Mufasa 😍

Respect to Ryans who is calling it like it is. I am really losing respect for some people, most notably Sean McDermott. Dude says "there isn't any data to back it up, but I think it's a safety concern." A. that is a moronic statement and B. He is so worried about player safety that he runs the play himself with his franchise QB. What a moron and hypocrite.

Couldn’t even say a Jordan Davis kind of NT draft?

I could have said a Donald Trump kind of NT draft.  That would have been less polarizing than saying a Jordan Davis kind of NT draft.

Nets won 🫡

Even if that were not true, it would still be hard to argue that his ~12 snaps had a major role in making this a #1 defense. Thats just not a significant amount of playing time. Hard to be worth much with that workload.

HE you have chosen ~12 purely for effect.  You know that Davis had 388 defensive snaps in 17 games ~22 not ~12.

That’s my question.  How much does Jordan Davis give you that Kenneth Grant, Cam Jackson, or Deone Walker can’t?  They’re all 340+ lbs and would prospect to be really good run stuffers at a fraction of the cost.

In other words — at this point, is Jordan Davis unique or replaceable?

Kenneth Grant is projected to go at approximately pick 20.  So the opportunity cost to select him is the Round one pick plus the resources needed to trade up 10 spots in Round 1.  Cam Jackson's profile reads "Massive nose tackle whose lack of productivity belies his potential to imprint on NFL games as a run defender. Jackson is a complete non-factor as a rusher,”  Deone Walker’s profile reads "Walker’s traits and upside could make him a more consistent NFL talent if he improves his technique and ramps up his motor.”

id love Grant, but at what cost?  Jackson and Walker are Day Three dice throws

What cost were Nolan Smith and Quinyon Mitchell?  No one expected them to be available when the Eagles got on the clock either.

FWIW — I have no issue with the Eagles picking up Davis’ 5th year option.  There is no way I’d be in favor of giving him a $20M+ AAV second contract, however.

The Flyers look reborn since booting that bum Tortorella.  Too bad he was hired in the first place; set the franchise back a few years.

If Vic Fangio thought the more Jordan Davis played the better his defense would perform, do you not think his snap count would go up instead of down?

Why did Jalen Carters snaps increase post bye which correlated with better defensive output?

The answer to those questions are pretty straightforward.  The opposing Offense calls pass plays and running plays.  There are typically many more of the former than the latter, frequently more than twice as many.  In 2024 the Eagles D faced 416 running plays and 583 passing plays. The Super Bowl proportions were 11 running plays compared to 38 passing plays.

Carter is effective in both.  Williams was more effective in passing plays. Davis was more effective in running plays.  Fangio matched skills to what type of play he expected the opponent to call.  Classic platooning.

I wouldn’t be in favor of that either.  Half that makes more sense.

Yeah. Thats not whats expected from a player who you trade up to pick 13 to acquire. The expectation is that he takes his immense physical abilities and develops as a pass rusher as well. Which is why people have reasonably stated that for where he was drafted, he can be considered disappointing.

Now this is going in circles.

No it isn’t going in circles at all.  No one has disputed that "people have reasonably stated” argument.  It is a very valid backward-looking argument … assessing past decisions.  What it is not is a forward-looking value assessment of what Davis’ "impact” ( @ToastJenkins word) was on 2024 regular season and post season games.

As I noted above the Chiefs ran 38 pass plays and ran the ball 11times, 4 of which were Mahomes scrambles on broken pass plays.  That is a 6:1 ratio.  Clearly the run defense was cooking with gas that game.

Very unlikely: only need 9 to dismiss the proposal.

eagles are one

3 coaches are recently former eagles coordinators. Would be surprised if any of their teams vote for ban

Texans GM said don’t ban it

Bucs HC said don’t ban it

I think Falcons HC said don’t ban it

Patriots HC said don’t ban it

Add Seahawks coach too. Heard him on Sirius on my way home from work saying he’s ok with it too.

On the tush push…

Philadelphia GM Howie Roseman defended the play, asking the room for the injury data showing that the concept was creating player-safety issue, then asked for the statistics that show it to be demonstrably more dangerous than a conventional quarterback sneak. NFL chief medical officer Allen Sills returned volley in saying that while there haven’t been a preponderance of injuries on the play, the league’s feeling was that when an injury does eventually happen on it, based on the players’ posture, it could be catastrophic.

I honestly hate mock drafts.....no one has any idea of trades nor who a team will draft.  The only thing you can hope and pray for is that the players your team is targeting is going to actually be a good NFL player.  In my view, either trade up for can't miss, stay where you are, or if you are truly confident....trade back, get more capital and build depth.  But this is exactly why mock drafts are an act of futility because in theory....all 32 teams will either try and move up, stay (and pick who they, not us think they should pick) and/or move back.

The draft cannot get here soon enough, and I hate that the NFL drags it out as long as they do.  In the meantime, I'll come here, watch everyone argue and wait! 🙂  Also, this is a really good article!

More nonsense.  "Nobody has gotten hurt, but somebody might get hurt, eventually....ban it!"
