EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Featured Replies

One play in yesterday game stands out as remarkable. On the Bills fumble in the 4Q (I think), which was ruled caused by the ground later, there was a Bills player near to the ball on the ground, DeJean was also nearby. He was smart to push the Bills player away from the ball before he fell on it to recover it. Even it did not result as a turn-over, the instant processing of situation and action was remarkable and not commonly seen.

McKee, Tank, Dotson, and Cooper are going to kill DC on Sunday.

That team is washed.

Josh Uche might have 3 sacks.

I keep reading in here Lane Johnson will require surgery for his injury eventually. I have not seen that. From what I read doctors determined it was a ligament sprain in the midfoot (Lisfranc injury) and not a fracture, meaning no surgery was needed for this specific issue. Usually a 4-6 week recovery.

Can I check if I am in the right place? My favourite team won a tough, close game on the road last night against an 11 win team who rarely lose at home, and in awful conditions (and with horrible officiating). My favourite team has also won its division with games to spare this year and is also the first back-to-back winners of that division in 20 years or so. Their schedule included 11 games of 17 to be played against playoff teams from the previous season, while also having no back-to-back home games. My favourite team could still be the 2 seed, and is also the current reigning champion. My favourite team is guaranteed a home playoff game and has a realistic shot at going to the Super Bowl for the third year in a row. I'm happy with my team, yet I feel out of place... what a time to be alive.

That was a fun play, followed by beautiful JC sack, capped off by Reed lighting up a WR underneath. Great defensive football.

It was awesome microsecond processing.

If Hurts had that same instant awareness when he got his pick back on the fumble vs LA and just covered up and fell to the ground, they probably beat LA. If AJ realizes that going for the Hail Mary will ruin DeVonta's chance at the catch then maybe they beat Denver.

Its a high bar of expectation but recently AJ, Hurts, and Latu failed and Cooper got it done.

I don't know how you drill or teach that or you just have it but Cooper plays like he is a 10 year vet.

See Zach Baun miked up in the SB.

@e-a-g-l-e-s eagles! Trading for Phillips, signing Epps, and shifting Adoree to mostly play the wide side have all been incredible moves for this squad. They are playing as well or better than last year's unit at this time.

With the regular season pretty much over, who is everyone's MVP on each side of the ball? For me:

Offense:

DeVonta Smith

Defense:

Quinyon Mitchell

Honorary mention: Cooper DeJean

ST:

Braden Mann

Shoutouts: Fred Johnson for filling in for Lane and Marcus Epps filling in for Mukuba

I'm far from RTK but I don't know how you can look at this offense and blame Hurts. Playcalling, personnel decisions and OL play have all been WAY bigger problems than him occasionally making a bad read or bailing from the pocket.

Loved the phillips trade at the time. He’s really good when healthy and started to look better towards the deadline from his injury recovery. He’s a stud. He’s not a household name like Crosby or Garrett (nor as elite) but he’s a great fit in this scheme.

Epps was also a good low risk high reward signing. Imo he’s actually more consistent than Mukuba. Mukuba is going to get better over time but he’s a rookie and Epps has played high level football for a SB team. He isn’t an elite starter but is competent.

As for adoree he made a big leap really around when we got Phillips. I think the pass rush becoming great has helped him and fangio doing some things to protect him. Imo I think with a better corner than adoree the defense could actually be even greater which is hard to say with how they are playing. It’s kind of why i think next offseason we probably draft a corner relatively high. I also like Greg Newsome. He’s a FA and 25. PFF has him graded low but he’s been solid for the jags defense who’s also turned the corner. He isn’t going to be pricey. Think it’s a low risk high reward situation

I don't know how, but the Eagles are gonna have to find a way to sign Phillips, Carter, and Davis.

Offense:

Hurts: 33 TDs to 10 turnovers on this dogs breakfast of an offense is very good.

Its more like 40 to 9 if AJ gives better effort and the other players have less TD killing penalties.

No lineman deserves it. AJ has been trash mentally and DeVonta had a few too many drops. (yes Hurts missed him for 80+)

Saquon has been as good as he can be behind a trash line.

Josh Allen would be respected for putting up Hurts' numbers with all these problems at OC and injuries and everything else.

Stafford was worshiped last year at 20 TDs and 12 turnovers. What a leader! What precision! That guy really runs an offense!

Darnold is in the pro bowl games with 25 TDs and 20 turnovers.

Defense:

Q and Cooper tied. The secondary was a mess around them but they are just so incredible.

Q has been absolutely abused by refs this year both with bad calls and bad non-calls on push offs.

DeJean punishing runners and screens is just wonderful.

Honorable mention to Jordan Davis who remade himself this offseason and has been needed with Carter's injuries and ejection.

Special Teams:

Jalen Cater's paws (honorable mention to Jordan Davis' paws)

Shout out to Tank who runs hard when he gets a few carries every week and Fred too (Pryor was so awful)

I think Hurts also deserves blame, but so does the O line, the coaches for putting out the walking wounded out of pride/stubborness, Stoutland University isn't what it used to be, the run game, the WR routes, the WR drops, the refs...there's a lot of reasons. A lot of it can be fixed by coaching. If Kellen Moore would have returned we'd have a better offense, and the #1 seed.

Defense -- 1. Davis 2. Baun 3. DeJean

Offense -- 1. ........................................ Mailata (?) 2. Barkley 3. Goedert

I think it's pretty tough to make a case for anyone on the offense, honestly. The OL has been banged up, Hurts just hasn't been very good by any objective measure, and the other skill players have suffered down seasons

Figured as he’s been getting beat up behind that line and Fealk difference between 6 or 7 seed is choosing either jags who massacred them earlier this year and have beat them multiple times recently or NE.

I’d lean heavily toward sitting the starters this week, regardless of seeding.

We desperately need another bye week. 60% of our OL is injured, our best player overall has 2 wrecked shoulders, Jaelan Phillips just had an injury scare. I trust our backups against a depleted Commanders unit in the event the Bears give us a window.

This is the right call. The offense doesn't get anything from playing, they are what they are at this point. Just have to hope they can find an above average level in the playoffs and Playoff Hurts shows up. The defense just played 73 snaps in awful weather, they need the rest. I also don't think Detroit is going into Chicago and winning that game anyway. And I think there's a good chance McKee with backups can still beat Washington.

Anyone who says a comp pick is better than giving him a new deal is a moron. He's the perfect compliment to Jalyx Hunt.

Those can be treated non-surgically, but often end up requiring surgery anyway.

Its not a known thing, but he will likely get surgery in the offseason so they can ensure the joint is stable and not going to become prematurely arthritic.

And will be a more sure thing to hold up if he plays another season.

Can afford him, smith and hunt in 2026. It’s really 2027 offseason have to make a decision as smith is on 5th year option and hunt entering his last year of his deal. If you pay Phillips then likely can only keep hunt or Nolan smith long term. I brought this up a couple weeks back. I made the argument the eagles may go with hunt over smith. He is just scratching the surface of the position. He made the transition to the position and he can keep improving. As much as i love Nolan smith, he has not been extremely durable since college. While he still has upside, i kind of think hunt has more ceiling and is really beginning to take off.
