All 3 of those guys are pro bowlers and this year theyve struggled mightily.Steen isnt as good as becton in the run game, not many guards are but steen has been better in pass pro and held his own in the run game.If im tanking problems with the offense or the run game Steen is at the bottom of the list.Jurgens, patullo, siri, dickerson would be at the top of my list, one can day well jurgens and Dickerson are hurt and yet the coaches keep trotting them out there to be legless speed bumps, at what point does Stout get some blame?Steen as a swing guard would mean Dickerson could have rested, though.

I remember the Chip years pretty well; I don't care as much that he was a scumbag -- the worst part of Chip the coach (obviously the worst was Chip the GM) was his offense NEVER beat a top 5-10 defense. Anytime they played against the big boys, his "innovative" offense got shut down.
1 hour ago1 hr Just now, Diehardfan said:Steen as a swing guard would mean Dickerson could have rested, though.Bingo. That's been my whole point. You can't just look Becton in a vacuum. Or Milton Williams in a vacuum. Or Ojomo in a vacuum. The overall roster is substantially weaker when it really didn't have to be. Injuries have to be anticipated. And they are creeping up on us now. I'd even take Booker, Kennard and Rodgers. It's not about all the big signings. Alot of the smaller signings/trades haven't panned out. The replacements have been dreck.

I'm not sure either could help, but it's not like we have much to lose given the offensive production. Daboll has history with Jalen at least, and he was scheming to stop this offense earlier this year. It's not like they have to come in and change everything either. Small adjustments over the next 6 weeks shouldn't be a problem, though. It's mainly having someone who can get a play in quickly so Hurts can adjust at the line and someone who can think on their feet and adjust. Two of the same things.

Plus he’s an outside the organization set of eyes that saw and game planned for them this year. I’d use him as a consultant and I’d give loeffler the play calling duties. He’s done it before even at a college level it’s better than none. Nothing I’ve seen from patullo has shown he’s capable of getting better with play calling. Since the bye they gotten worse scoring, worse red zone and worse yards per play.

Imo his play looks like he’s trying to avoid re-injuring it and/or it’s limiting him@HazletonEagle So here's the rub with spine surgery in athletes; it's not nearly as well protocolized or evidence-based as broken bones, torn knee ligaments, or ankle injuries. A player tears an ACL and the average fan knows the exact trajectory they are on. Season immediately over. Surgery. Rehab. Likely back week 1.A player feels a pop in their back, gets some back pain shooting into their leg...MRI shows a disc bulge. They could be back next week. Or their entire career can go south. When the pain and compression are bad enough, they get a minimally invasive microdiscectomy. And the recovery from that has a bigger window than ACL surgery too. Some patients respond really poorly to the work on the back and the structure change...can even pop the disc back out and it's worse than re-tearing an ACL. Others....they really fly after that surgery and it's a much smaller speedbump than a knee injury on a career. The issue is that a lot of that is unknowable up front...which surprises me that they were willing to extend him in the offseason. It's a lot harder for a team doc to rubber stamp a spine than a knee. I do think Howie, after SB titles, has thrown around some sentimental money, including after 2017.

Your last sentence rings true why extend Jurgens off of back surgery and Barkley after year 1 of a 3 year deal. Reminds me of the Sixers with giving Embiid a huge contract one year after an MVP, being all giddy, but not wise as he turns 30 years old with his injury history/bad knee and track record. That was irresponsible for me. I'd rather have put money into assets for 2025 team and 2026 team. Those were one of his first moves of offseason. Why the rush? A 28 year old RB who just peaked, what could go wrong? Could have waited on those for a while. Didn't like them then and do not like them now.
1 hour ago1 hr It's interesting that Steen has been much better than Becton this year. The Chargers would kill to trade Becton for Steen straight up right now. Yet Steen has been much worse than 2024 Becton when you account for how this offense is designed to run. As @Utebird said, Steen has been the 2nd best OL on the team this year and, in many ways, the most reliable. He has been solid in pass pro and doesn't generate much movement on the ground. So even though he's been far more reliable than everyone else, he's still part of the problems in the running game. Also unlike everyone else, he's the only OL in the team that is playing as should have been anticipated. This is exactly what we should have expected from Steen (maybe even a hair better). But that begs the question...why did Howie and Stoutland commit to this fit when they knew it would set the running game back?

1 hour ago1 hr I get why most of you are pissed, I would be too. Here is the reality though, there won't be a coaching change as far as add/removal of a coach/OC this season. At best you might see a change in playcaller that is already on staff, maybe a more involved "consultant", I would be shocked if a change were made and don't see either happening. Should there be? IDK. PHI is still the defending champion, changes like that this late in the year send a completely wrong message to the entire organization and would effect confidence and unity imo. Is someone in the FO questioning their decisions related to the new OC at this point in the year? They should be, but fixing it now is not an option. Turning this thing around offensively is the answer, and coming off of a loss like last night might just be the kind of sting it takes to regain the focus. The players are going to have to make it happen though. The O looked great in the first few drives, AJ looked much quicker than I have seen him all year, Smitty is Smitty, he's gonna ball. Getting the RB's and TE's more involved is a must, however it's done, it just has to get done. The D will be fine, a little banged up after last night but they will be fine.Just like you all say week after week, PHI has the talent, the playcalling has to open up and be more creative, PHI put up 21 points in the first 19-20 minutes of the game yesterday (21-0 @ the 11:32 mark in the 2nd qtr). You don't have to make wholesale changes, a few complimentary wrinkles to some of the things PHI already does well and staying aggressive at the right times will solve a lot of concerns.Like I said I completely understand the rage...PHI is still in the drivers seat though.

Like I've been saying, we will look back at this offseason as being a bad job by Howie of maintaining a Superbowl contender and keeping this bext 2 years the main focus to be 2peats and 3peat champions. Understand he couldn't keep everyone. But he sure missed on a bunch of moves.I said the same thing and got roasted here for saying it.

People forget that Kelce truly had a rough couple years in there around 2012-2014, struggling with a soft anchor. If we are lucky, he can have a similar trajectory.I remember Wentz rookie year people were saying Kelce was bad and constantly getting run over by NT's.
