That decision to throw has to be very quick otherwise you end up with that downfield call since they started enforcing it regularly. It’s also different from college to pro, college get more room for the OL whereas in the NFL they get a yard if I’m not mistaken. They get a yard... but can get further as long as they are continually engaged in a block. If they are continually engaged in a block, they can be as far downfield as they can sustain. Recently Steen was called on a situation where he was 3 yards down field, but would have been legal, except the LB worked free of the block... and then he was standing around doing nothing, 3 yards downfield. Which is sort of a weird way to have the penalty work.

The SB, from a toughness of throws standpoint, he was pretty close to perfect (thanks Alshon for messing that up). While Tom Brady was throwing to wide open targets, Foles was constantly threading needles and dropping dimes.

Ironically, just saw Woolen in the 10 players to watch at the trade deadline article on The Athletic, and this caught me eye. Seems like we already had the solution to this problem, but here we are.Riq Woolen, CB, Seattle SeahawksWoolen hasn’t performed at the same level as he did during his first three NFL seasons, and the Seahawks have plenty of talented defensive backs in Shaquille Griffin, Josh Jobe, Devon Witherspoon (when healthy) and Derion Kendrick. There are teams like the Lions, Eagles and Buffalo Bills that are hurting for playmakers at the cornerback position. Perhaps a change of scenery could do Woolen some good.

The point I was trying to make is that the longer it takes to make the read the more opportunities for that to happen. That read has to be very quick or you risk a penalty. I personally am not a huge fan of the RPO, at any level, but especially in the NFL.
