EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Resting the starters gave them a huge advantage though.

lol no it didn't.

The #2 seed is exponentially better than resting a few guys for ONE home playoff game vs not resting a few guys for at LEAST 2 home playoff games (possibly even a home NFC Championship game).

And they didn't even need to play all the starters - anyone who was "banged up" could have rested - heck, even maybe Hurts - they even had a chance to win late in the 4th quarter and they did not even put Smitty in for the last drive - no excuse for that whatsoever.

And Sirianni's excuse of not wanting to put guys in that weren't warmed up late is even more infuriating. If you decide to rest a bunch of starters - whatever, I don't agree with resting healthy guys in that game BUT you BETTER make sure that everyone on that team is READY to PLAY if needed. That means they should have been on bikes warming up the entire 2nd half in case the Bears lost - which they did. That is the most frustrating part about it.

Yeah but why would the packers play anyone in week 18? Wasn’t going to help them playing in week 18 except get more guys hurt. The packers have been toast since parsons got hurt. They’ve been bad defensively since outside of the Vikings game (which was two backup QBs)

Eagles are an entirely different circumstance.

I guess. Im just salty now that the Bears won lol

My hope is the experienced veterans on offense ball out despite the coaching. And the Siri who in the SB was aggressive and said "just call it" about the dagger will lead.

Not scared - highly disappointed with the decision making of resting the starters and not giving this team the best path forward.

This team and the players deserved better.

Well, I agree to an extent. The Lions in week 18 went into Chicago and held the Bears to 16 points. The Packers defense since Parsons got hurt has been bad. He got hurt in that Denver game. Not including week 18 Vikings game as no starters played for GB and it was Vikings 3rd string Qb. So the last four games without Micah Parsons including that Denver game they’ve given up 34, 22, 41 an 31. So 32 ppg. Heck the low one was bears scoring 22 in OT

Nah the bye is better. NFL is about rest and health #1.

Probably. Saw on Twitter. Who's a better comparison?

As far as wilting in the playoffs, it's hard to come up with anyone more fitting. Maybe Darnold? But for us as eagles fans, Dak is funnier.

They did not have a "bye week" - stop calling it that. Huge difference between resting some starters vs. having a legitimate bye week where the entire team gets an extra day or two off - then the coaching staff and the team have two full weeks to prepare. Apples to Oranges to "resting some starters for a week". Not even close.

Having the opportunity to make sure all of your players are healthy for a playoff game > where the games are played

Let's be honest, if Tanner Brady plays well we win that Redskins game. Since if that was Hurts that's exactly where the blame would have gone. Sirianni resting key starters was vital. This team has guys on so many reps for this year and the last 3 years. I think the players were 100% and totally on board with it and appreciated their coach doing that after a shortened offseason. Have to think holistically here. We will reap those rewards starting tomorrow.

Just stop already - you really don't know what you're talking about in this situation. You'll likely find out how wrong you are - both if they lose tomorrow or next week.

I hope I'm wrong though.

All this optimism until I remember who our OC is

First, they have to beat San Francisco to even get to next weekend. And that’s not a gimme game. Do I think they would’ve beaten the Packers as th 2 seed? Yes but it likely would been excruciating painful watching with this offense and we’d still feel uneasy about the divisional round matchup at home.

Secondly, the thing I like if they have to go to Chicago is they’re gonna play with a chip on their shoulder. Their defense knows they got gashed in that game in Philadelphia. They know the Bears offensive line took it to them and overall bears were the more physical team. So I would bet that defensive line and that defense is gonna be out to prove a point in that game. Feels like the eagles offense might also feel like they got de-pants by an analytically bad defense. The defense in particular when they faced the commanders in the playoffs, and then the Chiefs in the Super Bowl played with a chip on their shoulder (the whole sack counting thing). They even said it they went out there with something even more to prove because they saw the commander celebrating. And what the Chiefs did two years ago.

I actually think the Eagles know they got embarrassed on Black Friday by the bears and bullied. Not only that Ben Johnson running his mouth. If they can beat SF i think you see them play with a chip on their shoulder for that game

I believe everyone was up Kellen Moore's posterior last year as well. Turned out okay. They won in spite of him not because of him. Same will likely happen here. They figured some things out at the end of the year. It will fully reveal itself starting tomorrow.

The meme would’ve been better with Brandon McManus and then removing his face and having Ray finkle

I believe Eagles are just not a good short week team this season. Rest does them good. Will be a totally different game. And Bears are battered and maybe spent. Eagles are healthy. As of now. 🤞

Kellen Moore is one of the primary reasons this team won the Super Bowl last year - he was exceptional. He adjusted his game planning after week 4 and implemented diverse and intuitive running schemes that led this team to all-time rushing records. His game planning balanced out the offense so that the running game opened up the passing game and vice-versa, when needed - with great situational play calling. Yes, Kellen Moore did that.

As I posted in the thread, one of the few things useful to come out of Eagles reddit:

The fire Sirianni part is slight hyperbole, but otherwise this is completely accurate.

Where is the rest the starters but don't coach like total crap and blow the game and have nobody to blame but the coach and his epic failure of an OC for being incompetent?

They could have had both. It was coaching

I could have coached that team. Dominant run blocking offensive line that was underachieving in the passing game til their last 2 playoff games. This year is a different offensive line with Becton gone. Johnson injured. Dickerson/Jurgens playing at half speed in their injury recoveries. I'm not praising Patullo. But I do think they had to figure a lot of things out and what their identity is and will be at least competent going forward. Just my gut.

KP is proving not everyone can coach the talent on offense. You need a brain, so yeah you probably could coach this year, but KM did a good job.

I'll never root against this team but I will call out bad decisions - that's all I'm doing here.

I hope I'm wrong about it and this team overcomes some of the bad decisions - and goes all the way - but it's an uphill battle from this point forward. (And it didn't need to be). That's all.

I'm not so extreme in my assessment here because I just know the playoffs are a different animal and guys can step up their games as will the coaching. There have been SOME bright spots in games this year where they have a clue. But it's also a matter of health on the line. Hopefully some rest helped them across the board. Just need more consistency and I think we will put up plenty of points against 49ers, Bears etc.

Yeah they’ve been bad on short rest. Giants kicked their ass too. I tend to think they’ll be better prepared for that bears game defensively. The short rest and how they lost to Dallas felt Like them just having a collapse and also came into the game perhaps not over the loss to Dallas. Also Carter is healthier. Imo Epps might be better suited for that game than Mukuba. Add on you’ve seen them once already so I’m guessing fangio will be in his bag for the second matchup. Unlike the offense I trust Fangio the second time he’s gonna see a team is going to be able to figure out ways to slow them down and stop them. Dallas might have scored 24 but i tend to think the cowboys always give us issues in Dallas unless Dak is out.

Like you said also down their LT. Hunt could have a field day in that game.

That said if they get by San Francisco, I kind of think the Seahawks/Rams would be the Saturday night game. Whereas the 4/5 seed winner of the Steelers/Texans is going to be on Sunday. Cause they’re not gonna make them play on Monday and then play on Saturday they haven’t done that yet since adding MNF for the playoffs. So i think we are probably getting a Sunday game as i dont see them having both nfc games on Saturday.

I could totally see the Packers going with John Harbaugh. And then they didn’t learn the lesson they learned tonight because John Harbaugh has been notorious over the last like four or five years, losing games identical to how the Packers lost tonight.

Thought everyone liked him? He's the 'offensive guy' everyone wishes we had I thought?

Just because he's a great offensive mind doesn't mean we have to like him. He seems like a **** to me. But I respect his talent and wish Patullo even had half of what he does
