In the long run cash and cap are the same.  If you spend a lot of cash upfront it can be allocated over years in cap. Conversely the Eagles accelerating a hit and cutting/trading a guy doesn't immediately save cap only cash.  But the cash they aren't paying is ultimately a cap savings in future years.

I always view it as cap is the byproduct of cash. They will always be linked together in some way. But you can't save cash by cutting cap. Cap is all cash you already spent.

But with the way Howie has all these contracts structured with big bonuses each year, it's going to be the new norm to determine if player X is worth paying Y and the cap being Z. Just looking at AJ Brown for an example

  • 2026 Option Bonus: $27.45M
  • 2027 Option Bonus: $19.405M
  • 2028 Option Bonus: $29.36M
  • 2029 Option Bonus: $28.315M

You could say in 2026/2027 that yea, it's worth to pay that cash and incur the cap that comes with it. But in 2028/2029 if it stands as is, is that worth paying a 30+ year old WR.

Sanders' vision is bad, that's why he was only good here and why he lost the starting job in Carolina. Dude was the king of leaving meat on the bone here and without an all pro line he was garbage

Great at Penn State.  Great his tenure here.  Now he’s "bad”.  A bunch of nonsense.

He was not great here, he was good. He had over 1,000 yards ONCE. And look at him the last 2 years. He's a JAG, add him to the list of players who had great college careers and were average pros.

We still don't know the extent of his knee injury, or if he even had the surgery yet. Last we heard about his knee was on February 13 and that was he was planning on having surgery. Are they cleaning the knee out? Are they repairing a torn ligament? No one knows. He's already had 2 torn ACL's. If anyone is playing on borrowed time, I think it's Dickerson. He's a vocal leader on the OL, but CJGJ was a the vocal leader on defense.

Nothing is impossible with Howie. Nothing should surprise us with Howie.

I'm just looking at the players that MUST stay. I think the injuries Dickerson has sustained, plus his contract make him a candidate to be moved sooner than later.

Disagree. Absolutely a core piece, best LG in football, has become much more vocal now that Kelce is gone and hopefully an Eagle for life.

A couple dominoes fall with this #Eagles trade: — C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s departure creates a vacancy at safety opposite Reed Blankenship. Sydney Brown might be the in-house candidate to replace him. Lewis Cine and Tristin McCollum are other options. — Kenyon Green’s arrival suggests the Eagles are unlikely to bring free agent Mekhi Becton back at right guard. — Howie Roseman continues to emphasize the trenches.

If Sydney Brown is the plan, and maybe it won't be, I gotta call arrogance on that one. I've seen zero from him to show he can be a starting safety in the NFL. If the plan this offseason is to truly hand starting duties over to all the young backups, then it's bound to fail in some areas. I just don't think Brown is very good and Green has flat out sucked to start his career.

Brown hasn't really played very much.  He had that ACL injury.  He is a big hitter and has quickness but struggled at tackling and taking bad angles.  Those things can be worked on.  He did have a 90 something yard INT return.  He can make some plays but yes he has things to work on.

A little reset on the #Eagles and what's going on. The #Bengals Joe Burrow made some news in the offseason when he said the "#Eagles are paying everybody." That's been the perception around the league and the fan base because the organizational philosophy has been cash over cap. It's taken for granted that Jeffrey Lurie will sign off on anything and everything. Last offseason was an extremely expensive one for the #Eagles, who are No. 1 in cash spending over the last decade. The correction this year is about the future and upcoming extensions, most notably for Jalen Carter, who is almost certainly going to set the market at defensive tackle, and Cam Jurgens, who will be close to that at center. The Eagles also prioritized getting Zack Baun back and put him near the top of the off-ball LB market. The trade of C.J. Gardner-Johnson is more about cash savings ($8.5 million) than cap space. The more disciplined approach to what's coming in the near future is also the reason it may be difficult to bring Dallas Goedert back. We will see how that shakes out. The overall strategy is never just about one moment and one move.

