There’s too many good open spots for coaches this year

I feel like this was the year to fire Nick.

Maybe Bills just promote Joe Brady.

McDermott will probably get a HC gig if he wants it

I could see McDaniel to the Bills now

Another opening

We might be in trouble, there's too many openings with playoff organizations. Problematically, they have to hire someone, and the Steelers, Ravens, and Bills right now are organizations which HC candidates should feel really comfortable going to. We're about a 'Tomlin taking a year off' away from having to compete with three head coaching jobs, and if they don't hire Joe Brady, this could be rough.

Normally the Eagles could make the argument that 'if you take the job here, your HC chances will increase dramatically', but this is probably the best round of openings in a long time. Worse, Harbaugh went to NY and is ripping up all their problems in the organization - if he's even slightly successful, Eagles will have to contend with Giants knowing how to complete for the division again.

This offseason is not going well at all so far, hopefully we can snap up someone solid.

That would be my guess.

I've been less than impressed with OC candidates connected to the Eagles so far. Lurie would have been better off firing Siri.

Yup. I don’t think he’s the coach for a Super Bowl contender but for a rebuild he’d work well.

McDermott is another version of Harbaugh and Tomlin. Stale, out of ideas and stuck hitting the ceiling of wins. A shame as I think he's a good person IRL, but the Bills need fresh ideas. Badly

I could see a team like the cardinals being interested in him.

How many teaks need an OC now?

😂 my cousin just sent this to me:

I just saw a post that said terrible news. CJ Stroud plays entire game with torn uterus 🤣

My guess is it due diligence across a lot different candidates based on the market not really getting HC appointments, or wink wink unconfirmed reports that X is no HC of Y, yet. Don't want to be caught off guard with someone going off the market, can prioritise a list and work from it

I don't think it would have helped very much. You notice how it's like the league is cleaning out the rest of the non-offensive guys that did well enough but can't get over the hump?

Harbaugh -> ST/CEO
Tomlin -> Defense
McDermott -> Defense

We have Vic so in all these situations, these firings don't help us in the slightest. We probably would have had to gamble on a young OC if we didn't get McDaniel, and if we got them from the Shanahan or McVay tree, they almost certainly would have not been calling plays. So we would have ended up yet again with a Head Coach without a history of calling plays unless we hired Mike McDaniel, who doesn't work well with Vic, so we wouldn't have hired him as our head coach.

I think unless people here wanted Harbaugh or something, which would have been almost impossible considering he wanted full control, we would have been in some deep crap.

At least Slowik is available, that at least gives us a safety net as OC. Hiring him as HC though would have been a real gamble.

Some people here insist on Stefanski though, and I don't know enough about him, but maybe there's a reason for it?

Didn’t even know he was on the hot seat

Falcons hired Stefanski

Since LaFleur with the Rams is my first choice, I hope we ask for an interview. Maybe we have and been denied but it these things get out. I have a feeling there is some hesitation from the top guys coming here. Seems odd to me, but a team with the Eagles recent pedigree only getting 2nd tier interviews for OC is odd to me. Something is up, that is for sure. A SB team with great talent across the board is only getting interviews with passing game coordinators and interim HCs while teams like Tampa, Chargers. Detroit are getting first crack at the establishes guys.

Need to get our guy before Bills snag him now

Yes, but the post was referring to the theoretical situation that we had fired Sirianni, which was in response to the quote. I was saying that in the situation that we did, the new entries to the market are largely coaches that aren't offensive side of the ball, but then noted people here seem to love the idea of Stefanski, I just wasn't sure why.

I said a couple years ago the biggest mistake they’re gonna make is not moving on from McDermott to get Sean Payton when Payton was available. This wasn’t because McDermott really deserved to get fired at the time or wasn’t a solid head coach. Imo the upgrade from him to Peyton with Allen at Qb and what he could bring out of that offense was something you shouldn’t pass up. I have felt like McDermot had taken them as far as they could go and they needed a new voice ala Bucs with dungy. Now you’re looking for a head coach but besides tomlin (overrated) there’s not a head coach of that type of caliber available. So you’re taking a gamble on probably a retread that hits big but didn’t have nearly as much success or a first time head coach that you’re hoping becomes a great coach.

I could see us losing McDaniel to Bills

No, we got unlucky because this cycle has head coaching spots available at top locations, as well as a highly respected first domino in John Harbaugh. So everyone ended up waiting for Harbaugh to land, kinda like waiting for the first draft pick to sign a contract that sets precedent. Because we have a need for offense but not defense, and the new entries were defense and special teams, we're in an odd spot.

Also, there's the fact that LaFleur is an OC, so it's a lateral move, OC positions normally aren't filled by lateral moves unless someone got fired, like Steichen in 2020 -> 2021.
