They just let Indiana tie and send it to overtime.

Agreed

Nets are so good at this. They lost.

Given our discussions about trading up or down in the upcoming Draft, the most recent Mock in The Athletic has the Eagles trading up from 32 to 24.

https://www.si.com/nfl/eagles/news/eagles-vikings-predicted-to-swing-draft-day-trade-pat3

"Trade: Vikings trade No. 24 to Eagles for No. 32, a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick. The Eagles explored multiple trade opportunities before the Vikings revealed themselves to be a reasonable bunch. That the Lions published negotiations on social media remains disappointing. What began as an exercise in market evaluation turned into a pretty fair bargain.“

Something to note…

Across Eagles history, maybe unfair but I’m going to predate Howie as GM…they’ve done better in the draft when staying put or trading up versus trading down.

When you trade down in the first 2 rounds, it means you don’t like the board.  So the player you ultimately get after trading back further…..prooooobably not a future stud.

off the top of my head:

Kevin Kolb

Marcus Smith

Trevor Laws

Steen (traded out of second into 3rd)

Goedert (there’s a hit)

2021 was sort of a special circumstance.  They got an offer they couldn’t refuse with for an extra first round pick (traded down), and then traded back up for Devonta.  That wasn’t so much a "we don’t like the board” trade down.  So I’m not counting it.

moral of the story…it’s not that they draft worse after trading down, but it does mean they aren’t happy.  So temper expectations.

I wouldn't like that.  I guess it would depend on who it was for.

They also could be happy.  For instance in a recent Mock the draft arrived at pick 32 with a board that included the Safeties Emmanwori and Starks, the LB Jihaad Campbell, the DT Walter Nolen, and two other BPA-worthy players.  With a board like that, what would you do? Yo trade down from 32 to 33 and at worst one of the four goes off the board, trading down from 33 to 34 at worst you still have two of the four, and trading down from 34 to 35 you at worst get to pick one of the four.  As it turns out, the player chosen at 32 was not one of my six, nor were the picks at 33 or 34.  So there I was at 35 with Emmanwori and Starks and Campbell and Nolen all still there. In the end I got Emmanwori at pick #40. I was very happy.

It was for the Georgia Safety Starks.

Nolen in that mock fell out of the first round. Frankly I’d have just stayed at 32 and taken him.

Tank watch

Hornets win and Nets lose.  Sixers now with 5 more wins than the Hornets and the same number of wins as the Nets.

Do you believe Nolen is a better BPA than Emmanwori, Starks, or Campbell?

Even with his injury, I'm personally still sprinting to the podium for Campbell if he is there at 32. Him next to Baun and mixing in and out of the EDGE rotation is a highlight reel of joy waiting to be binged watched next February.

Have come to terms, however, that those prospects are slim.

Watching Starks, Emmanwori, and Watts back-to-back left me with the decided preference for Watts out of those three.

— Starks would have the highest floor but lowest ceiling.  Good in run support and seems more comfortable near the LOS.

— Emmanwori is the rawest of the three.  Great physical tools, but it would be frustrating as hell watching his mistakes until he figures it out

— Watts had the best closing speed and ball skills of the three.  Looks like a guy who always seems to be in the right place to make a big play.  Those instincts are valuable in a safety, IMO.

Great descriptions.  I have not given Watts any attention so far. I will have to remedy that.  The various boards seem to consistently put him behind Emmanwori and Starks.  Why do you think that is?

Truth be known I felt like sprinting up to the podium too, but I wasn’t sure what name I would call when I got there.  I’m with you 100% on the Campbell Baun Fangio synergy and possibilities.  However, the thought of Nolen next to Carter is equally enticing.  But Emmanwori (and to a slightly lesser degree Starks) between Blankenship and DeJean is right up there too.  It was a really good dilemma to have. I hope Howie is lucky enough to have it as well.

Probably because Watts is a converted WR and they doubt he’s made the conversion completely enough yet.  I’ve only viewed highlights and would need to see all his snaps from various games to assess that — but I just don’t have the time nor inclination to do that.

You can bet the Eagles scouting staff has, however.

Trading down can also mean they are happy with multiple choices still remaining. They tend to trade up to move ahead of a team they project will take someone they really want.

In that athletic mock draft Campbell went 19th and Emmanwori went 15th so they weren’t getting either unless they traded more than they did. Which imo is unlikely. Starks they had to move up to 24th. I’d prefer to just keep those picks and go nolen if he’s falling to 32. Especially after hearing how Fran discussed him the other day and watching the highlights and scouting reports on him.

Imo if that mock plays out this way i don’t see the eagles trading up for stark or any safety. I think if stark fell to 32, they’d take him if he was best player and werent giving a nice package in a trade to move back.

Now do Ransom, Mukuba, and Bowman.

My face isn't that old.................................yet!
