There's a reason why the offense, with largely the same core of players, looked so good in '22, then regressed in '23, then improved in '24, only to regress again this year. If I'm ranking the OC's based on their ability to scheme guys open, I'd go Steichen, Moore, then a large abyss, then Patullo / Johnson.

They have no go to pass plays for critical moments. No bootleg roll outs to the RB in the flat. No hard play action to the TE. No pick play to free up a WR at the sticks. Nothing. It's Hurts drops back, everyone runs 7-10 yard curls, and if not, Jalen take off or throw it away.

This is the offense Hurts wants.IMO, things are not working because our OL isn't close to being dominant like last season. Fix that and everything else false into place.
Monday at 03:38 PM1 day Thoughts on the game…I can’t stand the Patullo offense. It really brings back memories of the 2015 offense, where Chip Kelly would call hopeless run after hopeless run for Demarco Murray, and our passing game couldn’t do anything on 3rd and long. I am completely dumbfounded by the decrease in 11 personnel, the lack of a plan for AJB/Devonta, and the total meekness on 3rd and long. I have zero faith in him during it around, and I hope they can find some solution to mitigate the damage he can cause. If they insist on running this BS offense, trading for a TE needs to be a top priority. Calcaterra getting 49% of the snaps on a team that doesn’t throw to TE2 is malpractice.Last thought on the offensive scheme… I don’t think Saquon, AJ, Devonta, and 4/5 of the OL have massively declined overnight. I get there are lingering injuries, etc. at play, but come on man…Each week, there are 2-3 guys on defense that you can point to that changed the game. Pretty much every week, Zack Baun is one of those guys. We’re so lucky to have him (and Fangio).Ringo wasn’t tested much today, and I didn’t see him do anything that made me feel better about him. You can see the lateral movement limitations when he has to tackle in space. Still a huge hole at CB2.Going a little against the grain here: I thought Bigsby looked great when he got the ball on kick return. Violent and fearless. I thought they gave up too much for him, but I like the idea of Shipley/Bigsby as Saquon insurance. Really good mix of skills.Cam Latu has some Bryan Braman (RIP) in him. Just an animal on STs.

Monday at 03:42 PM1 day I know you can't take anything for granted in this league and no game is a gimme, but man they really need to consider giving Lane and Dickerson a game off to get right. I think this offense would look completely different if we could actually open a running lane.

