Carter and Nolan will be extension eligible after this season, and Q and Coop after 2026. Now, the way we structure contracts will keep the cap hits low in the first couple years, but that's when guys like Jalen, AJ, Smitty will see their cap numbers jump up. Howie clearly moved CJGJ to take a small hit now and add future flexibility.

Since I don't have time for numbers.....  Likelihood on using the 5th year option on Carter, Nolan and Q?   As it stands today I would say really high on all 3, which would\could push the extensions back a year for each

Another thought on the CJGJ trade. Howie is now paying an off ball LB real money, and they are going to extend Reed. I'm guessing the thought is that he's willing to pay 1 of the 2 guys at those positions real money, but the other one needs to be on a rookie/cheap deal. After 2022, we went cheap at all 4 spots (Morrow, Cunningham, Edmunds and Reed). This time we go cheap at 2 of 4, because he still views them as the least important positions.

Part of me wants it to be Steelers because it will be a trainwreck and part wants the Giants because it's such a dumb move for them

I've said it before, but Rodgers and Pickens would be so entertaining together. Just an absolute trainwreck waiting to happen 🍿

Please draft a safety and draft one early. But not too early. Those go to the DL.

I imagine we had a veteran safety but just not through the initial wave and maybe not the second wave of free agency. Maybe closer to the draft or even after the draft where a team might select a S and/or have a veteran on a reasonable contract that maybe has a year left on the deal and that’s why they are willing to move him.

I'd expect Howie to treat them like he did Smitty -- pick up the 5th year option, then add an extension after that which jacks up the AAV. So you roll the 5th year option into the extension, but the player gets cash now via a signing bonus and roster bonuses. They technically picked up Smitty's 5th year option for this year, and then gave him a 3 year extension for 2026-2028.

100% but I also think it wouldn't push back the extensions at all. They will pick up the option and extend them off it like they did with Devonta Smith. Why delay the Carter extension when it will be more the longer you wait? That's a Jerry Jones move.

Such pessimism.  Took your Negadelphian pills today huh?

I think he'll hit on the top 2, hopefully, but historically teams don't hit on every pick the way they have the last few years. Can we count on a 3rd coming in and playing like Hunt? Vic has an eye, so hopefully, but that's expecting a lot at the same time. The same way it's expecting a lot for the defense to lose 6 people including valuable backups and expect to still have the top defense. DE, S, DT, and CB are my biggest concerns. Not just with the younger guys stepping up, but not having as much depth behind them. Last year if a starter got hurt we had Rodgers and Ringo coming off the bench. Moves will still be made, but we can only talk about things as they progress.

Fingers crossed, but I think what upsets some of us the most is they finally had good LB and secondary play. They finally had that dominate defense that some of us have dreamed of since years ago. Changes had to be made like Williams and Sweat, but the rest is what's hitting us.

Can’t wait for DK metcalf walking in on his interview like Adams and the Steelers to go 8-9

I used to like him but he's become insufferable

Trade McKee, bring him in

If, and it's a big if, Lewis Cine is finally fully healthy, then we're set at safety.

One of the most encouraging things we saw last year was that the Eagles did not play people just because of draft status or FA money. Huff and White were both expecting starters but we're near non factors almost right away. Steen was replaced by Becton. Davis was limited to about 40% of defensive snaps. Both high picks.

They'll make mistakes, but with Fangio especially I at least feel confident that they'll play the best player they have at the position as opposed to shoehorning something in at least.

Well that's the part that scares me a bit, actually.  I'm guessing this was pointed out to him.  Perhaps several times.  Not every player is a good learner, no matter the ability of the coach.  Hope I'm wrong

I mean, even the worst OL coach of all time would be trying to coach that out of him. Maybe he just needs to right teacher to reach him, but the worst OL room in the league let him go for pretty cheap. Seems like they don’t see him as coachable.

Yup. Argument i made yesterday. I think they knew CJGJ was going to need an extension after this year. And Blankenship needed one as he’s a FA at the end of the year. The eagles were unlikely with guys coming up for extensions to pay both. So they had to make a decision on one. They choose Blankenship who according to Berman is beloved within the locker room and organization. Not that CJGJ wasn’t just Blankenship is the guy they felt moving forward with was best option. Add on if they give Reed the extension with CJGJ here it might cause issues where CJGJ feels under paid and starts making noise about a new deal.

credit to CJGJ his video he dropped was very professional. I was expecting it might have gone south but it didn’t. Down the road if CJGJ struggles or unfortunately gets hurt (hopefully  it doesn’t happen) and becomes available for a cheaper contract i don’t think the eagles would hesitate to bring him back. He didn’t burn that bridge and act like he did last time when he left.

I'm sure they'll add one, but to me any third wave free agent safety is a guy who likely will be not very good. Most of the veteran safeties who sign late just aren't very good and the Eagles have not had success finding safeties that way in the past.

The whole upcoming extension angle will be pretty interesting. You have Carter and Smith both eligible for extensions at the same time and then Mitchell and DeJean also at the same time. I don't think you would want to extend Carter but push Smith into the same year Mitchell/DeJean are eligible. Also DeJean doesn't have a 5th year option so you would want to extend him ASAP while on the other hand would Howie extend DeJean before Mitchell?

I'd guess Carter/Smith both get extensions at the same time next year and the following year Mitchell/DeJean both get theirs at the same time.

He came in super young and never got his foundation set.   Don't get me wrong I'm not penciling him in as a starter but I see some logic in giving Stotuland a crack at this project

Sucks. We need too much now and not enough high picks to address two d-linemen, a safety, probably a TE... I'd love one of the top two safeties but you can't pass over the d-linemen.

I think because of that IF and brown doesn’t have a lot of experience as a starter that we probably get an Anthony Harris or Edmunds type of vet to compete. I’m guessing third wave of FA or maybe a trade where the pick only conveys if he makes the roster and they can cut the guy and it costs them nothing

Stop trying to make Lewis Cine a thing

Even if they get the picks right, which isn't guaranteed, it's a lot of pressure to expect them to step in right away like Q and Coop. Last year spoiled us because many take a year or two like Dean and Smith.

I actually do like Cine, more than Brown even, but he is a complete unknown.
