Lots and lots of learning is forward looking.  Learning about past history is a clear exception.

I disagree. Learn from the past.

7 strikeouts in 3 innings…. Continuing their torrid hitting from the nlds

But they scored something like 58 runs in 4 straight Spring Training games!

It finally came 😍

Nice to see the Nationals haven't caved to an ad on their sleeve.

What's up with this kid?   RAS SCORE MONSTER

6 Foot 4, 214 pounds.  Ran a 4.43 with 39.5 inch vert and 129 broad.  6.85 3 cone (12th at combine) and a 4.05 shuttle (3rd at combine)

See he had a few 100 yard games.  Might be my new favorite sleeper

Who is out there for coaches?  Would we go college rank with someone like David Carle from University of Denver?

This is EXACTLY what I am hoping for. This is a young team that is at least 2-3 years away from being legit. The last thing this team needs is a retread old school coach. They need a young coach who can grow with the players and knows how to develop young talent. Carle is the obvious choice based on his success at Denver, but if not him hopefully it's someone like him. I've heard bring up guys like Queneville, Tocchet, Sullivan, etc and that is the absolute wrong direction for this team.

Also, I am more hopeful about this team than I was 24 hours ago. This is a clear indication that Briere is now in charge where in the past it appeared like maybe Torts was. Firing Torts also made things very clear about the direction of the team moving forward. It wasn't the losing that was the issue, and it wasn't just his comments the other night (although that was a huge factor) but the constant benching of players, mind games, etc got really old. For the team to move forward they needed to get away from that and along with Briere clearly asserting himself the team can move forward.

Wondering if they're waiting until May to sign a safety to avoid comp pick issues.

Makes sense at this point. Also could be waiting to see if they get a S early in the draft. Take it for what it's worth but ESP said he heard the Eagles are extremely interested in Malaki Starks.

I’m going to say something controversial. Fred Johnson is getting overrated. The league looked at that guy and his play last year and he got close to a vet minimum contract.

It's not controversial at all. I think it's probably a result of the team winning the SB sprinkled in with a little bit of people just being negative. However, a lot of people have majorly overrated some of the fringe free agents we lost. For example, look at where Johnson, Burks, and Rodgers were a year ago.

Nobody knew who Johnson was and pretty much no team in the league wanted him. He was a nice story, but he can be replaced by Kinnard or Lamm. I would imagine there is a decent chance they draft an OT on day two or three as well.

Burks was a career backup who was horrendous in the SB filling in for Greenlaw. A lot of people thought he might not even make the team. He has a good few games and people get worked up about him leaving. I liked Trotter JR. coming out of the draft and thought he was a steal in round 5. Giving him a shot in that role in year two makes perfect sense.

As for Rodgers, I liked him and wanted to bring him back to compete with Ringo. Let's be honest though, Adore Jackson isn't that much of a downgrade from him if at all. People seem to forget that during the 50 times Slay left games with minor injuries while Rodgers was decent he got picked on here and there.

Howie has always been great at identifying cheap one year options in free agency who fit the scheme and do well like the Johnson's and Burks of the world and I am confident he will do the same in replacing them. Rodgers is a little bit different, but there are probably a handful of free agents sitting around waiting for the right offer who could replace Johnson and Burks post draft if we really needed someone.

I was going to order but it said deliver by June and I figured I'd wait until it was in stock

I realized a couple of days ago that my Fubo recorded the Telemundo broadcast of the Super Bowl, so today I've been making a video of some of the bog plays using multiple audio calls, like the 'around the world' videos we've seen in the past. The Telemundo one is the only non-English broadcast that I have, but it'll have Fox, Merrill and Mike, KC's radio, and Westwood One along with Telemundo.

Once it's made and available, I'll post it. But the NFL is likely to make it un-embeddable. I'm going to upload it to the EMB's YouTube channel, maybe it'll help us grow there.

Eagles are really pouring it on regarding the OL.  Trade for Green, sign Lamm and now Pryor while 6 of their first 11 top 30 visits are O-Linemen.

The player visits would seem to mainly indicate that Howie will be addressing the OL on Day 2, probably with their 2nd rounder. Not sure any of the OL's they've had in for a visit should warrant their first round pick. Josh Conerly is probably the closest to being late round 1 material, but I'd be pretty disappointed if he were their pick at 32.

By my count, they've had 2 player visits so far that are legit first round players: Ezeiruaku and Hairston.  Obviously they still have 19 other potential visits so we'll see.  But damn, they're hot on the OL thus far.

Lane is playing for at least 2, possibly 3 more years. I know a lot of these visits are tackles but this tells me they are more concerned about RG and their overall line depth than anything else. I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft someone who projects to tackle long term but could compete for the RG spot in the mean time. Trading for Green, signing Pryor, and all of these visits doesn't exactly seem like a big vote of confidence for Tyler Steen. I still think Steen's best position/role is as a swing tackle and 6th OL but they obviously still view him as a G despite not having the typical traits that they look for in an interior lineman.

I disagree. Learn from the past.

In Physics do we learn from the past?  In Chemistry? In Biology?  For that matter in all the experimental sciences? In computer Programming?  In reading Literature?  Or painting a picture? Or fashioning a sculpture? Or developing a new product line for your business? Or testing DNA? Or diagnosing a patient’s illness?  Lots and lots of what we do are either in the moment or forward looking.

With that said, what are the societal activities that you feel look backward to learn from the past?  Clearly the study of history fits that model.  Very very importantly getting along with one’s spouse also fits that model.

It’s a both/and situation rather than either/or.  As the Yardbirds were fond of saying, "Over, under, sideways, down (Hey!) Backwards, forwards, square, and round”

Indeed you did back in February.

To sum up:

Pryor was a Pryor Eagle and RTK had a Pryor post about bringing back Pryor.

Yes.

Newton said it best...

In other words, you don't start from scratch, even when looking forward.  You look to the past for lessons of what not to do, as much as you look for inspiration from the past.  Even in situations where things seem to be completely outside the box... they are still influenced and informed by the past.

Kepler threw out old assumptions, but still used the mathematics developed in the past to develop his planetary motion laws.  Newton used the ideas of the past to influence his work in motion, gravitation and calculus.  Einstein couldn't have developed the theory of relativity without the work of James Clerk Maxwell's work uniting electricity and magnetism.

Standing on a foundation of what is known and previously accomplished is very different than studying the past. Both happen and are even often blended. When Columbus left harbor in the Nina,Pinta, and Santa Maria he switched into forward looking mode.  All the research and preparation was done before weighing anchor.  Similarly Neil Armstrong stopped looking backward when he clambered into the capsule at Cape Canaveral. The past can be learned from, but it can’t be changed, only the future can be changed.
