis is close to the worst and the Saints have been in cap hell for 8 years straight. They can not field a competitive team any longer and he just does not stop. (Just signed Chase Young so they can maybe win 7 games instead of 5 and further poisoned the caps for 2026, '27, '28, and '29) Loomis has given away better draft picks to make other teams eat salary as bonus because his cap is so awful. He loses a 3rd round pick who would be a cheap player for 4 years because he had to give a 3rd instead of a 5th to make up for the money.

Loomis is not even the worst. Joe Schoen will look at 11.5m a year vs 13m a year for Saquon and think about the cap damage and let him go. At the same time he was paying his kicker 5.5m a year. He just this week gave a mediocre 3 TDs a year 3rd WR 12m a year. He appears to only care about future caps when paying talented players.

I was shocked when looking at the Chiefs cap this year. They have done very little of the converting salaries to bonuses and pushing it forward during their SB runs. They do have 65m+ Mahomes cap hits the next 3 years. It looks like they will finally do a bunch of that convert to bonus this year since they might be about 25m over the cap right now after signing that DB. Mahomes has been a bit Brady-like in that he is making 45m a year and not asking for a raise. I think they moved some cash forward but its still 45m a year.

The Eagles have been using the salary to bonus conversions and option bonuses a lot from 2018-present. The other thing he does well is to pay his elite players early before the market explodes. All this has kept some really good players here but it gives Howie a bit less room to maneuver right now.

The worst team is Cincy who wants to make sure they pay Ja'Marr Chase 50m a year when 36m could have gotten it done last year. They are the opposite of Howie's pay players early plan.

Jerrah is right there with Mike Brown. He gave Dak full control of the Cowboys bank so he could eat like 75m dead cap without Dak or give Dak anything he wanted. Dak got 60m. Josh Allen just got 55m a year later. He's doing the same thing with Micah Parsons who might have signed for 32-34 a year any time this year. That's now 40+ after Garrett got his bag.

You don't need to think about all of this but Howie does.

Lewis Cine is the wild card here. He was a 1st round talent for a reason. He hasn't developed yet due to injuries. Maybe the Eagles saw enough from him in the limited practice reps to say, damn this guy is back. Green has been objectively bad.

The Eagles just opened the door for 2 former 1st round picks to resurrect their careers.

With that being said, WTF.

He literally never has started a game in his career. There's no chance in hell they saw him on the scout team and said "damn this guy is back".

Yeah maybe we can sign a veteran LB to come here and replace Burks....say, for 2 years, $5M, something like that.

Or perhaps for one year and $1.5 million

So there are only 10 starters on offense?

CJGJ was one of the team leaders in snaps. How is that not a core player? If not, your definition is totally arbitrary.

"it's some guys, but not some other guys"

There's obviously a difference between an every down player like CJGJ and a slot WR like Dotson.

No, most beat writers would have the headline "Howie does it again!”

They’d be stupefied that somehow a consensus top 10 talent once again landed in Howie’s lap at 32, surpassing the value of getting Carter two years prior.

Maybe some TATERs would think they’re clever thinking we should trade that player (to the cowboys of all teams!), but no one with a clue would pass on that opportunity given our roster and offensive reliance on the run game.

Running Back by committee … what a novel concept.

Yep. One of the beat writers just took the remaining guys on the roster and speculated they must like them and mentioned Cine.

Cine is not the key to anything.

Fans: Bring back CJ! He was feisty!

Howie trades CJ

Fans: CJ trash talked too much and his play wasn't good

Hmm guess we taking a safety with first pick 😂

It's not my definition, it's the team's.  Their actions tell you who they believe the core players are.

It's for the most part players they drafted and/or at premium positions.

The fact that the Eagles let him walk away in free agency in 2023 and now have traded him, tells you they don’t believe he is part of their core or leadership going forward.

Read the tea leafs.  CJGJ wasn't exactly caught off guard by this, he had a statement and everything lined up ready to go.

CJ did give a lot of TDs up in coverage that everyone complained about. But he was a leader and a gave us an edge.

Was he, though?

We know what Slay had to say about him as a 'leader'.   Nothing.  But, he glowingly talked about Blankenship.  Equally, we know that Slay (for all my personal issues with his online presence and activities there) took Mitchell and DeJean under his wing, which they said themselves about it.   And Slay was voted a team captain.   So, a documented leader of the team pointedly did not talk about CJGJ as filling a leadership void as he's leaving the secondary room.  CJGJ is now bounced with one year stays for YEARS... Saints, Eagles, Lions, Eagles and now Texans.  "Leaders" don't bounce around like that in the prime of their career.

He's outspoken.  He's brash on the field.  He's willing to talk to the media.  But, I don't think I've seen a single player from this team ever mention him as a leader.  And watching him in the mic'd up pieces over the years he's been here... his interactions don't really scream 'leader' either.   Others, on the other hand, absolutely do.  I don't think CJGJ is a leader.   He's a guy who brings an edge, certainly, but that alone doesn't equal 'leadership' to me.

Week 18 highlights when the backups started against the Giants. Sydney Brown made some plays. This is the most we have to work with watching him at safety.

I hate the trade and don't think it accomplishes anything other than creating yet another hole on the defense. That being said, considering CJGJ as a (former) core player is just downright silly even if your definition of what a core player is very liberal.

Sure, doesn't me Lord Brunson has any idea what the hell he's talking about

Texans fans had a legitimate gripe to say he was awful.

IMG_4169.jpeg

He's a first round Guard who was a legit prospect coming out of college, they kick the tires see if they can bring out the talent that made him a 1st round pick and keep him for a small salary or they cut him and lose nothing.

People acting like taking this guy in a trade means something, he's a makeweight reclamation project that Stout clearly fancies working with, if it doesn't work out we walk away, this isn't make or break for the season, nor is losing a Safety who cost us at least one game by getting his dumb ass ejected for trash talking.

But you are going to have 53 players on the roster no matter what and the salary cap will factor in the top 51. So vet minimum contracts are in a sense required to fill out that roster and guys like Trotter and Ricks are pretty much getting the minimum.

  • Rookie: $840,000
  • One year: $960,000
  • Two years: $1,030,000
  • Three years: $1,100,000
  • Four to six years: $1,170,000
  • Seven or more years: $1,255,000

Don't forget about the practice squad and how Howie like to juggle players there because it doesn't affect the cap.

Two things, (1) it is only the Top 51 until the  53 man cut down. After that it is the 53 plus the IR plus (2) I’m pretty sure the Practice Squad does count against the Cap once it is populated.

I mentioned a couple pages back. He was awful last year. Not that PFF is end all be all but they had him below 40 in his grade and he started nine games. It’s why I said if stoutland gets him to just be useful it would be a feather in his cap. Because he wasn’t just bad but awful.

Still recovering from the shoulder injury that kept him out all of 2023.  In Stout I trust.  May well be the back up C too.
