I'm not sure which guy you are referencing... but I agree on all three. lol

If they work out and we can’t afford them, then like in the Becton case, we get a one year rental and a comp pick in 2027.

Sure - I’m not sure how often you can reliably rinse and repeat from the bargain bin to push off taking a BPA edge prospect.

Howie had a great PC last night. Granted, it's sort of easy to have a great PC when it's a double victory lap, post SB win and after landing a universally popular draft pick. But a little more insight than normal.

  1. Edge is absolutely part of the discussion for Campbell...may not be where he settles in, but they are interested in tinkering there.

  2. I did not know that NFL teams share medical evals and grades with each other. Kind of makes sense.

  3. Howie acknowledged they were trying to trade up for him earlier.

Definitely. Which is why Edge is clearly on my radar regarding BPA today. Neither Uche nor Ojulari is guaranteed a roster spot in my eyes.

I really hope they come out of today with a stud Edge and/or DT. Wolf and Fran both think they trade up today.

We are on the same page.

Howie was also surprisingly unguarded in his discussion. Paraphrasing, he said when you have a BPA with a gap between him and the rest of the board, you are going to get yourself in trouble if you pay much attention to position and don't just draft that player. Not everyone does that. Even Howie hasn't always done that...although he has for a few years now.

It's amazing what he has evolved into. Again, it's easy to look composed and like you are conducting an orchestra when the media is fawning over you. But the draft used to be considered his weakness. Just fascinating to contrast what DD or Morey look like when discussing these things versus Howie.

Well, let's just remember, he signed Zach Baun to be an edge as well. lol

I trust Vic. Vic knows what he's doing. And I think the hybrid piece for Baun and Campbell is actually the preference. I think Vic wants flexibility and while he doesn't blitz often, he wants to be certain that when he does, you'll never be certain where it is coming from. So, having two ILBs that can both rush the passer is just a perfect situation. Having them be essentially mirrors of one another allows Vic the ultimate in flexibility. Nothing is tipped by the personnel package... and even the alignment might not give anything away.

Yup - given that Howie was trying to trade up with GB for Campbell, but couldn’t strike a deal… I’m thinking he has bit more trade fodder in his pocket after only having to burn an additional 5th with KC.

This is true... and a lot of folks around here have been preaching it for years. The draft is not about the current season... its always about the long-term future of the team, ESPECIALLY in the first round. In the first round you add talent that you can't find later in the draft and figure it out. When you push too hard on need and forget about BPA, that's where you end up with egg on your face in the form of Jalen Reagor, Nelson Agholor and Marcus Smith II. Or, you really step in it and trade up for a guy and massively whiff... like Jerome McDougle or Andre Dillard. Dillard's case is more along the lines of... stick to your pre-draft plan and the due diligence you've already done. Don't deviate because you think you see a bargain. They didn't do their homework on Dillard and didn't understand why he was falling. Hopefully they have done all the homework they needed to do on Campbell's health... but I think he loves football and he's gotta be stoked coming to his favorite team!

I wonder if Howie starts to dip into 2026 picks. If not, I can see them trading one more of their 2025 5th round picks. Then maybe trading back one of their 5ths to get a 6 or 7.

So, the Bears and Indy got their TEs… Goedert to SD?

This is hilarious and Giants just blew that pick.

I would… if they do a Dejean type trade up, I think mathematically there’s going to be some really intriguing guys around 40.

DT is one position that seems to be running dry at high end talent and might necessitate a trade up. Sanders, Lott-Norman, Alexander then...?

The rest of the positions still seem pretty flush, unless maybe they're in love with Taylor. EDGE and CB have good depth. Safety is a bit thin now too but I don't think they'd make a big move up for a Safety.

It was the same for Riley Leonard. Same exact segment. That's college offenses for you. This is not unusual.

Safety is loaded. Only 1 got taken and there are a bunch of good ones.

Id be ecstatic about Norman-Lott but remember the Eagles looked at mostly NT types. Lots of those guys left. Alfred Collins had a visit. Maybe a round 3 target.

What’s more hilarious is people still paying attention to Jon Gruden. Why do they have him anywhere near draft prospects?

He's the #1 Eagles fan

So... looking at how it all shook out, who were the big winners and losers last night?

For me:
BROWNS were the biggest winner of the draft, so far. They fleeced the Jags stockpiled premium picks, including the all important first round pick for 2026, and still landed the guy they wanted all along. They are sitting pretty tonight at #33 and #36. They are likely to mov back with at least one of those picks if they can secure more 2026 draft capital, IMO. I think they are stockpiling for a QB next year.

LA RAMS are also big winners, IMO. We said all along that the difference between 25 and 45 wasn't that big. And they flipped that difference into a 2026 first round pick, although it did cost them a 3rd in this year's draft to do it. But, I still think that was a brilliant move. They are in a good position for today's rounds. With 5 6th round picks in their pocket, I think they are aggressive tonight and will make a small move up in both the 2nd and 3rd round to get their preferred targets tonight.

RAVENS as usual sat patiently, and a defender that was built for their scheme landed squarely in their laps. They didn't pay anything and made a great pick. That's just what they do.

EAGLES are also big winners. Picking so late, its hard to get a true blue chip talent. I think they did, albeit slightly beaten up currently. If the shoulder checks out... this is a slam dunk getting a top 15 player at 31. And the cost of a 5th round pick when you have 3 to ensure you get the player you desperately wanted is a small price to pay. It would have been a good selection at 23... its a great selection at 31.

And the losers:
FALCONS massive overpay for a player that has question marks swirling around him. It could pay off for them, but that was a massive gamble, especially at that cost. Jalon Walker was a chalk pick though, so that mitigates the risk a bit.

But, by far the biggest loser is the JAGS. Terrible trade and a hefty price paid to NOT select a QB. That was a QB trade package and they got an above average talent at two positions. Even if he's the next Calvin Johnson (he's not), they overpaid. Even if he's the next Champ Bailey (he's not), they overpaid. And he's not the combination of Calvin Johnson and Champ Bailey. He won't be able to play both sides like he did in college at this level. His conditioning is great, but he's going to get much more beat up in the NFL on both sides of the ball.
