Well Sanders is garbage, so there’s that…

By all accounts he has looked great in camp.

If it's for $40m a year and a big bag guaranteed, then they are probably good to go.

But to the surprise of no one, it will come out that Jerry thinks his offer of less than $40m a year and no guarantee on a handshake was a done deal.

At this point I’m finding a lot of amusement in the whole situation. Jerry’s doing Jerry things and confirming for everyone what a buffoon he has become. Micah is somewhat becoming a distraction himself. He’s under contract, just play it out and go to free agency. It’s really simple, talking about wanting to go to Pittsburg in a trade…that ain’t happening. Jerry has him under control until he fulfills his contract. At this point point Jerry feels spurned and isn’t going to give in.

It’s just attention and at Jerry’s age he dgaf about anybody but himself.

I wouldn't cut Jackson, he can still play. He's a solid cover corner. At the very least he will be stable depth, which teams don't always have.

Ricks didn't sniff the field last year and despite no one stepping up this year he hasn't gotten a look with the 1's. Seems like Fangio isn't a fan to me. Similarly Ringo didn't get PT last year and he isn't grabbing hold of the starter reps. I don't think Ricks will be on the team and I don't think Ringo will be the starter

Ringo had 452 snaps last season, albeit 300+ were STs. Lest we forget, he had Slay and Mitchell ahead of him.

Is there ever going to be situation where they're using smelling salts and the person isn't going directly into concussion protocol?

Kittle said he uses them before every single drive.

Ritchie on the radio said players use them all the time in the locker room before games or at halftime.

I'd much rather keep Ricks than Jackson.

Totally logical to set Sanders up to fail.

You know, if he's actually the best QB on the roster, the coaches are totally incentivized to "set him up to fail".

Pickett should be the starter there with Flacco as QB2 for insurance -- but the Browns will do the Browns thing. I thought Gabriel's college tape was very 'meh'; he just doesn't have the physical tools to be a good NFL starter. Sanders is a "poor man's" Bryce Young, which is not good at all. Doesn't have any elite traits like size, arm, speed, anticipation. Really not sure why the Browns drafted either QB, and drafting Sanders after already taking Gabriel was just wasting a pick.

I suspect Gabriel gets cut on cutdown day. Sanders may sneak onto the roster as QB3 but I can't imagine any team picking him up on waivers, so the Browns should just cut both of them and bring them back onto their practice roster unless they falter in training camp.

Smelling salts are some strong crap

I just don't see Fangio having trust in Sydney Brown at all. The kid barely got on the field in a meaningful down last year, played one game where he had more than 10 snaps, and took a total of 6 snaps in the playoffs. I don't think he fits Fangio's style.

I really think they are going to have DeJean playing a lot of safety early on the season.

With Brown its not about fitting style. He just doesnt have great football IQ, He is from Canada and had a later than typical start in football.

And he doesnt tackle well enough.

Im not sure which is the bigger pet peeve for Fangio, but both are tough for players to overcome.

I still think that if he can improve ONE of those areas he can be a star. But his time is probably running out in Philly. If he cant make a leap this year thats probably it.

I hope Cooper and Cooks show out in preseason and make the team over Smith and Wilson. Those guys can't play.

Trouble is, Micah knows playing out this season won't get him to FA and out of that dumpster fire of an organization. Jerrah will just franchise tag him... likely twice, just as he did with Dak. That puts him in Dallas for 3 more seasons, not just 1.

I did not mean to be insulting. Think of DeJean’s two big splash plays - running down Chase in motion to his left and his tackle of Henry to his right. Those were plays a great safety makes. He’s damn good in coverage but Mitchell is better but Mitchell is a sticky defender, not a read and react run support guy, although he’s good at those things. Slot corner is something of a hybrid safety. DeJean has shown he can play it but I think he’s shown he can do more. The only thing that will keep him from full time safety is if we don’t have another guy who can play slot corner. If that’s the case, we’re in full agreement.

Nickel is best with CB cover skills at mirroring and safety instincts. DeJean does both well. So he affords Fangio/Parker options. He’s perfect for down safety but fast enough and just big enough to take on some traditional strong safety roles at time. Now add to that some OLBs that can actually drop well in coverage and two ILBs that can cover (Baun and Campbell with backups Trot2 and Mondon) and I think we will see a transition of the disguises on coverage. In the nickel we will see some inside shifts that are more stunts than blitzes. I don’t see your discussion with @HazletonEagle as a disagreement but rather as an interpretation. This isn’t a traditional 3/4 or even 4/3. About the only thing traditional is that in base it looks like a 3/4 and in nickel it looks like a 4/3 but in reality there isn’t a clear indication of where the defensive players are going. I have heard Vic say over and over that the players need to excel at determining if it is a run or pass. It is also why Reddick is gone and Huff couldn’t sniff the field.

I tend to agree with HE that Coop plays that nickel/safety position so well. The Eagles nickel is really a kind of three S look but Coop is the hybrid nickel, which means he could be positioned to really strengthen the disguises. I also think that is why when Vic talks about ironing out the misses by Brown, Mukuba and McCollum, he’s mostly talking about missed reads which tend to start is misreading whether it is a run or pass and making the right corresponding positioning.

Ironically a lot of early round QBs are in fact set up to fail, because they are drafted by trash organizations, with trash rosters and are viewed as the savior to fix all the woes of the franchise. David Carr never really had a chance. Along with many many others.
