I gotta imagine Rodgers is not on enough drugs to go to the giants. At least the Steelers have weapons and a team that really needs a Qb to be good. Granted Rodgers is likely done but in his mind he likely thinks he can still be what he was

It wasn't for this year, it was for future years.  They don't need cap space for this season as they sit on their hands chasing comp picks.  They are clearing up cap space for future years for the impending Carter and Nolan extensions amd then the Quinyon and DeJean extensions after that.

they wouldn’t have traded CJGJ if it was gonna cost him a $14 million cap hit in 2025. They could trade him now, not hurt their cap in 2025 and help themselves in the future.

I don't love the idea of getting rid of a known productive commodity for a "chance to compete" guy. It would be different if it's like "We love Sydney Brown and think he can be as good as CJGJ."
