That argument falls apart. Their OL is busted up and failing. The DL cannot stop the run. They have no CB2. There is no OL or DB depth. NOT the most talented roster, at least not now.

I don't think they are playing up to their talent level. And even with their roster flaws, I don't see a more talented roster in the NFL than the Eagles. The Lions are close, but I'd take the Eagles roster. The Lions are just playing better and are better coached right now. And I think look fresher. And frankly, playing with more of a chip on their shoulder, which I think is affecting the Eagles this year. Last season they were singularly focused on vengeance and getting to the SB. Psychologically that's hard to do.

None of that means they arent the most talented. Most of them are the same guys as last year. Its extremely talented. They just arent performing for whatever reason/s.

So, this isn’t even a take. So don’t get your collective panties in a twist. Just thinking out loud. But I wonder if drafting Campbell round 1 was just the wrong way to allocate resources. We all loved how transformational Baun was to the defense last year. But he got his money AND we put a 1st round pick into that position. A position which was neglected for years…but maybe it was over neglected, yet neglected for a reason.

This defense needs edge rushers and CB2 and has poor safety play right now. Yet we’ve got an off ball LB on a big contract in Baun, a really good one in Dean, a first round pick in Campbell, and two at least half decent young prospects in Trotter and Mondon.

How much marginal benefit is Campbell ever really going to provide this defense?

They took the best player available, exactly what they should have done.

Also expect me to pursue sydney sweeney…

I'm pretty sure the Lions have not looked good against a good team yet.

The AFC North is garbage this year. Even Pittsburgh got thrashed by Seattle and needed a kickoff fumble to beat Justin Fields and the Jets.

Chicago, Cincy, Cleveland, and Baltimore are a combined 6-13, or 6-9 when not playing the Lions.

Dallas, KC, Rams, Tampa, Denver, and NY are 17-15-1 or 15-11-1 when not playing the Eagles.

There is a decent chance that 4 maybe 5 of 6 Eagles opponents could make the playoffs (with Dallas hoping for a 7th seed at best)

There is almost zero chance for 3 of Detroit's opponents making the playoffs with Green Bay very likely and Chicago a wait and see for a 6th or 7th spot at best.

The Bears are playing better now but were a mess for the first few weeks. To be fair the Packers who crushed the Lions were playing better early than they are now.

There is no reason yet to crown Detroit like everyone insisted on doing every week last year. Beating KC , even as they stumble, would be a nice win but it would just be a start.

Lets see them not go 1-3 vs Minnesota and Green Bay first.

Jermaine Johnson, Hendrickson. Go get em, Howie.

This Eagles team is not good and should not be wasting draft picks on rentals.

Team needs to start showing life and not keep looking like it is going in increasing decline before I want Howie to make a big all in trade on this season. I think the defense can rebound and show life again once Carter and Quinyon are back but I'm not sure the offense is fixable given that they are stuck with the OC choice that they made.

Also do I think a pass rusher would help the defense and help mask the complete hole at cb2? Yes, but I don't think you can depend on on a great pass rush to always be there every game it as we saw in the Sod Father Super Bowl. A move for an Edge would absolutely need to be one of two moves with the other being for a competent starting outside corner.

Lions have more speed in offense thats tough to contend with, williams is a legit deep threat at WR and opens stuff up, and when you have a back like gibbs who also has a lot of speed thats tough to cover

Eagles dont have a legit deep threat, Smith is probably the fastest of the eagles WRs and hes only a 4.45 guy. AJ is a 4.5 guy dotson a 4.45 guy.

Quez like him or hate him was a 4.3 guy and could threaten the deep 3rd, they dont have anyone on the roster like that.

Eagles O is built more on bullying people and right now the bullies look old and slow☹️

Talent is simply the ability to perform. QED. And surely you can’t say they have depth at OL or in the secondary, or can you? The same guys as last year are busted up, diminishing their ability to perform and the guys behind them aren’t as good. There’s a significant dropoff. Last year we had Becton and Dickerson at guard. Thursday we had Toth and Steen. At DT we had Davis and three Jags. Ringo instead of Slay. Etc. The best roster is a fiction. It’s names on a sheet of paper, not the players on the field.

I hope this addresses @Sack that QB ’s comments as well. It’s an odd thing to see me being less sanguine than you guys.

This has been a hell of a bad week in sports in the city. I’m not sure it could get worse but i wouldn’t doubt it right now

I know that Howie has earned some grace, but over the years its always been popular to pile on Howie and Ive long been a supporter. So thisll probably be written off as me being an apologist.

But Fangio wants tacklers at CB. That was a strength of Ringo's. Also Mitchell, and DeJean.

Rodgers is very slim and tackling isnt seen as a strength of his. I suspect he wasnt really a Fangio guy.

We see how Jackson doesnt want to tackle. And know that Fangio didnt even want him either.

It might not be as acceptable to blame Fangio for...well, anything. But.... Im not sure how much Ringo over Rodgers was a Howie mistake. One was a big bodied solid tackler. One was a small cover CB who lacked that physicality. Not Fangio's style.

If we were looking for veteran insurance at CB2 behind Ringo, based on your interpretation I’m surprised Howie didn’t bring in Rasul who has always had a nice combination of physicality and awareness (just not long speed).
