I understand people being upset that we didn’t run a more thorough OC search, if anything just to get an idea for potential guys you might really like for down the road.

That said, we were hosed. There wasn’t anything left for us to choose from. Everyone else would have been a big risk too. There are no good, proven playcallers to poach. Patullo hasn’t called plays, and there’s an art to sequencing plays, building layers and looks that fit hand in glove with the pass-run game. That’s the fear. Can he do it? At least he’s been in house for Hurts’ highs and lows. He’s been the passing game coordinator. He has Stout to lean on. He has a stacked offense that should be enough to prop up even an average playcaller.

I kinda like the Frazier addition. He should bring some interesting RPOs from Miami. Unfortunately a lot of that involves motion, which I’m guessing Hurts is not a fan of. Miami also did a lot of interesting things to get Achane the ball in space and Jonnu Smith as well.

No they don’t. Where do you see that?

Spotrac are the ones saying he’s a UFA

I think Darrell Bevell would make some sense given his history.

So just great. Turns out I don’t have only @HazletonEagle to thank for motivating Hurts, I also have to thank @bpac55 (and Vic Fangio) for demanding tougher, longer, harder practices from Nick.  Oh, the power of the EMB. (Of course, you - and a few other posters - deserve thanks for straightening out Howie after he picked Reagor instead of Jefferson.)

If only I could have gotten to him sooner.

Maybe it’s because I’m a fossil, but I harken back to the old days, when QBs called their own plays. Some of those guys were pretty good. Johnny U, Bart Starr, a ton of others. Then the control freaks took over. Head coaches. Offensive coordinators. Did they do a better job? I’m not sure. Andy Reid calling an infinitude of pass plays in one of the ugliest games I can remember- against Cleveland, I think. I could go on ad nauseam but I want to throw this out there. Why not have Hurts call his own plays? With a game plan, of course, still have the helmet mic, just let the reins loose a little, or a lot. He’s got all these plays in his head and he’s out there, knowing what’s happening. Is his LG hurting? What is the DE doing and can we let him get away with it? Did the CB pull something and is trying to hide it? Does the WR see a go route open off play action? Etc. Hurts already does some of that when we go no-huddle.

During the bye, the players convinced the coaches to go run heavy. The coaches said OK. That’s a step toward giving the players calls back to them.

Teams basically go into a game with maybe 10-15 plays to run most of the time. The rest are situational stuff and you can do that through the helmet. Am I nuts to think Hurts might be well prepared to call his own plays?

Artificial reef.  ;).   The Great Barrier Reef will have this one beat by a good bit.

I liked Mike LaFleur from Rams but it’s obvious they just wanted Patullo. There are a lot of constraints on the Eagles OC job with Stoutland having a lot of power and Sirriani wanting all his coaches. That said play calling is a huge ?. Some guys, most guys, aren’t good at it

Please tell me you're on another board that he's on because holy crap if they're talking about you after all this time still... it boggles the mind

That is a really well done video.  Well worth the watch.

He also does a lot of punt breakdown videos.

I'd fly up to help build the statue if Howie manages to keep Baun, Becton, and Williams

Hard to be confident about Patullo after the Brian Johnson debacle. The offense survived off pure talent alone for most of the season and then crumbled at the end

I don’t think the Shanny/McVay tree is the right fit for Hurts. That’s why I had no interest in Bobby Slowik here.

Ringo has actually performed fairly well as an outside CB.  He is a good tackler and is physical with receivers.  What experience will give him is an ability to anticipate routes and make up for some of his lack of hip flexibility.  I think he has potential to be an above average CB especially in a zone system that allows him to react to a route.

From what I’ve seen he’s too stiff to be an every day player IMO, but I’d love to be wrong.

So much of that, IMO, was Sirianni’s hubris with not changing things and instead leaning into what they already did well. Surely he learned his lesson.

Texans fans seemed to hate him

Stroud didn't look great under him either. That could have just been the sophomore slump though

That would have been fairly underwhelming as well.

I hope so because I think we're going to get a heavy dose of Nick since the OC doesn't have play calling experience

I don’t know the answer to this.  He’s more than fine with a 2 play or audible system, but he does truly seem to struggle play to play adjusting.  Increased early game success at the tail end of the season gives me hope that it’s possible, but if you asked this questions 8-10 weeks go it would have been an emphatic no.

You know... the sad part is that I can name pretty much every coach that started on Reid's staff in 1999 from memory, and tell you where they went from there and so on... meanwhile, I couldn't tell you the name of the current coaches for LB, DB, TE, RB... I just don't have the same inclination to study that stuff, and at 22... that information just stuck in my mind, and I'll likely know that information on my death bed... meanwhile, I'll likely not recognize my own face in the mirror. .  Crazy how the mind works.

LBs is Bobby King.  Longtime relationship with Vic.  DBs starts with Harper.  Hope we hang on to him.  CBs is Anderson.  Ss is Kasper.  TEs is Michaels.  Nick brought him from Indy when he came.  RB and our assistant HC (coached when Nick had Covid) is Singleton with assists from Stout and Pagnetti.  Pagnetti was Singleton’s assistant in 2023 and backed up Stout in 2024.  Can see why Moore interviewed Singleton and poached Pagnetti.

Has Moore poached Valero yet?  Brought with him to the Eagles.  Listed as an Offensive Assistant, he was a 2024 hire and spent time with Moore with the cowpads.

Real curious about Pagnetti’s replacement because he was the bench strength for the running game.  Frankly, I would like to see them hire an assistant for both Singleton and Stout.  So many receiver oriented coaches on the offensive side of the coaches.

No one in house screams QB coach. Outside for that.

It would but everyone wants a guy with experience who will never get a HC job again. He at least called plays for a rush heavy offense with a QB that has a similar skill set.

I always thought it would be Patullo anyway. I just wish they did more due diligence.

Fangio didn’t know King at all. Sirriani knew him a little. Fangio has mentioned what a great find he was

I know that’s always been the knock, but I’m saying what I’ve seen of him at the NFL level is that i don’t think he’s starter material.  He could very well be another Raul Douglas…good player, wrong system.

Having the 30th ranked defense didn't help. Lol.
