I agree. We should actually be rebuilding. Time to trade Hurts, AJ and Barkley.

@greend how much juice do you got left to play a situational pass rush role?

Howie is on it

The negativity is insufferable on here. The birds will be fine. They will win the division, make the playoffs and maybe get to another Super Bowl. Stay off the bus if you’re crying right now about it

I’m really starting to wonder about Fangio. He’s been fantastic for us for the most part and last season was about as good as it gets for a defense and defensive coordinator here.

That said, I’m starting to get "when things are going his way, things are great but when things start to slip, they slip fast” type of vibes.

There’s a reason he was practically booted out of Miami.

Miami is a dysfunctional organization. The player complaints about Fangio are the exact things Eagles fans like about him, and the young defensive players especially from Georgia love it, the old school tough mentality. Miami sucks this year and is on the verge of firing Mike McDaniels (who at one time was the new hot commodity and creating an "unstoppable" offense that was the envy of the league.)

Fangio took the defense from (almost) worst to first. He's had 2 games without star Jalen Carter, who even when playing has nagging injury. No Nolan Smith, Nakobe Dean, now Mitchell. He's got 2 rookies starting day 1, and last year's 3rd round pick starting at Edge. He has hot garbage at CB2, and none of the Edge rushers are living up to expectations (Nolan Smith might once he's back). Now Za'Darius has retired.

People have short memories and forget that to start last year they were 2-2 before the bye and people were complaining about the defense and impatient. After the bye, Fangio made adjustments after seeing what he had with his new team and roster, inserted Cooper DeJean and the rest was history.

We have to see what happens with guys coming back from injury and whatever Howie does about CB2 or Edge. But Fangio and his staff are very good coaches and will steady the ship.

Nop. Fangio is good, but injuries are injuries, and the financial resources were put into the offense while Fangio and the defense is expected to build through the draft and develop players, despite the defense carrying last year. Wasn't smart, should have signed Rodgers.

You're right.

Also, didn't know that HE is non-binary or trans. Very progressive.

Sirriani lost the locker room again. Howie should have fired him in 23.

I don’t disagree with any this - it’s likely mostly true for a lot of players

That said, Smith retiring is about the timing and place he decided to retire. 6 games into a season when you’re actually playing relatively well - you’re the only relevant DE on the team - and knowing if you were to just quit on the spot, you would put the team in a very bad predicament.

To think that it was "just him hitting a wall” and nothing else is sort of silly, imo.

I didn't say he just realized he hit a wall this morning. There's a reason he was on the street to start the season. He was probably mulling it over, got a call from the Eagles, thought he'd give it a try, and realized it wasn't the right thing and decided to retire.

There are a lot of players that do this. We've had players here that were brought in and retired in training camp and preseason before. Foles was considering retirement before he was brought back here a 2nd time.

We are in desperate need of good news surrounding Philly sports. This doesn't qualify as good news, but I'm happy to see this being done.

That's grounds for divorce.

Howie making moves!

Remember before last season, fans thought they had so many good corners that they should trade Rodgers or Ricks? Good times.

Both AJ and Smith have had very good seasons with Hurts as the QB. If you could show me where Patullo has done really well everywhere but here, I am interested. I know Hurts doesn't do some things well. He's still very good at certain things and has made more good throws than bad. Certainly bad players can make good OC's look bad but that's not what is going on with the Eagles.

Those guys had their best years before teams caught up to the RPO so well. Their being utilized to about 40% of their aiblity in the Hurts offenses that have spanned over multiple OCs now. Even in their good seasons, they were capable of doing more, in a different system, or with a different QB. Hurts minimizes the talents of his receivers. Goedert is another example of this being true. Our numerous 3rd WRs as well.

He just needs a tree blind and a Springfield .30-06.

Today just keeps getting worse

As a very casual observer, I think his shortcomings can be overcome by a roster of elite hitters that never hit actually doing their jobs. He might make some dumb bullpen decisions, but the consistent lack of bullpen talent hasnt helped either. Still, the bigger issue seems to be year after year, the bats going cold and Im not sure how much blame you can really put on him for that. A new coach isnt fixing that.
