EMB Blog: 2025 Regular Season (Part 2) ... and Playoffs

Watch the film. Brown is running a high number of his routes half-assed at best and his effort with blocking has been a joke in recent weeks. Not to mention he made a business decision on the high Hurts throw that was intercepted which still hit him between both hands, and then he dropped Hurt's best pass of the night which probably would have won the game. These things can be overlooked if you shut your mouth and play. However, when you run your mouth and cause problems for several weeks you better damn well handle your business and give maximum effort and the dude simply isn't.

Good news. I got an email back from VABeach_Eagle, he is ok. He has been tending to his mother's health as she's been in the hospital, and exhausted lately. He says he will be more available to log on

What's depressing is Howie built a championship roster that is good enough to repeat. The NFL is weak this year overall, and the Eagles should be the team with 11 or 12 wins, #1 seed and easy path to repeat. The defense is strong enough. Despite the issues with Hurts and the O line, a better OC would have them doing enough to win. Yes, a better QB would help an OC like Patullo but they knew they had Hurts under contract and there's no way a change at QB would be made, so Nick should have picked an experienced OC. Even a college OC who knows how to call plays in the right situations would be better.

Just gonna say that back when they had Dicker, I suggested they move on from Jake and keep Dicker. Not because Jake was bad, but because I thought Dicker had the better shelf life. He's 5 years younger, was as clutch as they get in college and they could have saved on Elliot's salary.

We have 4 RBs on the roster, for what?

So we can not run play action

Yesterdays game eagles were averaging something like 9 yards a play under, one of those plays was a play action pass, the first play of the second half which was the first under PA of the game, it went for 20 + yards, I think they ran PA under center one more time the rest of the game.

Eagles like to pretend theyre a running team, theyre not, not because they dont try to run but because they cant, whats point if running all those runs if one isnt going to playaction off them?

Its just negligence to see so many heavy boxes and line up in shotgun and run an inside zone or a "play action" off the shotgun inside zone which fools no one and doesnt influence the LBs even a little or enough to accomplish anything.

Its a stupid offensive scheme with stupid design and stupid coaches calling those stupid plays in stupid ways and all the stats show that

How do you think the team responds Sunday?

I'm feeling that they come out looking kinda dead and demoralized after losing that game in OT, and it's either a nail biter or it's an ugly game where the Eagles lead by 10 the majority of the game, but also aren't playing particularly well and you get the feeling they're only winning because the Raiders are atrocious.

Even if they come out and beat the Raiders, it's going to be hard to get excited about it. They SHOULD beat the Raiders. It should be a ho-hum game. I'm guessing they will make it harder than they need to.

I’d just like to say that the Eagles are not 11.5 points better than ANY NFL team. Take LV with the points all day.

His blocking has been non plus, hes 225 pounds and he blocks like hes 150, all 170 pounds of smitty is a better blocker

Having said that while Browns first drop was impacted by the approaching big hit, and the pass was high and behind him, a no no over the middle, and sure he got both his hands on it and should have technically caught it, thats a real tough catch over your head reaching behind as your momentum carries your body past the ball.

The other one I dont consider a drop. It was either PI or just better defense by the DB, would have been great if he pulled it in but defense gets paid too

The one I thought he could have actually got with a bit more effort was one where he reached out and touched it with one hand, not first play later in the second half. DB was holing him and face guarding him and could have easily been a DPI as well but I felt AJ could have fought harder for position, maybe he was worried about getting an OPI.

As for AJs talk I have zero issue with anything hes said, to the press or online

The offense is a 💩 he just said what every one already knows

I swear to god if we lose to the raiders

In an attempt to keep me from throwing myself out a window or off a bridge or something, which both seem to be favorable outcomes compared to having to watch the Eagles offense right now, I went searching for something, anything, that could offer me the slightest glimmer of hope because I'll hold out hope that they'll get their crap together until the day they're eliminated. As a fan since the 70's, there are so many years that I remember that were much more hopeless, much earlier- this is honestly the most disgusted I've been with their performance since the "Dream Team" year (even 2023, I knew early that their defense was hot garbage, and it's hard to win with a terrible defense). What is so annoying is that I think many of us had reasonably high expectations for this season, and half of the team is holding up their end of the bargain on most days, while the other is falling well short of the level of expectation.

