The other angle for Huff to consider is if he'd be a locker room problem. The Eagles love culture. If they think he'd be a problem it could change the calculus. I don't know that he would. But I know guys who cover the team said he was not happy and you could tell when interviewing him. Even during Super Bowl week. A guy his age who wants to maximize career earning potential and would have two seasons of his prime wasted on the bench to be cut in 2026, it would be costing him millions. If he's cut in 2026 after essentially being benched for two seasons then you're talking about him likely signing a one year prove it deal for like 6m next offseason. Then even if he proves himself, he'll be, what, 30?

Not saying he'll be a problem because of it, but certainly not ruling out the possibility.

I have a hard time believing that Huff would hold enough of an influence to be a locker room distraction.  Any player can be an a hole… But they just won a Super Bowl without his services. He was not even active. I don’t think any person in that locker room would take him seriously.

Hassan Reddick obviously had an inflated opinion of himself, and he could’ve been a distraction… He might’ve even been one of the problems in 2023.  But he at least produced for the team. He was their sack leader, and they reached a Super Bowl with him.  I can’t see Huff having any ammo in the locker room…like Reddick may have had.

I seem to recall an episode where he shaves and it’s completely yellow and then it immediately grows back brown.

You're right! Thanks

Bo has been kind of... hinting is too strong of a word... maybe the word is suspicious about something else going on with the Eagles for a few months. It started with him half joking about the Eagles selling snow and cancelling their annual Christmas party. But on the shows this week he's been asking/wondering if something else was up because he said he expected the Eagles to lose guys and be conservative with the spending, but he said even he's been taken aback with how much they're penny pinching.

So I'm not sure if he's heard something going on or if he's just being a usual Bo wise ass. But he did say he heard that the Eagles signed Hughlett to save money rather than them liking him more as a snapper.

I buy zero of that. We spend more than anyone and have monster bonuses coming up over the next 2 seasons at least

The obvious difference between now and the past is that we have drafted so well that we have a lot of players coming up we want to keep.  Howie's past strategy of borrowing from the future to excess worked really well but it doesn't project when you have all these young guys to re-sign.  It's really that simple.  Or maybe they went cheap on a long snapper because Lurie went for a Big Mac and couldn't afford to Super Size it.  You're choice of which is more likely

I don't pay much attention to Philly local media, but isn't Bo Wulf down near the bottom-tier of Philly beats?

Sorry but as much as I like Bo I call BS. How much could they have really saved on a long snapper, 500K? Not to mention it's kind of an important position.

Setting aside the BS pejorative part of your comment, the decline in the quality of Lovato snaps was definitely the driving force. Probably save some money as well.

I don’t pretend to know how the beats rank, but I would certainly put his co-host, Zach Berman, ahead of him.

Lurie did sell some of the team but they don't have a revenue issue and I don't think they have some huge debt service.

Pretty sure it’s what manu said cause i saw that same episode. He shaves and it’s yellow underneath then grows back as brown

After winning the SB Lurie probably has a Scrooge McDuck like vault of gold to swim in.

Yes, it's fully guaranteed. The question is who pays it. Spotrac just shows the scenarios under the assumption the Eagles do but under the contract notes it states it must be exercised by the start of the regular season. So if there is any truth to the reports out there that Howie is trying to trade him I would assume that it has not been exercised yet, because if it were then it wouldn't make sense.

I suspect that, even if it has been exercised by the Eagles Howie will be working into the negotiations the possibility of the trading team assuming responsibility for some of the financial obligations to puff so whether or not it’s been exercised or not now probably doesn’t make any difference in terms of what Howie is trying to accomplish

I don't see how they saved anything. If it was a younger guy then yeah but they replaced a 10 year vet on a league minimum deal with a 12 year vet probably also on a league minimum deal.

Bingo

So, to summarize, unless a fellow gm completely loses his mind and trades for Huff, it doesn't make any sense not to keep him.

That is my read on the situation

Depends on the criteria. He doesn't break news or really report. He's more of a content creator that occasionally attends press conferences.

Not sure why Jacksonville gets so much crap. I was in Florida one time in my life and passed through Jacksonville on the way to Orlando. I thought it looked like a nice chill place.

Until you have to deal with the Jaguars organization.

I never been to Jacksonville, just drove past it when I moved down.

I don't buy it either... yet. I'd put the odds of something else going on behind the scenes with ownership/money at 5% of less. However, if they end up just cutting Goedert, it'll certainly move higher than 5%. Trading him is one thing. I think that's stupid because I refuse to believe that they simply can't afford to sign Carter/Nolan/Reed/Jurgens/etc if they keep one guy on the roster. That it would derail them that much. But at least with a trade you can rationalize it by saying Goedert is unhappy, wants a new deal, we didn't want to give him one, so it was a mutual thing. But cutting him? That would objectively hurt your ability to field a team next season by hurting your cap significantly and would only save you cash.

Combining that with the CJGJ trade(which lowered their cap space and only saved them cash), only signing guys to really cheap contracts, it would have me start to wonder, I'll say that much. That would be a lot of Fing talent to jettison in one offseason. They already got rid of so many guys, is it really imperative they lose Goedert? Again, if he wants out because he's unhappy with his deal, that's another story. But cutting him makes zero sense from a football operations perspective. So if that happens, then I'm gonna start wondering if there's more to this.

Let’s resign Becton to say least keep the OL in tact. Wouldn’t be surprised to see another 1-yr deal for Maddox either. Fred Johnson also makes sense if Becton is out
