Now Trey Hendrickson is a prime example of why big name all-pro's just dont work at the deadline. That's a trade that just should happen.

He doesn't want to be there at this point. He's gone after this season. The Bengals are going nowhere. And he's already starting to diminish. Get what you can above the expected comp pick and move on. Instead, a good player will waste his last bit of juice on a bad team in a lost season because they can't swallow the pride and PR hit of trading away their best defensive player of this generation.

The trade deadline is for patching up positions of need with good players...not for putting a team over the top with true studs. It just gets too complicated.

To entertain the Miles Garrett pipe dream for a minute...how does the cap hit get spread out?

How much of that salary responsibility moves over to the receiving team and how much gets strapped on the Browns?

We talk about the Eagles taking on a huge cap hit to trade AJ Brown.

I admit that I'm ignorant to cap hit distribution with trades. Depending on how much of the hit is absorbed by the unloading team, that, I'd think, would really jack up the value of some of these players.

IMO, the best trade deadline deals (for both sides) are the ones that simply address inefficiencies in the player personnel market.

Good player making good money with limited control/years (0.5-1.5) left on the deal on a team that is transitioning towards a rebuild getting traded to a team in a playoff push with a positional need. That's just natural osmosis there. Everyone walks away happy.

Still young but disappointing first round picks nearing the end of the deal are best exchanged in the offseason. That's when you have a chance to let your coaches, system, etc take them in a new direction. They aren't going to give you anything in the back stretch of the season on a brand new team.

And the all-pro big names...there is too much posturing and macho negotiating. No one cares if Chubb wins a SB on the Eagles. If the Browns trade MG to the Eagles and the team and defense win a SB on his back, it's going to be another story in Brown history that never goes away. And the Eagles will have to pay Cleveland for that fear in extra draft capital.

IMO, Chubb is the only one that fits that description. There are probably a couple CBs that do too.

Yep, Chubb maybe Njoku if looking for a TE which isn't a big need but I can see Howie doing possibly.

Garrett's cap hits for the Eagles are very manageable through 2028, and you'd cut him after that year and take $52mm of dead money in 2029. 2029 is when we are tanking and have a crapload of dead money that will hit (Hurts if not extended being the massive one at over $90mm).

A plus blocking TE who could catch a pass if needed would be huge. My fantasy would be Darnell Washington clearing a path up field for Saquon. That's not happening but still an upgrade over Calcaterra would be nice.

If Carter believes in himself, he should probably just play out next year and then go for the bigger contract.

It's a weird situation where you may actually wind up with the team wanting the extension and the player wanting to play out the season.

That's... the ideal situation with someone like Carter. If he signs on a discount next year, maybe he never gets his head back. If he shows up focused and has a monster year, well #1 that's a boon to the 2026 Eagles season and he'll be signed to a contract that he shouldn't complain* about for at least a few years if he remains a monster.

(*i'm aware that any player at any time might decide to moan about their contract, but at least it won't be 'justified' moaning)

WTH

What is up with the fines for penalties this year

Random…

I think this is Lane’s last year. Just a hunch. If so, RT will be the top priority this offseason.

Why in the world wpupd he sign a discount deal? Especially when he isnt a FA next year?

Because a big bag of bonus money is worth more next year than two years from now? Any number of things could happen between next year and two years from now...

There is no reason for Carter to not go for a top end deal when he gets his new deal. Any belief otherwise is along the same line of people who think their teams QB will take a discount.

What's up with straight up football plays being penalties is more like it.

Worst union out there. Not sure what they negotiate for but allowing a union member to get docked a good part of their pay for doing something the owners are actually profiting off is a choice.

I agree. It feels like Lane’s last year

There are two things I always thought the league did wrong. The first was not going for it more in 4th down which the Eagles finally pioneered changing in 2017. The second is not using the 6th OL as the 2nd TE more. I think the Eagles are finally learning that as well. If you have Fred Johnson do you really need a 2nd TE who might catch a pass every 2 games? Isn’t the benefit of Fred playing more higher than the one catch. Now if you have an Ertz-Goedert combo then that’s better but that’s rare

Hope I’m wrong, but Jaire sounds completely washed.

If Baltimore is getting rid of him, I would for sure have concerns.

So much negativity over this trade, sheeez guys... He is absolutely worth a shot at that cost!

I wanted him if he came cheap in the offseason but based off watching him with the ravens. He has been bad.

Trading a 6 for a 7 (year later) isn’t implying a lot of value. It’s a shot to see if he works better in Fangio system.

Is he better than Adore?
