You think it's coincidence CJ helped them get to the SB, Lions have a good D and almost make a SB, then helps the Eagles win one? He is the leader and guy with fire every good defense  needs. Howie didn't learn the first time and now Slay looks to be gone and BG is as well. Lot of leadership and experience you can't replace with youth.

Yes it is mostly a coincidence because the first time the D stunk in the SB anyway and the year he was gone they had the worst DC in the NFL and the 2nd time Fangio became DC

There’s simply no way they pick 4 players in the 5th in this draft 😂

And?  He obviously had major drop off.

He was solid here and likely still would be as a #2 back behind Barkley.  That’s all.

He was solid here ONLY because of the OL.  Put him behind a mediocre OL and he's awful.  Put a better back behind that same mediocre OL and he's much better.   The comparison isn't Sanders here vs. Sanders in Carolina.  The comparison is Sanders there vs. Hubbard there.    Hubbard isn't anything special... but compared to Sanders, he is.  The Panthers brought in Sanders because they thought he was better than Hubbard (whom they'd had for 2 years prior)... and he failed miserably, because he's not that good.

He looked good here when you look at the stats, but when you look at his runs and study them... he often hit the wrong holes, went out of bounds in critical moments where he had to stay in bounds and was just not a good back.   He was a product of the OL.  Bring in a better RB for RB2... and we can only benefit from it.

It’s called getting old and fat. Don’t blame Fanatics.

Just lay back and let it happen

I’m a little over 6’0 175 and I used to be 185. Their stuff just fits poorly. I have non fanatics hoodies and shirts the same size that fit great, their stuff is Fing cheap and fits like crap. Garbage company by Michael Rubin. I even bought one of their championship pendants and it’s 50% smaller than the SB52 pendant. Feels like they’re just cutting costs. Using cheaper materials and making cheaper products.

If Howie had signed CJ to an extension: "CJ is a beast, great leader, heartbeat of the team, our D fell off a cliff without him in 2023 and in the Washington game when he got ejected, Eagle for life”

Howie trades him: "Dude was a cancer, good riddance, he got burnt too much, not worth the money, total coincidence that we sucked in 2023 without him.”

TATE’ers gotta TATE.

Agree to disagree.

He looks good against the Eagles 3rd stringers though!

(me realizing that burn makes the first two days of free agency not look that great)

Surprising stat of the day:

Deandre Hopkins has only been voted to 5 pro bowls; Keenan Allen has been voted to 6

Sure.  Going QB always trumps any other position, maybe one could make the argument on Lamar Jackson too... but the Giants had the ammunition to do what the Ravens did... and move up to get Jackson AND still get Barkley.  It would have been an easy trade for them to move up a handful of picks from #34.  But there's not another player in that draft that would be a better selection than Barkley, and an argument could be made that Barkley is still the better choice.  JMO.

Who was the best Eagles defensive player on that field 2 years ago? CJ to anyone who is honest.

Probably not, but we need depth all over the place OT, OC, RB, WR, TE, DE, DT, LB, CB, S.

It will become clearer as free agency continues, but I could see flipping one of those picks for a rookie contract with one year left on his deal.

The question I have is if we’re only saving $250k in cap money this season - why not trade him next season if the reason we’re trading him is to have $$ to sign the "younger guys” starting next season?

You're only netting $250k because his bonus allocation accelerates into this year. But if he played this year you'd have to absorb this year's salary into the cap too so when next year hits you are over 4 mil ahead of where you'd be.

Because then you have to pay him $8M this year which makes the cap hit worse trading him next year

These deals getting into Howie range.  Wonder what deal is with Asante.  He might be a guy who has to visit places to check on shoulder

Gotcha.  Still not a fan of the move considering the fact that we are built to make another strong run in 2025.

But it is what it is.  🤷🏻‍♂️

I really don't see that on happening. Samuel seems a little too good for "Sign a guy to compete with Ringo, but it's not really a competition because we want Ringo to start" type of situation. To me that screams more like Stephon Gilmore

I think it depends who is out there wk 1.  I don't think CJGJ was great but if you put someone bad out there it's a hit.  Lot of time before week 1

Yeah, I agree.  The fit isn't horrible on my tees but the fabric feels like a burlap sack.

But, my worst post Superbowl purchase from them has to be this.  Wanted a Nike dri fit to wear to the gym.  They snuck this in the section with all of this year's Superbowl gear 🤦‍♂️

Samuel doesn't tackle well (like his daddy) so I don't see it from that standpoint either but Howie loves nostalgia so you never know

He was part of a very large collective of positive additions. I am not trying to diminish the value he brought as much as I’m trying to diminish the amount of value you believe he did bring.

It’s much easier for me to believe that Fangio, their draft selections, and the development of their younger players, and the addition of Baun, had much more to do with everything coming together on D than just bringing back CJGJ.

Don’t get me wrong…, I’m not exactly ecstatic about this move either.  But I'm willing to let the entire off-season play out before I fully judge it.

I guess some fans/media didn’t like the guy and maybe he rubbed some people the wrong way.

Personally, I liked the attitude he brought to the defense.   This is a young defense and having a firecracker like that on defense does make a difference whether some want to admit it or not.  And yes, with that type of player you take the good with the bad; especially if the "good” vastly outweighs the”the bad” and for him it did, imo.

Keep in mind, having him being "that guy” on the defense also took attention away from other guys that may have received a lot more of unwanted attention during certain points throughout the season.  I think he will be a bigger loss than most around here seem to think.
