That bonus is going to be paid regardless according to spotrac.

Yes, it's fully guaranteed. The question is who pays it. Spotrac just shows the scenarios under the assumption the Eagles do but under the contract notes it states it must be exercised by the start of the regular season. So if there is any truth to the reports out there that Howie is trying to trade him I would assume that it has not been exercised yet, because if it were then it wouldn't make sense.

To actually unload Huff are we going to have to give up a draft pick as well?

Probably.

Just draft well.

Green and Uche are going to suck next year.  But I’m not angry about it because I think the Eagles more or less expect them to suck and already have better options.

Bryant and Adoree Jackson are going to suck if you ask them to start, but will probably do their job admirably if they have a limited role…and that’s the plan anyway.

So I assume all of these reject additions were strategically added with contracts that will keep the eagles under some comp pick formula threshold.

The appropriate word to describe all of this is…fine.

Sorry but as much as I like Bo I call BS. How much could they have really saved on a long snapper, 500K? Not to mention it's kind of an important position.

Bo has been kind of... hinting is too strong of a word... maybe the word is suspicious about something else going on with the Eagles for a few months. It started with him half joking about the Eagles selling snow and cancelling their annual Christmas party. But on the shows this week he's been asking/wondering if something else was up because he said he expected the Eagles to lose guys and be conservative with the spending, but he said even he's been taken aback with how much they're penny pinching.

So I'm not sure if he's heard something going on or if he's just being a usual Bo wise ass. But he did say he heard that the Eagles signed Hughlett to save money rather than them liking him more as a snapper.

I don't see how they saved anything. If it was a younger guy then yeah but they replaced a 10 year vet on a league minimum deal with a 12 year vet probably also on a league minimum deal.

Yeah I just don't see a well run organization being like "Hey, we might have some bad snaps on field goals next year but if we save 300K by signing this long snapper it's worth it."

If Eagles are leaning to running more 21 personnel with BVS and Dillon, then keeping Goedert is even more less likely. Going to be TE by committee here going forward. Writing is on the wall. Barkley here, makes the TE at best a number 4 option here going forward. And you can't pay that guy top dollar.

"even more less likely" makes my head hurt.

They're probably just trying not to be **** to Lovato by saying "yeah he started to suck so we're moving on".  I don't think there much more to it.

I liked Kylen Granson coming out of the draft as a late day two/early day three pick. After signing him and Bryant on back to back days it really seems like it's just a matter of when not if Goedert is moved or released.

So, to summarize, unless a fellow gm completely loses his mind and trades for Huff, it doesn't make any sense not to keep him.

Right now Huff is their 3rd or 4th edge rusher. I would like to think and hope that they have a plan to remedy that situation but as of now they might need him to have a role.

Your best hope is to trade Huff and a 5th for a 7th. Maybe 2 5ths and someone takes a flier on paying him 16.75mm this year and seeing if he can rebound. At least it is only one year of guaranteed money.

Yes. It's play or trade. No cut.

Or a fellow GM sees an opportunity to buy a draft pick and also get a player they feel would perform better in their scheme.

Cutting him makes no sense given they owe him whether he's on the team or not.

Darren Mougey just gave Justin Fields $30M guaranteed to be a terrible QB.  Perhaps send Huff back to some familiar scenery.

Yes, obviously. But that's the answer to your question of "Why would you want to add insult (a draft pick) to injury".

It is for you who thinks big picture. But I suspect, dare I say strongly suspect, that the idea of a Maxwell redux was not on his mind when he posted that comment.

it was a get the hell out of Dodge comment in my opinion

Howie focused on putting together a preseason roster.

The other angle for Huff to consider is if he'd be a locker room problem. The Eagles love culture. If they think he'd be a problem it could change the calculus. I don't know that he would. But I know guys who cover the team said he was not happy and you could tell when interviewing him. Even during Super Bowl week. A guy his age who wants to maximize career earning potential and would have two seasons of his prime wasted on the bench to be cut in 2026, it would be costing him millions. If he's cut in 2026 after essentially being benched for two seasons then you're talking about him likely signing a one year prove it deal for like 6m next offseason. Then even if he proves himself, he'll be, what, 30?

Not saying he'll be a problem because of it, but certainly not ruling out the possibility.

I much prefer Bryant and Granson as the blocking jumbo receiver to Johnny Wilson.

Maybe they should have Johnny Wilson focus on bulking up over the next two years and train as Lane's eventually replacement since he's so good at blocking but can't catch at all.  Same height, just needs to work on putting on about 80-90 pounds.

Yep. Again, probably unlikely. But I wouldn't doubt Howie is trying like hell to get rid of that albatross of a contract.

It's a shame Browns don't have much cap space. If Andrew Berry could pull off improving his draft picks and putting Huff in a Jim Schwartz scheme where he can just line up Wide 9 and rush the passer and look more like he did on the Jets, it would be a big feather in his cap.

I'm still not even sure if he was at the parade. I haven't seen any pictures of him.

Something I never understood...Homer Simpson's muzzle. Does he have a goatee or stubble? Is that what the brown is meant to show? @e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!

I seem to recall an episode where he shaves and it’s completely yellow and then it immediately grows back brown.
