Yeah i don’t get why anyone would be mad. It’s a nothing trade that maybe Carter actually helps you out in some way and you basically don’t lose more than 10-12 draft slots

Harrison Bryant and a 5th for Carter and a 7th, if you look through the two trades

I can guarantee you that he is not back on his current contract in 2026 or 2027

Because injuries can happen in the NFL and maybe DeJean is forced to miss some time. Improving your team’s overall depth is generally a good idea, especially when you don’t have to give up a whole lot.

Howie looks like he's in trading depth pieces for depth pieces mode. And trying to keep the draft pile same. So that would put Ringo 1st on my list to go next. Then maybe Aziz. Metchie trade keeps Dotson here. And McKee is the ultimate wild card. Probably in the offseason with him for a nice return. Also have Howell in the right deal.

When you look at all the weapons KC has they are going to need depth in the secondary. Metchie wasn't seeing the field. This guy could. I'm happy with it.

Fran and Bo said they think there's a possibility that this is just them adding quality bodies to the position and giving them options.

Rice, Worthy, Thornton and Brown. With Kelce & Gray. That's deep. My worry with them is their offensive line. That's why I'm not as sold as I could be with them. Still, team to beat in AFC for me.

I don’t think Howie would play games with CB positional value when it comes to giving DeJean a new contract, but him being paid as an outside CB instead of Nickel is significant.

I guess I just don’t really get it? Like our CB2 stinks so why not try and address that? Rather than these low risk low reward moves that don’t really do anything to improve us.

What a bunch of whiners. They gave up a WR who wasn't playing at all and swapped what is likely a late 6th for an early 7th in 2027. In other words, they got Michael Carter for free. Worst case they get some much needed depth for the secondary, best case he plays well and they can use him in the slot and put Dejean outside full time which upgrades the secondary. It's no risk / potential high reward. Not sure what is so difficult to understand about this or why some feel the need to complain about it. People acting like there are all of these high level CB2's out there to be traded for are delusional.

I think some of the frustration is we are just trying to get back to Isaiah Rodgers equivalence here and this probably isn't quite it. Still a good value type deal. Like for him to throw more darts at this like he did with Suh/Joseph.

I don't know much about the player himself, but concerning trading for a slot corner my initial thought after reading others comments, I agree that it's a low risk move that doesn't necessarily mean anything just yet. Fangio typically will say he has to get the guy in practice to see what he can do. Howie didn't feel the need to overpay for a starting outside corner at this time. It would make sense to draft a corner or sign a free agent this offseason to address that.

Vic also has already used versatility when needed. Light at Edge and Dean returning, he put Campbell at Edge for some snaps. DeJean is a versatile player who can play outside corner and safety. If Carter works out and gets some snaps, it may just be Fangio moving pieces around for certain packages that suit the player's strengths.

Now, if DeJean does move outside he's better than any other CB2 they've had, and that means Fangio weighed the risk of moving him from slot and trusting that putting Carter or someone else there overall makes the defense stronger than keeping DeJean at his best spot and having scrubs at CB2.

Plus any change in positions doesn't mean it's permanent. Vic can play around with things and then revert as needed.

So if we win the Super Bowl and Jets continue to do what the Jets do does that mean this could be Metchie and pick 216 for Carter II and pick 217?

I’m not sure. There probably wasn’t a great option because someone like Alontae Taylor would cost a decent pick (third rounder I’d guess) and he would need a new context. Woolen may or may not be available but also not a great scheme fit. I like McCreary but the price was quite a bit higher for him.
