From Freakbeasts list (thinking about the Nick/Toledo relationship and the fact there are four Toledo players current on the 90 man roster)

26. Toledo TE C.C. Ezirim

My favorite genre on this list is the small-school athletes that I might not have known before the season if not for Bruce’s reporting. Ezirim is a specimen, 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds, and can hit 22 mph on the radar gun. If he has a big season, expect every NFL scout to drool uncontrollably.

I went back and looked at some of Bruce’s Freaks lists from the last few years, which unearthed some other great small-school players: Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen (UTSA, 2021 list), Bengals WR Andrei Iosivas (Princeton, 2022 list) and Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo, 2023 list).

Just a musing. Last year Booker was the backup NT. This could mean that the Eagles are impresssed with the slimmed down version of Davis. Maybe we should watch to see how Joe Evans does in the PS game on Thursday.

Fran Duffy is underwhelmed by the trade. Thinks Bennett is C4/5. Called him a smaller Ringo.

I don't think you trade a quality player like Booker for a dart throw CB4. And sometimes it seems Fran holds onto his college scouting reports for dear life.

Fran definitely tossed a bucket of cold water on any excitement of him being a good CB2. However I appreciate his honest and forthcoming breakdown and opinion and not giving an Eagle homeristic positive spin. Hopefully Fran can watch and then give a breakdown on his Raider tape and see if it matches up or if he improved.

Separately, I do hope Howie and company went over this move, in depth, with Vic prior.

I am somewhat surprised this is the second move we made at outside corner that doesn't play the run well, Adoree being the first, as I always thought that was what Vic prefers. Now I can't wait to hear Vic's next presser.

Vic's pressers were a bit eye brow raising when it came to CB2. Overall I like targeting a potential starter at CB2 without having to give up any draft capital, we can use that for a bigger splash at edge.

If none of these corners show out and firmly grasp CB2 however it will have to be revisited again towards the end of camp.

We see beat writers tweet the splash plays and then they/we draw conclusions on who is and isn't having a good camp. But as Vic pointed out yesterday, these guys are also making mistakes. Maybe Ringo was too handsy on a route that he ends up intercepting. Maybe Ricks is out of position several snaps where the ball doesn't go his way. Vic talked about DeJean solving a coverage problem at safety they had last year. Never saw a tweet about that. We are drawing conclusions with incomplete information. (At least until the next Fangio presser.)

I like the move. Trade our #5 DT for help at a position of uncertainty.

I think it's pretty clear neither guy is playing well at CB #2. We don't really hear much about safety because Mukaba's been hurt. Not sure what to make of it

They’re trying to attract non-sports viewers. Same reason Super Bowl halftime shows are typically not catered towards middle-aged men.

Stop gendering what entertains me.

A player for player trade at this time of the year and works for me. Don't immediately hate or love it, but if it helps depth, right on

So a guy is giving his breakdown off his college tape but he has been in the league for 2 years and 800 defensive snaps. That is just stupid

Is it? Vic alluded to the Beats not seeing everything. He and Parker expect discipline in the backfield. His comment about Coop at S, suggests that the CJGJ trade may have incorporated some of Vic’s feelings about his lack of discipline. Got to wonder if his comments about Jackson in the presser last week wasn’t positive. We don’t hear much about S because the Beats see it as a when does Mukuba get the job. Not convinced Mukuba is going to beat out Brown, at least for a while. I suspect that of the CBs. It named Q and Coop, that Ringo plays the run best.

We keep saying this is about Ringo.. My guess this is more about Adoree who will be let go.

It's about both. They are in a competition. If one of them was looking good to the Eagles then they would simply win the competition. Since both aren't looking good enough they now beung in another person to enter that competition.

I think this is probably an endorsement of Gabe Hall. If they go with 5 DT's, it will be: Carter, Davis, Ojomo, Robinson and Hall.

One nice thing about Booker was his versatility. Given our possible lack of edge depth, Booker could have given some DE snaps. Not OLB edge, but he could play end like Graham or Sweat sometimes did.

Robinson can do that. Hall, I thought was really just a NT.

I think mostly this is a sign that Robinson is looking good, which meant Booker was expendable and now has a chance to play somewhere else.

The flaw is the opening at starting outside corner. And it wasn't just the starting roster being discussed. I also talked about depth at various positions which you refuted any need for.

Well over half of the NFL’s teams would be very happy to have our outside corner situation. It is not a flaw. It is a work in progress.

Regarding depth, what the trade contained was our 5th or 6th DT, who wasn’t likely to be active on game day … if he even made the roster. Sliding Gabe Hall or Byron Young into that 5th DT slot is just as good depth as Booker in that slot. Depth is preserved. In exchange we got a dice throw addition to Cornerback … a possible contribution to the work in progress. Depth may or may not have been affected. Only time will tell what number the dice roll produced.

Howie and the coaching staff have a plan, and they are executing that plan. Your wet drawers are inconsequential to them.

And for all we know Booker wasn’t even #5 but rather behind Young and/or Hall.

If Ringo were playing well logic says he'd the starter in every practice. Howie has long had a crush on Adore but Vic obviously doesn't.

That was my read as well. However, a bit like AJ he does appear to have good late hands. If those hands are on the ball rather than on the receiver before the ball gets there he will get the benefit of the doubt more often than not.

In Fangio we trust.

I hate, hate, hate CBs not locating the ball in the air. But its so prevalent in the game today. And Bennett looks great at playing the WRs hands right when the ball arrived.

The way Vic handles trading camp appears to be challenging all the players with situations where they have the opportunity to get better. Whether it is Q being moved from side to side or DeJean taking reps in various positions or the CB2 combatants dealing with the challenges they face, Vic has a plan, and we can only speculate what is going on inside his head, but I am sure the players know.

Logic says nothing of the kind. You don't just rep your starters; you rep everybody. That's how you build depth.

I agree either way both parts of your assessment. Well said.

I don't agree. He has late hands, as @HazletonEagle commented. Unlike Ringo, he doesn't run through the receiver. He's not grabby. He has a hand on the receiver's hip - something you have commented on that Ringo doesn't seem to have, um, grasped without holding. And he can really run. Hard to tell from those clips how fluid his hips are but he certainly charts well as a zone CB.

Zangaro: Nick Sirianni says the trade to acquire Jakorian Bennett was a way to add depth at CB. They liked him coming out of Maryland and have liked his play with the Raiders.

Sirianni said no decision on if starters will play Thursday.

Bengals starters are playing though.
