But there are a couple things that are going on right now with dodgers and how they are pitching the Phillies. The Dodgers bullpen is making the Phillies try to chase and nibbling at the corners (not the piggyback starters (sans kershaw he is just done so he tries to get everyone to chase) but their actual BP). But if you look at their starters (outside of snell in the 6th inning last night when losing his control), they’re leaving stuff in the zone frequently and they have basically been saying try to hit our stuff. Yamamoto did much of the night. And the Phillies finally connected this series. Which might be the fact some of the guys are getting themselves into a rhythm again after a week and a half of meaningless games then a week off.Yeah I feel like the most successful teams are the ones who have to fight to get into the playoffs and finally do, which is why the best teams by record don't actually win the WS all that often (only like 23% of the time since the implementation of the luxury tax system). Meaningless games for a large stretch of time heading into the playoffs + a bye is like pouring a bucket of ice water onto a campfire.
Yesterday at 06:29 AM1 day Eagles lead the all time series 93-87-2@mattwill Eagles 20Giants 16Ugly win but Barkely goes over 100 yardsTonight is about getting a W and staying healthy and getting into the mini bye.
Yesterday at 06:32 AM1 day Back on Eagles, I hope this game @Giants acts like a springboard for the offense like it did last season.

It’s a tough matchup to begin with. Add on analytically without wheeler the dodgers were the slight favorites. They have some lineup advantages. Neither team’s actual bullpen is very good. Funny Phillies bullpen era is 4.25 and dodgers is 4.27. Granted Phillies didn’t have Duran all year. Tbh Milwaukee is about the only team left in the NL with a really good BP. Chicago’s is ok.I thought it would be close but the dodgers would win the series unless Phillies could knock their starters out before the 6th. Cause they’d go piggyback in some of these games with Sheehan and glasnow (pretty sure Ohtani would start game 5 and snell would piggyback— I’d say reverse but if Ohtani comes in for relief i believe they lose him as a DH) so you wouldn’t face their actual bullpen for more than an inning which is not good if dodgers starters went 6-7 innings. They really got to get glasnow out of the game by the 6th tomorrow

He literally said he felt sorry for Clayton Kershaw multiple times and even said "he deserved better." Deserved better?? He's a pro athlete who didn't perform well in a game and deserves nothing other than the opportunity he had to keep the Dodgers in the game.I mean I'm probably reading too much in to it, but when Schwarber hit his first home run, his initial response was Uh Oh. Is his home run a bad thing?

When the offball OG pulls across the formation to lead the runner, the unblocked DL is completely crashing through the open gap and pursuing the play from behind. The offensive brain trust should see this and run a counter with a misdirection or reverse to keep them honest...there is absolutely no counter...again which suggests either a failure in real time play calling or no sequencing...I am sure that this is just one example of the myopia and stupidity. That sort of thing should be a staple in any sport. They managed it with the shove, but outside of that, the O is WYSIWYG. Fangio does a great job of messing around with players positions and blitzes - its almost comical how the O side of the ball is almost the polar opposite of the D. One side, mad professor, the other side, here is your run play, pass play, etc.

Then coaches with big egos decided they knew better. Do you think Patullo knows better?

Paul Brown in the late 40's and 50s called plays for Otto Graham. Brown won a bunch of Championships calling the plays for Otto Graham. In the 70's Landry didn't let Staubach call his own plays. Walsh called the plays for Montana. I think one reason it fell out of favor is the prevalence of the West Coast offense in the 90's. Another argument is that teams that had an OC/HC calling plays were more successful. Marino and Jim Kelly both called their own plays and neither were able to win. Aikman, Montana and Staubach won multiple Championships.

18 hours ago18 hr Tonight is a big one! We need to get right and we need to put in a very good performance. If we go out there and struggle and keep it close (even if we win) then I’m going to be absolutely convinced this is going to be another 2023 season. In 2023 we had a chance to get right against the Giants, we struggled in game 1 and then a couple of weeks later lost… This could be similar so we’ve got to convince.

I think the reason for that is what you've touched on, the complexity of a modern NFL offense has grown so much, both in breadth and depth, that dumping that task load on the QB along with everything else he's managing, is just not as efficient as offloading some of that to the dudes on the sidelines who are paying more attention to everything else happening on the field. And even then, coaches often miss things, because of the intricacies of the game itself (22 players all performing an action in a span of a few seconds that fits into a much larger puzzle, so real-time analysis is much more difficult than any other sport in existence.)Now something like baseball, on the other hand, seems like it can be entirely player coached with minimal drop-off. Or at least that's the way it seems to someone whose only experience playing organized "baseball" is beer league softball with slightly out of shape guys in their thirties.
