He overlapped with LB coach but also Vrabel seems to love his Ten guys.  Not saying he's great but a qualified body at LB

I don't think I'll ever get out of that way of thinking. RBs just aren't worth those high draft picks. Especially when we have clear needs with the 1st and 2nd round

Most RBs aren't worth it.   But, I said it back in 2018 leading up to that draft, and I'll say it again.   Sometimes there are RBs that come along that break that rule.  Barkley is such a player.   The failure of Barkley in NY had nothing to do with him.  It had to do with everything else they did.  They couldn't get OL.  They couldn't get a QB.  They couldn't get a WR.  They literally failed constantly at finding any complementary pieces to put around that stud.

After they selected Barkley at #2 in 2018... here's what they did with their top 3 round picks, often picking at the top of the round... vs. the Eagles picking in the middle to end of the rounds.
2018 - Giants - R1 - Barkley - R2 - Will Hernandez, R3 - Lorenzo Carter, BJ Hill
2018 - Eagles - R1 - N/A   R2 - Goedert.  R3 - N/A.   (Special Note: R7 - Jordan Mailata)

2019 - Giants - R1 -  Daniel Jones, Dexter Lawrence, Deandre Baker  R2 - N/A   R3 - Oshane Ximines
2019 - Eagles - R1 -  Andre Dillard   R2 - Miles Sanders, JJ Acega-Whiteside   R3 - N/A

2020 - Giants - R1 -  Andrew Thomas   R2 - Xavier McKinney  R3 - Matt Peart
2020 - Eagles - R1 -  Jalen Reagor   R2 - Jalen Hurts  R3 - Davion Taylor

2021 - Giants - R1 -  Kadarius Toney  R2 - Azeez Ojulari  R3 - Aaron Robinson
2021 - Eagles - R1 -  DeVonta Smith   R2 - Landon Dickerson   R3 - Milton Williams

2022 - Giants - R1 -  Kayvon Thibodeaux, Evan Neal  R2 - Wan'dale Robinson  R3 - Joshua Ezeudu, Cordale Flott
2022 - Eagles - R1 -  Jordan Davis  (trade for AJ Brown) R2 -  Cam Jurgens  R3 - Nakobe Dean

2023 - Giants - R1 -  Deonte Banks  R2 - John Michael Schmitz  R3 - Jalin Hyatt
2023 - Eagles - R1 -  Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith   R2 -  N/A  R3 - Tyler Steen, Sydney Brown

2024 - Giants - R1 -   Malik Nabers  R2 - Tyler Nubin  R3 - Audru Phillips
2024 - Eagles - R1 -   Quinyon Mitchell  R2 - Cooper DeJean  R3 - Jalyx Hunt

So, what's the Giants' issue?  Is it that they selected Barkley #2 in 2018, or is there problem virtually every other selection?  And remember, they were drafting ahead of the Eagles in nearly every year!  But even if not, that still only affects the Round 1 picks, not the rest.

TLDR: There are special RBs where you throw that thinking out the window... but those are exceedingly rare.

I doubt Howie signs any free agents during the period where comp picks are impacted, although he might sign a released player or two and, of course, probably some of the second tier FAs of the Eagles.  (Candidates are Gainwell, Fred Johnson, Driscoll and Becton, maybe Campbell - although I would like to see what Gray can do).  Said it last year, Eagles get Cox and Kelce off the books this year and possibly the first half of BG to go with the first half of Slay and Bradberry). We knew this was coming and Lurie and Howie were as transparent as they ever get about it.  That said, they positioned themselves for it.  Holes filled.  Frankly, I don’t think they sign CJGJ last year but for Brown’s late injury.   For years Howie has said free agency is to fill holes (not really depth) and recently stated that the young players need to play.  So having talked with Williams about an extension, he drafts Ojomo, who had equal snaps with Williams the latter half of the year.  Facing losing Maddox, Bradberry and Slay, he drafts a very green Ringo, Cooper and Q.  Having once again signed one year players at LB (White, Baun and Burks) and unsure of Dean, he adds Trot2 and given that Baun hit, extends him.  Drafted Hunt facing losing Sweat.  Heck, as the season was winding down, he added Cine, signed two blocking TEs, added Henry and Mathis at OLB.  These guys may be camp bodies but also may be potential depth players.  So basically the biggest hole is at C until Jurgens recovers from his back issue.  But no position has a player that hasn’t played.  No holes and eight draft picks.  Literally drafting for potential starters on Day 1 and 2 and replenishing the depth.

