"I think they are more likely to shed more salary than acquire more salary. That’s how I feel right now. So, you’re asking if there’s a trick up their sleeve? No, again, I think they are more likely to shed – shed – more salaries, make more moves the other way, more outgoing than incoming, I think.“

FA hasn't even technically started and half the board is freaking out over every signing like that's the end of our moves.

Patience. Maybe wait until after the draft to start complaining about holes.

This is how FA is going to go for the Eagles over the next few seasons. Their FA is mostly going to be resigning their own guys and extensions. That's the path you need to take when you draft well. They are building and plugging through the draft, not FA.

That's for 2025, not 2026.

I absolutely hate trading CJGJ. I loved his playmaking ability and he wasn’t a cap liability. I just don’t get it. We were set at safety and now it’s somewhat of a question mark.

Gave up the most TDs for a safety, high missed tackle rate, not great in coverage, cap savings in 2026 and 2027, Brown and CJ are essentially the same kind of player, draft, draft, draft.

His cap hit wasn't unreasonably high in the final 2 years of his contract (2025, 2026).  2025: $3.7M, 2026: $4.7M.  2027 was a void year (as was 2028-2030).

Howie seems very intentional about managing our expectations right now considering the plea for patience and timing of Saquon’s PC. I think the Jurgens extension gets announced today.

looks like free agent salaries are starting to get to the point where Howie can maybe start targeting some folks.  that seems low for bosa.  Hopefully gain well gets something good so he can offset any free agent we bring in.

Yeah, CJ most likely requested an extension, Eagles saved $6m+ in 27 from avoiding it.

Their priority is to lock up the Georgia guys. They need future cap space to do that.

Green will take a season plus to become valuable … if he ever does become valuable.  So Steen is here for the 2025 season regardless

That's why I was arguing against the idea of trading Steen for "value." The value is in keeping him.

But it has, more than 75% of the top free agents are already in agreement with their new teams. There's not a new crop of free agents coming.

Minuscule data set.  The laws of statistics don’t support you in coming to that conclusion.

This is the 3rd Super Bowl season he has come off of.  We saw him have two of his worst offseasons following the previous two.

What players have signed right now who realistically fit this team and their needs of keeping cap space for keeping this team together?

There can be a discussion about Burks and Rodgers, but it's clear the Eagles trust their in house replacements and will use the draft to replenish the depth lost from new starters being elevated.

This is about trusting the scouts, the coaching staff and Howie to build this team in house, keep the main core of stars and upper end starters together and then letting the cycle repeat itself as young players breakout.

Not if you listen to Schefter.  🤷‍♂️

Whatever.   The league year doesn't officially start for another 3.5 hours.

No it didn't.

At what point do free agent signings not impact comp picks?

I'm on board with the youth movement as I think out current coaching staff are great teachers.  Makes sense to rely on them to take talented young guys and coach them into being top end players.  Once Stout amd Fangio retire, I think another shoe will drop and the Eagles will have to shift back to looking at FA as a way to to create a balanced roster.

I believe it's June 1st.

Yes there is. There always is. Teams still have to get under the cap and new FAs will continue to be available until after the final roster cut downs.

Good point ... hadn't thought of that.

We need a vet at DE and at safety. Hunt has shown flashes, but he's very unproven. Huff stinks. Nolan had a great season, but two of our starting defensive lineman are gone, Graham likely retires and that'll impact everyone on that front 4...and he's coming off of surgery. Not concerned about that, but worth noting.

As for safety, were an injury away from Brown - Cine/McCollum/rookie. I don't like that. We need someone with some real experience back there. Blank has been relatively healthy, but he's also never played a full season.

I said we would step back defensively and stand by it, but I still think we are going to have a good/great defense. Get a cheap DE and safety in here and get to the draft.

A youth movement doesn't spell doom, but we need a little more. Fortunately we have plenty of time

Leonard Floyd is 32 and has had over 8.5 sacks each of the last 5 years. Has been on 3 teams the last 3 years and just cut by the Niners. Why can't the guy get a steady contract with production like that? If he can still produce 8 sacks going on 33, I'm all for that kind of player rotating in. He had a 1-year $7 million with the Bills and then a 2-year $20 million with the Niners. Could he be had for the contract the Bills gave him 2 years ago?

He already went to the Falcons

The secondary definitely needs work now.  You cannot count on Brown & Ringo to start as a primary plan. That's not me panicking that's just a statement. I expect players will be added soon. And if not soon then before the season 😀

After the draft. I think it’s the first Monday or Tuesday after usually

Eh. It’s time to let the young guys eat. Ojulari for the right price would be of interest to me. You spent day two picks on guys like Ringo and Brown. Ojomo will be the new Milton Williams and you have guys like Booker and Young behind Carter/Davis/Ojomo.

It’s not even officially free agency yet. I’m expecting a Jurgens and Reed extension, along with a depth signing or two. Could even see an unforeseen trade for a veteran ala AJ Brown at some point.

There’s a lot of time left in the offseason.
