I actually think some of that could potentially be explained away by Eagles playing in close games against running teams and losing two of those games.

Lafleur is a more run-centric coach in neutral situations. Atlanta was expected to hide Cousins after his miserable week 1 where he couldn’t move. We trailed NO until late. Tampa smoked us. Then we won every game the rest of the way except a game where Washington was in comeback mode the entire second half. Naturally Davis would play less when the Eagles are ahead because he isn’t a pass rusher.

Packers threw 34 times and only rushed 21 total. Falcons were a closer 50/50 split.

but even after the bye it’s not like Eagles were blowing out teams and forcing them to become one dimensional. There was a lot of close wins and a lot of games going into halftime close or trailing. It’s mostly been forgotten about but the offense was bad in the first quarter for the majority of games.

Funny enough, the two highest snap games for Davis post Bye was against the Steelers who they blew out and forced them to become one dimensional (10 total RB carries all game) and the meaningless Game 17 against the Giants.

I think Grant, specifically creeps into 1st round talk.  Jackson and Grant go mid 2nd at the latest.  So the cost is actually astronomical if you’re looking at an early pick to replace the inconsistent top 15 pick.  All in all i really like grant, but it’s hard to judge him considering the DL he played on.

If I was serious about replacing JD in this draft, I'd probably lean towards Tyliek Williams in the 2nd.  To prioritize a run stuffer in the 1st after all the disappointment surrounding JD seems odd.

At least with the Packers, part of the idea of Davis is playing in 5 man fronts vs two TE sets and the idea that the Packers would want to run the ball based on previous history. I don’t know how quickly you’d just decide to sit Davis based on the run-pass ratio, and I’m too lazy to look up if that ratio became distorted once the Eagles went ahead for good.

No it isn’t going in circles at all.  No one has disputed that "people have reasonably stated” argument.  It is a very valid backward-looking argument … assessing past decisions.  What it is not is a forward-looking value assessment of what Davis’ "impact” ( @ToastJenkins word) was on 2024 regular season and post season games.

As I noted above the Chiefs ran 38 pass plays and ran the ball 11times, 4 of which were Mahomes scrambles on broken pass plays.  That is a 6:1 ratio.  Clearly the run defense was cooking with gas that game.

The SB was over in the 1st quarter though…hard to look at the run/pass ratio with any sort of significance.

I think they pick up his option, I’m not sure how it works with the cap but if they can hold off till the draft they’ll either let him play it out or negotiate a small extension to lower the number if he wants to play ball.  Either way, if he hits FA he’s probably not going to take a ‘friendly deal’ someone will overpay him on a 2-3 year deal banking on his underwear Olympics numbers.

Long shot but not impossible.  NO's actually been winning some games here and there.  If the sixers dig deep and fully commit, it's could happen.

Pelicans shut down Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum for rest of year

The New Orleans Pelicans announced Monday that forward Zion Williamson and guard CJ McCollum will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season.

The announcement came a day after the Pelicans defeated the Charlotte Hornets 98-94 without Williamson (bone bruise in his back) and McCollum (bone bruise in his right foot) in the lineup.

Williamson's latest setback ensures the 2019 No. 1 pick will play 30 games or fewer for the fourth time in six years. The 24-year-old sustained the lower-back injury during a fall March 19 at Minnesota and sat out of New Orleans' next five games. Over his eight appearances prior to the injury, Williamson had logged his first two career triple-doubles.

New Orleans announced that Williamson's rehabilitation plan will consist of rest and treatment.

Among the NBA players who have debuted since the 1997-98 season, Williamson ranks as the only one to average at least 15 points in the paint while shooting at least 55% in each of the first five seasons he played, according to ESPN Research. But over Williamson's six seasons, he has missed more games (258) than he has played (214).

The two-time All-Star finishes the season with averages of 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists with 1.2 steals in 30 games.

McCollum, meanwhile, suffered his injury during a 40-point performance in a loss to Detroit on March 23. Like Williamson, the guard will follow a rehab program of treatment and rest, according to the team.

