Yeah, there's a possibility Barkley gets hurt due to overuse carried over from this past season and just overall general wear and tear that comes with a career of playing his position in a violent sport. But if he does get hurt, it will have nothing to do with being on the cover of a video game. Seeing full grown adults actually believing in this type of stuff is kinda hilarious.

Once upon a time there was a very strong correlation. But, of course, correlation =/= causation.

Thanks for not saying anything in March/April.

I wonder if he had given them a heads up that this was a possibility. This isn't quite Andrew Luck's timing, but not too far off. I wonder if he heard some bad news from a doctor recently or something to precipitate this.

Sports fans are very superstitious for some reason. Never really understood it although some of them are pretty neat and funny

@NCiggles I’m waiting for your detailed evaluation with film breakdown. Have it on my desk by EOD

Yeah, he went to Clemson so he's basically the Brian Dawkins of guards. All of his video is digital. So there's no film.

He’s had a ton of injuries and his body is broken down. Doesn’t help he always played with injuries too. He supposedly had turf toe so bad that surgery isn’t going to help and he’ll have to live with it the rest of his life. Probably hurts just to walk for him.

And yet he was still arguably the best center in the league last year playing through a lot of that. Tough dude. Really sucks to see

Ouch. Since the signing was after noon, I think he should have until EOD tomorrow.

Business 101. Over-ask so they under deliver and then use that against them.

Makes Jurgens the top Center in the NFC. Glad we extended him before his agent could make that argument.

The more I look at it the more that angle is weird to me lol

Howie has gotten really good (/I'm sure a little bit lucky) at timing extensions

Yes. Part of the strategy. Likes to be early and then uses the void years / option bonuses to spread out the hit. Contracts rise across the league so in the end his deal looks reasonable and the player got paid upfront too. A Jedi Master.

Look at my response. You are living in the past.

I never would have made it as a business man!

Except when the player Huff's out. Then you lose all the efficiency and take on WAY more cap than necessary.

Works excellent for the hits, but extra painful on the misses

Better than Erik McCoy?

I saw it and you TOTALLY glossed over Barry Sanders. I guess you have no explanation for that, huh?

Gets the cover, plays 0 that year and has not seen the field since!

True. Can't hit them all. But his batting average is pretty good.

Huff doesn't fit that description though. Huff was a free agent acquistion. He wasn't 'extended early'. He was overpaid, just like pretty much all free agents who hit the market.

Are you referring to when he was on the cover of the Madden 25th anniversary edition 14 years after his retirement? lol

Why not just use an actual image of the hurdle rather than trying to recreate it in a studio? I get that they can control everything but IMO, it takes away from what it was. Guessing their are photographer owner rights and such that would have to be dealt with as well.

They'd have to pay the NFL for the rights to that photo.

Eh, the 2 biggest misses were Wentz and Huff, and he was able to get a chunk of the guaranteed money moved in both cases. The use of annual, guaranteed option bonuses as opposed to massive signing bonuses makes dumping $$ through trades possible. Dak's contract is $240mm, and $80mm was a singing bonus (25%). Jalen's singing bonus was under $24mm on $255mm, or less than 10%. So we can trade Jalen and get someone to pick up his unpaid guarantees (like we did with Wentz), and that never hits our cap.
