There are quite a number of good cooks in the blog and even more with educated palates, and a few who raise their own veggies, mints, peppers, and herbs. We live in a fifth floor apartment with a balcony and have our little herb garden: parsley, mint, rosemary, basil, thyme, and tarragon. The blog’s best farmer seems to be @BigEFly who probably keeps his own civets for the world’s most expensive coffee.

No coffee for me. I try to avoid caffeine although a small dark chocolate with a cab on occasion.

The heat wave has caused my oregano, parsley, dill, cilantro and even one of my tarragons to go to seed. Ed’s catnip too. Surprised my basil didn’t. New seeds in yesterday.

I cut back on the garden this year a bit. Tomatoes are producing but not a lot. My tomatillos came in late and small last year so I sacrificed them to the garden and like my tomatoes they come up on their own. I will have salsa verde canned this year. Both are already flowering. Zucchini doing well. My peppers are growing fast. Already flowers on the jalapeños and poblanos. Guajillos doing well as are my chiles (Hatch and Anaheim) I have red, yellow and orange bells growing well as are the serranos. Chile de arbol, still small. Cayenne doing well. Asparagus arguably done for the year. Those damn rabbits got most of my curled kale earlier but are leaving my other kale, lettuces and spinach alone. My cucumbers are flowering and climbing. Should have garden salads sometime in the next week or two. No root vegetables for me this year and I have decided that broccoli, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts are just not worth the space or effort. I didn’t plant beans or limas this year either. @Iggles_Phan is quite the gardener. Me, I am a poor imitation of my mom.

Anyone try clumping cat litter pee around a garden to control rabbits? Wife is mad I am trying to convince Ed to hunt them. I am tempted to grab my dad’s squirrel gun (a BB gun pistol) and shoot at them. (My dad was a hell of a shot and used it for squirrels in his pecan with poor results as they just waited for him to leave).

I ate my first garden fresh Cherokee Purple tomato this evening. First time I've been able to have one before the month of July.

Everything is flowering and seeding early from that heat wave. Got my first Romano last week. Good to hear you got a garden in this year.

It's an issue that's been building for the almost 30 years this league has existed. People forget that there were initially 2 women's' pro leagues that started at the same time -- the WNBA, owned and backed by the NBA, and the ABL, an independent league. While the ABL played in arenas they could actually fill, the WNBA players were put in NBA stadiums. The ABL actually was trying to build an audience while also being profitable, but they couldn't compete with an organization that could lose money hand over fist because it was funded by the NBA. And that's where the ridiculous sense of entitlement started -- WNBA players weren't interested in grinding and building a league, they wanted to be superstars and big time right away.

It's why now you have morons scream that female players should get paid as much as the men (be it in basketball, soccer, etc.) despite the fact they generate a tiny fraction of the revenue and lose money still. We've created this sense of entitlement among the players that they should be treated like superstar athletes despite being unprofitable, and we've spent 30 years coddling this illusion. So they're all now upset that only one person (a white, heterosexual) is making real money because they've never been exposed to market forces -- they think they should all get Caitlin Clark money because otherwise it's unfair.

Basically, we did this by coddling their delusions for 3 decades.

I don't watch the sport but this post reminded me of Bill Burs comment about the WNBA

This will sound weird but I have a friend who put a number of small mirrors about his garden and it apparently freaked the rabbits out and they stopped coming.

I use soy sauce in so much, but I was referring to with mushrooms. Love the flavors combined.

I'm a mediocre gardener (although I always have lots of herbs) but I do love to cook. Redoing the whole kitchen currently and I'm finally going to get a good oven/stovetop. Can't wait.

My sister bought this tower to try to keep deer from her herbs. She never got a chance to plant it. I brought it home and have herbs in it. This past winter, I hooked it to my dolly and moved it in and out of the garage as per the outside temperature. I had parsley, rosemary, oregano, marjoram, chives and thyme all year. My cilantro and dill made it to almost February and my tarragon finally went dormant in February but was back by April. (That’s the tarragon that just went to seed. My indoor cilantro and dill couldn’t get enough sunlight but the tarragon and chives made it through the winter as did my basil.

I may try that. Just my luck those friggin pests will be vain and seek out the mirrors and grab a bite while they are there.

