Here’s a question:  when has an internal coaching promotion ever worked out in the Jeff Lurie ownership timeline?

Didn’t Duce get promoted from rb coach to oc or did he just get stuff added to his title?

Got "promoted" to assistant head coach while still RB coach, never OC though.

If you're only referring to the top 3 spots (HC, OC, DC) then none that come to mind, really.

I remember just last year when many people here figured there's no way Howie can resign both Devanta and AJ Brown long term. And it happened just like that. Do think Fangio has a major influence on who we keep on defense going forward. Keeping Baun and Williams is really no big deal here if Howie wants it to happen. It can all fit in easily. Even with Carter coming up in a year or 2. If Howie and Fangio decide Milton & Baun are a part of the core this is a done deal. Cant worry about Davis or Ojomo at this point. They may both leave but they are backups right now and we have them for 2 more years and can develop more depth by then. Also, this isn't the Norman Braman days where we don't pay top talent.

Sheet was added to his title. Dodged a bullet with that one

I think Becton is looking at a 2-year deal because teams will be wary of his injury history. Even this season he was dinged a bit. With this being his 1st season at guard, teams will view him as a risk. He's young enough to not need a long term deal right away --- if he bets on himself and wins, he could have a huge payday after 2 seasons.

If the eagles want to bring Becton back, they’ll want him locked up long term with a view towards moving him to RT. Maybe they include some escalators for the position switch, but they won’t want to deal with losing Becton, LJ, and Steen in the same offseason.

I think he get ls a longer term deal here or he’s gone.

Think I was one of few that said Devonta and AJ would both get extensions and stay here for awhile if not retire as eagles. The closer FA gets the more I think the Eagles will lose Milton

Lane isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Stupid to pay Becton tackle money when Lane is still here. Also I think they have Lane pick the future RT in the draft a year or 2 before he retires

Huff was a signing based on potential to do more than he did in NY. It was a pivot after trading Reddick. Last year Huff had 10 sacks, this year 2.5.

Compare to Josh Sweat. His career season high is 11 in 2022. Last year he had 6.5 sacks, this year 8. Huff was also one piece of many other pieces added to contribute to the overall defense. The rest of them worked out.

Your timeline is backwards.  They signed Huff BEFORE they traded Reddick, about 2 weeks ahead of time.

Right, but I think the peak payment for Williams is around 21M per year. And I think Howie is willing to pay that for a young stud defensive tackle that he drafted, who is still not 26. Now if he goes over that $21M bar somehow. Yes. I think he's gone. If 49ers can pay $21M for a 30 year old Hargrave (2 years ago) then this is a solid deal for the Eagles long term. Lock him in.

I don't think he should be held to just 2 games 🤷‍♂️

Yet people like to completely ignore all games before 2022 because he was officially the starter but isn't that picking and choosing 🤷‍♂️

12M for Milton Williams? He'd already be extended.

yeah, that seems very low.  I'm guessing $18M or more per year.  The open market raises prices, and McNeil got about $20M/year.

He responded to that post 3 hours later 🤷‍♂️

I honestly thought about letting it go but he wrote a few blocks so I felt I had to respond to it to be kind

I don’t think we need another overpaid DL (Huff). Don’t you think that Williams was the beneficiary of playing next to most violent and disruptive DT in the entire league?

Day 3 big body at guard if Becton goes. Micah Morris from Eagles South (Georgia) 6'4" 330

Maybe Hollin Pierce out of Rutgers at 6'8" 354 as a G-T depth piece as he develops?

Steen is not exactly little at 6'6" 321

Just for fun this was Xavier McKinneys expected market value

He signed for 4 years, $67M, average salary of $16.75M

Too many factors going against re-signing Williams.

Carter is a year away from getting shockingly high money. Decision time coming on Jordan Davis - no way in hell they pay 3 DTs. Ojomo is also quite good in Williams' role and has upside.

Unless Williams' market is completely flat, he's gone. Better chance Sweat is back IMO.

That's got to be an awesome feeling

@Saltpeter It's also an all-time deep draft at DT

Of course he is. But he dominates one on one. Why can't Jordan Davis be like that, next to the most disruptive DT in the league. And people are putting all their eggs in the Ojomo basket. I get it but maybe premature there. We no longer have a dominant defense and defensive line with real depth once that happens. And with possibly losing Slay, Sweat, Graham and Rodgers, we will be losing alot of depth right there. And Huff can be gone as soon as post June 1st to save some cap space going forward.

It is.  I am trying to take the full complement into the evaluation.  I put more stock in recent performances rather than the older stuff.  That's why the 2023 performance stood out to me, but the 2024 playoffs minimized the 2023 performance.   And so the poor performances of 2021 and 2023 are outweighed by 2022 and 2024 for the reasons I laid out.   Ultimately, I just want the Eagles to win.  That's all that matters to me.  So far... I'm pretty happy with the Hurts era.

The second half of my post was in reference to Singleton. Parker is great, I'd never compare him to Aaron Moorehead.

Gotcha.

Any chance they'll do what Chiefs did with Mahomes and just spread Carters contract out over many years? He'll only be 24 in April