None of the three Pelicans who averaged at least 20 points per game -- Williamson, McCollum and Trey Murphy III (torn labrum) -- were able finish the season.

New Orleans (21-54) currently owns the fourth-worst record in the NBA and has used 41 different starting lineups in 2024-25 because of a slew of season-ending injuries to key players such as Williamson, McCollum, Murphy, Dejounte Murray and Herbert Jones.

So can we have teams vote to ban games at the meadowlands?

More injuries there than have happened on the brotherly shove.

But then in the Wildcard round against the Packers, Davis played a total of 13 snaps, the lowest out of all DT’s that played.

I won’t pretend like play calling and game flow isn't baked in there somewhat and somewhere. But when his snaps are the highest in a blowout and a meaningless game and then immediately drop to 13 in a game that matters and 17 the next week in a snow game, there’s more to it than just game situations dictating his usage.

When you see Javon Kinlaw get 3yr/$45M... it's looking pretty rough out there.

Touchback moved to the 35.  Hope Avery Williams is good.

Not a fan of that. I'd rather they move the kicker back then start drives that far up.

Or just not change it all from the beginning works too instead of all these reactionary changes every year.

This is a lie, there were not 16 teams in favor.

I don’t think anyone has come close to judging by a single moment. It’s 3 years of evidence. If someone made the argument he’s a bust because he did nothing in the 2023 playoff game and the Bucs ran for over 4 YPC, it would apply.

I guess I can see if you meant it’s a snapshot of his overall career. But even with that you can judge the player for what’s he’s done so far as long as you keep your opinions somewhat objective moving forward. New evidence can change the evaluation, for anyone or anything.

Then do we discard that Davis had two sacks in the playoffs? Single teaming him would lead to more sacks.  The impact of Davis on the OL probably benefited Williams results as much as Carter and quite possibly had a positive impact on Carter.  Carter and Davis on the field together means the other team has a Hobson’s choice on which player to double team.  It also means the ILBs tend to stay clean and are able to control there gap assignments better. That said, the comments about the quantity of snaps, when compared against Carter, Jones and the other top tier DTs is relevant.  Any extension conversation has to address that and will, should an extension be reached.  But picking up his fifth year option seems like a no brainer, considering the importance of a NT in this defense.

Yeah release the list of teams. I bet we could name them all based on the weasel-iness of the HC and/or GM.

If the tush push is to be attacked, it should be from the perspective that it’s not a football play.  Argue that it’s more rugby or something.  Pushing a player from another player isn’t football.  Not sure if I do or don’t agree, but that’s the argument to make.

Arguing that it’s unskilled or automatic is ridiculous.  Falling on a football is unskilled.  Field goals under 30 yards are automatic.  You don’t ban those things.  That’s just sour grapes.

Sorry to pull this back up a few days later but I heard someone on the radio make this point and honestly, I'm a bit embarrassed I didn't think of it earlier....

It's NOTHING like a rugby play.  In rugby the players interlock their arms to push the pile forward so they can move the ball backward to someone receiving it behind the scrum.

I'd guess

Cowboys, Commanders, Giants, Packers, Falcons, Bills, Rams, Steelers, Chiefs, 49ers all would ban. Not sure who the other 6 would be but kinda hard to determine when all those coaches/owners are trying to drum up support from their buddies.

There definitely were not 16 I don't care how many reporters report it. It had no support last year. If I remember last year it had like 4 teams I think and that's it. Zero chance they gained 12 supporters in one year when nothing tangible about the play changed. No major injuries, nothing. I don't believe 12 teams are that petty that are just butt hurt because the Eagles won the SB. Gonna declare fake news on the report of 16 teams.

Giants can’t speak on player safety with that field. Just sit in the corner and shut up when the discussion is taking place

Still freaking amazed by Bills considering how they play their QB

Not surprised by the whiny bishes 49ers

They passed a rule allowing some direct contact with a player during tampering window.  Good since it was happening anyway so why pretend it's not