I have no idea what happened in Carolina - what I know is he was good here and would more than likely still be good here, especially as a #2 back behind Barkley.

And no, my comparison was not a "false equivalency” You guys like throwing that phrase around a lot without even knowing what it means.

It was.  Barkley was RB1 every year in NY.  Sanders got beat out by Hubbard who was WAY better than him.  Hubbard... more carries, more yards, more yards per carry.  Same OL, Same QB, Same lame offense... different results.

The following should happen.

Dotson-2

DTR- 7

Ainias Smith- 8

Johnny Wilson- 14

BVS- 42

Green- 76

More to come

In what world has Ainias Smith earned a single digit?  I like 89 on Wilson.  Great for a big WR.

Lots if guys are great in college so doesn't really mean much now.

Sanders got benched in Carolina because as said he has bad vision, he got away with it in philly largely due to a great O line and a running qb threat, take both those away in carolina and hes average at best.

Having said that both those still exist in philly so couldnt hurt to kick the tires on him🤷‍♂️

Of course it wouldn’t hurt - especially if he’s willing to come back on a "prove it” type deal.

RBs are still not worth it IMO. There are always bigger needs during the first round

Agree on both of your points. We need more WR wearing WR numbers and 89 is great for a 6-6 WR.

No, Smith hasn't earned 8, just my guess that he will want it. He was 0 in college, so close enough.

16 minutes ago, bpac55 said:

Agree, just my best guess right now. Bryce Huff doesn't deserve 0 either.

I'm going with the thought that if Smith gets in to a better number, he'll play better. The old Jerry Rice mindset of If you look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you play good.

Zero is exactly what Huff has been.

Meh.  Hubbard is a solid back and had a great season.  Pretty sure Sanders was banged up most of the season - and 55 carries is basically what a lead back gets in 2-3 games.

He played in 11 games.   And again... look at the YPC.  Night and day.   And that 3.7 ypc THIS YEAR beats his 3.3 ypc the year before... with 16 games played, 129 carries and 432 yards.

No not a false equivalency because I wasn’t comparing the players at all.

If you paid close attention to what I actually said is that "would you say that about Barkley?” Basically saying "no he wouldn’t” because Barkley is obviously a top tier back and that’s not how anyone should be grading RB’s

So no, never compared Barkley to Sanders.  Only pointed out his nonsensical thought process.

47 minutes ago, Wentz_Era said:

He was the 11th or 12th best player on D for most of the year.  If a bad play happened most of the time it was a blown coverage by him or Dean missing a tackle.  Let’s not pretend he’s an all pro…he was streaky.  When he was good, he was good.  When he was bad, he was very bad.  Once Dean figured out how to tackle, he was clearly the weakest link (relative given how good overall they were as a total unit)

Where he ranked in importance on our defense doesn't make what I said any less true

RBs, correct.  Generational talent... that's a different story.

And?  He obviously had major drop off.

He was solid here and likely still would be as a #2 back behind Barkley.  That’s all.

Agree to disagree. I'd take Allen over Barkley in that draft 10/10

You think it's coincidence CJ helped them get to the SB, Lions have a good D and almost make a SB, then helps the Eagles win one? He is the leader and guy with fire every good defense  needs. Howie didn't learn the first time and now Slay looks to be gone and BG is as well. Lot of leadership and experience you can't replace with youth.

Man, Fanatics stuff runs small. The clothes I ordered, I ordered them in sizes I normally wear and none of it fits. I gotta return all of it. Holy crap man, how tedious. And order all of it again in a bigger size.

Maybe I'll keep one of them, it's a snug fit, not unwearable, but not comfortable.

It’s called getting old and fat. Don’t blame Fanatics.

Just lay back and let it happen

Especially when you have the best running back in the NFL starting for you. ;)
