The fact that the OC doesn't recognize what the defense is doing against under center formations is an issue. Maybe if they call this play out of the gate or just more traditional passes from under center defenses don't walk up the safety .

I wouldn't be surprised if the awful 2x2 plays were designed to be "out of structure" Let Hurts start to move and see if anyone can lose their man for a big play. Otherwise what even looks good about the play, it's just a waste

What was the route AJ was supposed to be running? It looks like an out route. It's not a curl because he turns outside and not inside. It almost looks like it was supposed to be a dig route but he looks like he was just trying to box out the defender. My thought is the first read was to Goedert and then Barkley in the flat. AJ and Hurts turned it into something it was not designed to be.

Looks to me like he motioned to be the lead blocker for a Saquon screen but Barkley stays in for a moment to block a potential blitz then just jogs to the flat. Looks like it was supposed to be the 2nd option.

I know Defense gave up a lot of yards yesterday. But they did a phenomenal job in the Redzone and got the Pick 6 and another INT.

Yup going back and looking looks like both AJ and Smitty are running outs, really slow sloppy ones🤷‍♂️

The defense is only going to get better with guys getting healthy, Fangio reviewing what's working and not and making adjustments, rookies getting more experience. They have to figure out the pass rush and 2nd corner spot, but there are a lot of playmakers on defense there.

Hes clearly looking Dotsons way at the snap. And Dotson has his man flat footed on a go route. Im not sure why Hurts came off of that and went to the other side of the field.

Looks not debatable that AJ was just trying to block, and kinda looks like Smith did too. Think the offense wasnt all on the same page. Entire OL pass blocked, but WRs ran an RPO.

Dotson. Dotson looks good in that play. Hurts comes off of him for some reason.

You're right. He looks at Dotson first. I am guessing the safety was over top of that route. Goedert is has 2 defenders as well. Devonta looks like he was running an out route but engaged to push off and run outside. He wasn't trying to maintain a block.

With all the injuries they have, he definitely has been one of their best defensive players.

I keep saying we need to see all 22 for the safety there. But my thought is, Dotson has his man flat footed and Dotson is on a go, so he is even right away, which means he is leaving. Hurts looks away.

There are basically 2 options for the safety there. Hes either walked up pretty close to the LOS in which case, Hurts has to put that over the top on the go route and its a likely TD. Or, the safety is deep, and because of how quickly Dotson beat his man, theres going to be a window to fit that in ahead of the safety getting there.

I dont think Im going to find it necessary for Hurts to come off that 1st read.

The end of the play worked out, but I suspect this is another example of Hurts making things more difficult than they needed to be and everyone blaming Patullo.

We see 10 Minnesota defenders in the picture, with Harrison Smith walked up near the LOS, so its single high. Theres no way that other safety lined up right over top of Dotson's go route.

The only explanation I can come up with is that AJ was trying to avoid an Offensive Pass Interference call when the DB positioned himself to block AJ from making an In cut.