I spent 2 weeks in Chicago and just got back this weekend. So, this morning was spent tying up the zucchini, squash and cucumbers. Harvested a bunch of cucumbers already. I started them early, just like the tomatoes. I figured, I could start some early and take my chances and have some others to start later if the early ones got zapped by a cold spell. The gamble paid off handsomely.

Sadly, looking at my tomatoes, that heat wave killed a bunch of the blossoms on the Cherokees. They don't like extended weather over 90. Kills the pollen. I have a bunch of peppers coming on, but none ripening yet. The lettuce was doing so nicely this spring (I always over plant that... ) and I was getting a beautiful bunch of harvests, but when I came home, they are all bolted now.

I tried something different this year. Instead of starting plants inside, I planted seeds directly and bought a few starter plants. Worked well for my peppers and zucchini but my cucumbers are just now blossoming. Think the only thing that saved my tomato blossoms is that my neighbor’s maple gives my vegetable garden shade from about 1:30-4 this time of year. I have some baby peppers but figure I am at least a couple of weeks from harvesting.

Their revenue has doubled over the past 5 years. They're trying to capitalize on that and expand the market. I'm not gonna watch but I get it from a business POV 🤷

I mean doubling negative revenue is progress guess? Instead of losing $20mil per year maybe they'll only lose $10mil. Then they'll add this expansion team and start losing $15mil. I'm happy for them but that league is probably the most useless and costly league in the country

Its more effective if you add an outdoor projector with this movie playing on loop in addition to the mirrors.

Another issue that the WNBA seems to have is they don't know how to take typical sports fandom which includes both positive and negative actions.

WNBA fan waits outside for a star players autograph and she chastises him. Lady, you're lucky you have fans that want your autographs. If that was an NBA team, there would be a sidewalk full of fans fighthing to get an autograph or picture. Do you want to be celebrities and paid like men or not? If you can't deal with this then shut up.

On the flip side, everytime fans are upset wtih a performance, criticize you, boo you or talk trash to you...it's not because you're a woman, and it has nothing to do with the color of your skin. It's because sports fans talk trash, it's what they do. Unti they can separate their feelings from sports fans acting like they do (and yes, there are lots of idiot fans out there), they will never make their fan base grow.

What a creepy response

What world are you living in? Women are jealous as hell over each other. You think it's coincidence how they are treating Clark? They don't like her getting all the attention.

It's the absolute weirdest thing. They despise her.

I saw a sarcastic comment online that basically said, what do you expect from a bunch of jealous lesbians? Harsh, but funny.,

More seriously. Clark took the spotlight off of other players with all the buzz she got from college and it has hurt a lot egos for different reasons. Especially those who presumed they were the Queen of the Land and a more swashbuckling knight from another realm arrived and showed they are in fact nothing special. Its burns their souls that they aren't the reason viewing figures & attendances went up

Not really my experience but hey do you buddy.

Have you seen some of the highlights? Some games it looks like they’re trying to injure her.

I know nothing of what's going on in the WNBA outside of this video that randomly popped up in my YouTube feed, and due to my being high that night, decided to watch it and immediately double over in laughter, having to pause the video a few times before I got through it. I know it's 6 minutes, but it's so well done and instantly made me a fan of this guy's work.

I never make a wine sauce for boneless, skinless (tasteless) chicken breasts without ‘shrooms (drug addled days of my youth) as they hold the wine taste so well.

Likewise, marsala pan sauce with cremini mushrooms for filets. Finish with a couple pats of butter if you want a creamier, richer sauce to replace the fat that should've been in the steak to begin with.

So Goedert can be on the move afterall. Goedert for Tyreke Hill I guess.

Jalen and Goedert for Tua and Waddle.

Tua is a strong breeze away from lobotomy status at this point.

If this AI lady existed, the philly WNBA team would be champions immediately. I see some mascot/uniform ideas online and some are decent.

And I have already paid more attention to the WNBA team that doesnt exist yet than I ever will to the stupid hockey team.

Lol you don't know women for crap then. If you need an example it's Clark. They can be super kind and supportive until one is prettier or getting more attention from guys or getting the spotlight, etc.