When they beat the better teams on the schedule, then they fear "trap" games. The stretch after the bye is challenging but thankfully it is after the bye and some easier games right before it. Packers, Lions, Cowboys at Dallas. All winnable games, but anything can happen and every team wants to bring their best. The Packers will want to prove themselves after we beat them twice last year, the Cowboys will want to split the series in their home stadium. The Lions will be competing for the #1 seed. It will be an exciting stretch and they need to be really prepared and healthy after the bye.
Monday at 03:44 PM1 day Just now, Connecticut Eagle said:It was recorded as unnecessary roughness. That's weird. The broadcast definitely said taunting. Even McLane yesterday afternoon said he drew the penalty by saying something he shouldn't have.
Monday at 03:45 PM1 day Well, that was something...I guess they decided to flip the script and tank the 2nd half this week. For the record, I prefer last week's plan which left all of us feeling euphoric. I was convinced we were going to blow the game right until the very end...which makes no sense as we had an 8 point lead and a real defense (not the 2023 crap show). Anyway, here are my thoughts:OFFENSEHurts -- it's getting really difficult to evaluate Jalen given how bad the play calling and play design has gotten. He was damn near flawless in the 1st half and finally killed Bowles' blitzes time and and time again. Then after halftime the Bucs basically stopped blitzing and the offense couldn't adapt. I haven't watched the all 22 or anything, but it didn't seem like Jalen was missing open targets in the 2nd half -- he did miss on a double move to AJ that looked open, but that's going to happen. It's downright absurd to me that when we get into a funk like that, KP doesn't have a play call that's an easy completion to get back on track. Everything is a curl, slant or go ball. We need the RPO action back to try and bust slumps. While the entire national media debate will center on Jalen, the real issue is our run game is irretrievably broken. 19 for 43 by Barkley is abhorrent, and 22 for 60 by the running backs is just terrible. Barkley is getting hit in the backfield on basically every handoff, and it is the real reason the offense stalls. KP came out in the 2nd half determined to run the ball and kill clock (like we did a bunch last year), and we simply can't do it right now. Here are my concerns:The offensive line isn't opening holes, and it's not because of Steen. Landon isn't healthy, and he can't pull at all right now. Mailata isn't playing as well as last year, and frankly neither is Jurgens. We have to stop with the fullback formations and runs -- we just suck at it. It brings too many people into the box.The creativity from last year (pin and pull, toss plays) is gone. Maybe that's because the line is limited physically. Maybe it's a stylistic choice by KP. But either way, it's like calling HB Dive on Madden every time. I almost feel like KP keeps running into stacked boxes because he hopes SB breaks through and takes it to the house. Brown's frustration is starting to impact his effort level it appears, which is concerning. I don't think AJ wants out, but I think he wants the ball and better play calls.DeVonta remains remarkably tough - thought he wouldn't get up from that hit. DEFENSE AND STMoro Ojomo is rewarding the faith the team showed in him when Milton left for a payday. 2 sacks in 4 games and a bunch of pressure. And it's even more impressive since...Jalen Carter isn't in shape and isn't having the same game wrecking impact he did most of last year. Hopefully he plays himself into game shape (he did miss most of camp), but he's arguably been our 3rd best DT so far this season.First game where I really didn't notice JD. Maybe the heat was too much for him.Baun and Campbell continue to anchor this defense. I'm not going to kill Campbell for the TD pass to Irving -- asking a LB to cover that long, and stick with a RB going vertical on a broken play, is a lot. Baun with a sack, Campbell with a pick -- they really might be the best LB duo in the league.Q and Coop might be the best pair of CBs in the league as well. I have no clue why Baker went at Q, but he completely shut down Ebuka. Ringo seemed to hold up in coverage, but shockingly his tackling was poor. He's been a sure tackler on special teams but really struggled to tackle in space in this game. Still, feels like he earned another start at CB2 against Denver.Mukuba blew it on the Bucs' first long TD pass. There's a lot to like with him, but that was an example of what Vic was talking about with him blowing assignments. That simply can't happen. All in all, they gave up 2 long TDs and 2 FGs over 55 yards. The defense saved the game and was on the field for the whole 2nd half basically.Loved the punt block, but punt coverage really struggled without Ringo at gunner. All in all, we are 4-0 against teams that are 9-2-1 against the rest of the league. I'll take it, and it feels like the defense may only get better as JC gets in shape, Campbell gets better against the run and hopefully Mukuba gets more disciplined. We all thought the defense would be the question mark given all the new starters, but it's the damn offense. KP got way too conservative once we had the lead, and it feels like Nick is too in love with the idea of simply winning the turnover battle. Still, I didn't think we'd be 4-0. This felt kinda like the Browns game last year - a win where everyone feels terrible afterwards.

Maybe it's they don't think the QB would thrive, which would be an absurd notion on their part.I don't understand what your position is. Do you think the passing concepts are fine? I don't think we can just hang our hats on "We won a Super Bowl last season so everything is fine." In fact, I think the Eagles players would be the first to tell you it isn't good enough. They know the passing offense isn't acceptable. The difference last season was the defense was lockdown and Barkley was unstoppable. So they could just rely on the running game to get them points because Barkley was ripping defenses apart. They haven't had that this season, so they need to rely on the passing game more, and eventually it's going to cost them if they don't fix it and make some changes. It hasn't cost them yet, but it will.

He looks totally dejected and almost checked out at parts of the game.A factor with Brown is his mental health, which he's been very open about. Some interviews this year he's been positive and said he's not worried about his stats, it's about winning, and the catches will come. He had a big game last week with 109 yards and a TD. He actually had the most targets yesterday with 9 but some were forced. He seems to wear his heart on his sleeve and share things either verbally or on social media. He often balances any "cryptic" or supposed negative comments later with positive ones. I wonder how much of it is his mental state and hope he's getting the help he needs.