So, here's my sliver of optimism that I'm going to clutch on to for the time being. There have been 7 teams that have sustained 3-game losing streaks during the regular season and gone on to win the Super Bowl, but one of those shouldn't count (a Saints team that sustained a 3-game losing streak with the #1 seed already clinched). So, 6 out of 59 Super Bowl champions (more than 10%- not great, but bigger than I thought it would be) have had such a streak, and those streaks were all against stretches in their schedule that were comparable to or easier than the 3-game stretch that the Eagles have just finished, and I'm sure that every fan of each of those teams was apoplectic about their performance as we all are right now. BTW, for those of you who might be thinking that none of those teams had an offense as dysfunctional as this one, one of those teams scored 0 TDs and 15 points total over the 3 games in their losing streak.

With the way this defense performs, especially in most of the biggest moments, a league-average offense would be good enough to win most games against most teams. Is a league-average offense too much to ask for? Anyway, sorry for the blabby-blabby post. Have a great rest of your day everyone, and continue to be thankful that we aren't Browns fans.

Yep. Exactly right. I said it earlier but KC got to the SB with a bad OL last year. Even an average OC would have this team in first place in the NFC

He's only there because we had a revolving door at WR coach and they wanted it to stop. He was lucky we got Brown and Smith who basically kept him safe

I think we'd have to top last nights mess for us to lose to a team that is tanking for the #1 pick

Though I fear the offense would accept the challenge

Exactly this. They are coaches, FFS. Take the assets you have and assess the players for their baseline and their slight reach.

Coach to that, dummies. Stop dreaming about what you wish you could do. Stop reaching for things that the players can't do on a play by play basis.

I don't even know what people want honestly. People are just yelling "FIX IT", but the question is...how? People say the offense is too basic, sure. So they open it up a little against the Chargers in terms of what they ask from Jalen. You see what happens. That's because Jalen isn't the type of player who can really lead a team with his arm without elite scheme (Shanahan style). Everyone seems to understand this, but they don't process it. Okay so you can't do that, the team can't run block to save their life but there's a nice immaculate pocket to pass protect with...

I just don't get what people want them to do from a schematics standpoint. I hate to break it to you guys, but if your QB needs elite scheming AND a strong running game to do anything, the QB is a clear problem.

I think this is easier to understand in hindsight. The truth is, internal promotions aren't uncommon after Super Bowl berths if staff are plucked, but it happening two times in three years (teams waiting until after SB to poach you) is almost unprecedented. But honestly, I think we're quickly starting to understand why there seems to be this constant shift to 'put it on the O-Line' and to run more with Sirianni's group, and it's that Hurts doesn't seem to do all that great when asked to be the primary offense creator on the team.

Who cares at this point, if we make it to the playoffs, we'll get bounced 1st round and Patullo will likely be back next season.

Best scenario is we lose out, Patullo gets shitcanned, we get a pick in the 20's, get a 1st for AJ and move up in the draft to grab Lane's replacement or a QB.

I haven't completely given up on Hurts, but I feel he's going down the same road as Wentz....

Don't forget the first for McKee. Owning the 1st round!!!!

So this is 2023 part II glad I didn’t stay up 🫠

If this means the eagles lose the division and the cowboys get embarrassed at home in we round I’m all for it.

Howie and Nick know the QB they have, the QB they gave a contract extension to, his strengths, limitations and weaknesses and what he needs to succeed. They learned the lesson of internal promotion of an inexperienced OC with Brian Johnson (who was better than Patullo). They went outside, hired an experienced OC. Granted, they had a dominant run game and historic year from Barkley. This year if they had half that run game and O line play, they would be much better off. Hurts was actually playing fine earlier in the year.

Nick should have hired an outside OC with experience calling plays. A Super Bowl contender trying to repeat isn't the recipe to experiment with a new OC who never called plays. You try that in a rebuild year with a young team. This team is built to win. The defense hasn't collapsed because of Fangio. The offense has enough talent that with a better OC the offense would do enough to win, despite Hurts issues.

This offseason Patullo will be a scapegoat and Howie/Lurie will force Nick to hire outside again. And if the offense is better, that would answer if the OC is the problem. If the OC is much better and Hurts struggles, then that answers the QB just isn't it long term. Some players regress. It happens. But Hurts contract means he stays for now, so they have to maximize the roster with better coaching.

The time will come that they'll move on from Hurts. If Nick is still here and he wants to get a strong passing QB that fits what he wants more like a Philip Rivers mold, then everyone will be happy and as long as that QB has enough talent around him and a decent OC then the team should perform.

Having said all that, I do think benching Hurts should have been done in the Bears game to send a message and see if McKee gives a spark. Should've done it at halftime last night. Now it won't happen at all this season.

Next highest is 13

It's very possible that Garrett breaks the record

I hope he does. Strahan doesn't deserve to be the all time single season sack leader, (even if it's a shared record). Favre laid down for his friend.

He could get it in that Bengals game lol