Any possibility something else is going on or is it purely because they know they're paying future guys?

I remember during the season Bo Wulf and Berman joked about Lurie saving money to buy the Celtics after they sold the snow from the Rams game for $50 a container and Lurie apparently cancelled their annual Christmas party. Then all of a sudden word comes out about Lurie trying to buy the Celtics.

I would put the chances of Lurie trying to scale back the cash spending for that reason as not likely, but I don't know. All of this talk about saving cash and getting rid of CJGJ just to save cash and gain no cap space did bring it back to my mind. Probably nothing to it.

I really don't want to hear about cash as a fan. They just won the damn Super Bowl and had three home playoff games this year. They had to make a ton.
Plus Lurie made a Scrooge McDuck vault of coin on this team. We are now in a potential dynasty and 8 million is a problem? You're going to sacrifice what we can possibly have for some extra cash??? Wow, definitely not liking the way this reads at all.

Depending on who's left they will probably go D-line (history tells us this) in the 1st and CB in the 2nd.

There are always players that fall a little for whatever reason.  Wouldn't be surprised if someone really good falls to 32.  Kinda like Dejean last year.  He should have went higher but didnt and the Eagles pounced on him.

From 2014 to 2024, The Patriots were last in spending only $1.62B

Same time frame the Eagles were most in the NFL at $1.92B

Just putting in into perspective that Eagles spend a lot and we should be thankful they aren't the Patriots/Bengals/Cowboys of the NFL.

So did CJGJ want a new contract or do we not know yet? Some have implied it but no one has reported it definitively.

No, but a few have posted the savings here. This is 100% a move for the next wave of extensions. Don't quote me but roughly $8 million next year and the following year.

3 out of 5 years he had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.   The years he didn’t he was dealing with injuries.

And you saying he "needs an all pro”offensive line to be good is a laughable argument.  Saquon Barkley averaged 3.9 yards per carry his last season with the Giants.  In 2021 he averaged 3.7 YPC.   Are you going to say the same thing about him?

Every RB on the planet benefits from a good offensive line - among many other things like system, the type of QB, health level, etc etc.

Sanders was a very good back when he was here, in this system and behind this O-Line and he would most likely still be very good, especially as a 1-2 punch behind Barkley.

That said - we don’t need to bring him back, especially if the money isn’t right but not for any reason you mentioned.

Very grateful.  Just helped us win a SB and perhaps more to come.  We will contend again next year so very interested in the upcoming draft.  Folks on the EMB like a bunch of players so hoping we get some ballers.  Fun stuff.

Is this Howie's payback for the beer can incident? It is isn't it? Damn you Howie!

Why do a lot of fans seem so down on Sydney Brown?

Howie might have a replacement from outside the team in mind but they could also have a lot of confidence in Brown. If he’s healthy maybe he’s good?

What have you seen from him recently to be high on him?

Lots if guys are great in college so doesn't really mean much now.

Sanders got benched in Carolina because as said he has bad vision, he got away with it in philly largely due to a great O line and a running qb threat, take both those away in carolina and hes average at best.

Having said that both those still exist in philly so couldnt hurt to kick the tires on him🤷‍♂️

If Floyd got 10 then I can see Ojulari get less.  If he drops to the 6th rd comp cancel then I can see Howie do it.

The video clip made it seem like they just couldn't afford him if they extended others

In his goodbye to the team on X he was clear this wasn't his choice.

D line, CB, and RB in that order. Just my opinion. And always with BPA because I think Howie has changed his tack to go BPA rather than limit to positions where there is a need.

Traded to #Eagles this represents a fresh start for former #Texans first-round pick Kenyon Green. Texans will pay $1.5 million of Green's $2.88 million guaranteed salary for 2025, the final year of his $15.953 million rookie contract, per league sources @KPRC2

So... he's only half price?
