Why is where they were great athletes important

It says Philly right there, so given that they are discussing hone grown players, but adopted sons in pro sports that its about their time in philly and no where else.

I can't edit the above. But this is what it should say...

It says Philly right there, so given that they are not discussing home grown players, but rather adopted sons in pro sports that its about their time in philly and no where else. Kobe Bryant would get a spot otherwise. As would Mike Trout. (Assuming we expanded the definition to include the region, not just the city.)

And just for hilarity... check out #64. Andrew Bellati made the list. How's that for fortune? We need a stud guard to grab that number and make it work.

You are nothing if not self assured.

Look up the definition of athlete. ,,, "An athlete is a person who competes in a sport or is skilled in physical exercises, requiring strength, agility, or stamina."

The greatest aspects of Clarke transcended strength, agility and stamina. He was much more than an athlete. He was a walking example of what Kipling described when he said:

If you can keep your head when all about you

    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

    But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

    Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

    And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

    And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

    To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

    Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

    Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

    If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

    With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

    And—which is more—you’ll be a Mensch, my son!

Clarke was more than the heart and nerve and sinew of an athlete. He was a Mensch.

Where did Mensch come from? That, most emphatically, is not a word Kipling would have used.

Any fans in the UK planning to watch the game in Passyunk on Thursday? 😊

I'm not, but I plan to catch the same "viral" infection someone on my team caught this week so I can take the morning off work and watch the game. It might stretch into the arvo so I can get some DIY done while the weather is still good....

And that's how the Patriots did it

Still not enough outrage of Mike Patterson being on that list

Lol, nobody said Brown had a really good camp. The best he got pretty much across the board was "he was ok." I can't believe there are still people who believe Brown can be a starting S in this league. He will always be a great ST'er but the dude has ZERO football IQ. He will be the 4th S sooner rather than later.

Meh. Not sure how or why the media has turned on the kid - played relatively well before he was hurt.

Regardless, my money is on Brown starting Thursday night. We shall see.

Real chance Jets draft in top 5...and we have their 3rd rounder.

For those that don't recall, they infamously fought naked in the Eagles lockerroom like that scene in Eastern Promises.

Whereabouts in the UK are you bud?

It's funny the Eagles talk about no distractions and have all these videos talking about last year coming out and have the Tush Push sponsored. Honestly I don't think it matters one bit but it's funny nonetheless

Hawerchuck lit the lamp an astounding 21 times as a Flyer. That's a real Philly legend.

BG over Danny Markov must have been a tough call for the brain trust behind this list.

Every beat who has seen this in advance says it's excellent

Agree to disagree.

I live in the South, around 50 miles from that there London. Near enough to use it as needed, but far enough away to not get caught up in its many dramas.

He played relatively FAST before he was hurt, but often overran plays and was out of position because of it.

Fields is terrible, I can't see how it makes it the whole season as a starter.

Uh, Wilt Chamberlain is hands down the greatest athlete in Philly sports history.

Reggie White would give Schmidt a run for his money as the greatest player in Philly sports history, along with the Big Dipper and Dr J. And Bobby Clarke isn't far behind (won Hart trophy 3 times, also 2nd, 4th, 6th (2), 8th 10th (2))

IDK. Wilt was a freak sized athlete at his time. In comparison there was Iverson, who wasn’t an athletic freak or Moses or Charles. Dr. J was outstanding. That’s just round ball. This, Joe is better than Sam is white noise to me.

@mattwill

PHI - 34

DAL - 16

PHI - 13 wins vs 4 losses

PHI - Overcomes a season ending injury to a top starter with a 2nd or 3rd playing like a pro-bowler in the replacement role, most likely an offensive player.

Have a great year folks.
