Eagles coaching searches usually appear to be slow & not overly great. And quite frankly more often than not they lead to a lesser known candidate. But somehow they've generally yielded good results when hiring externally

Well that was also because he didn't do anything after Brees. But that team like you said it was a dumpster fire. It was run horrible and Brees kept it afloat

Broncos built a great team

Just saying it wasn’t a great broncos team before he got there. They went 7-10 and 5-12 the two years prior. Peyton went out after Wilson failed, and got Nix. Cause he identified Nix as a quarterback he loved. They’ve gone to the playoffs in back-to-back years. Winning 10+ games in both years.

I’d add Payton was only with the saints without Brees for a year. His QBs were Trevor sieman, Tyson hill and Ian book. They won nine games. That’s pretty impressive to go from Drew brees to that slop at quarterback and yet still managed to win nine games.

Although, and sorry to quote this twice - normally wouldn't but important comment: Sounds like the entire FO was in on it when it's put that way, Sirianni didn't have that kind of leeway if it was from as early as the Div round...right?

I never thought it was all Sirianni’s decision. I do think because he had been with him for so long and sirianni probably said if I had my choice, I would go with Pattulo. That the Eagles brass was likely accepting of the input because they also thought that Pattulo could be that as I’m guessing they also liked him and thought he was ready for that role.

Is that supposed to be in defense of Payton or just because I said he's overrated and it was Brees that carried him?

I think the 2 had a bit of a symbiotic relationship. Brees…like Peyton outside of his SB run really struggled in the playoffs quite often (though he lost a couple shoot outs in the 2 years after). Match made in heaven…Payton said f it i have Brees throw it 40+ times a game. Brees usually put up gaudy stats.

Defense of Payton and potentially of Mcdermott

I'll admit that part of it is that I just don't like him 🤷‍♂️

I remember Joe Brady was a huge fan favorite for HC

No, I'm saying it's ironic more than they couldn't. I could have come up with a couple candidate ideas, and I did, but honestly it would have been mostly people that everyone forgot about if the timing was poor with Slowik.

I just think it's ironic that now they got out in perfect time to do so, and it's still an adventure to say the least because this is probably the most good jobs open in a long time.

Slowik would be held in much higher standard right now if he didn’t get into a spat with CJ stroud in stroud’s second season. That’s what got him fired with the Texans. But now looking at in hindsight, it makes sense why he said what he did to CJ. he got the most out of CJ his rookie year. And CJ has now regressed each consecutive year. so the issue is beginning to look more and more like cj is the issue and less so with slowik

Never have…the whole bounty gate thing made it even easier to hate him.

He was the guy i wanted. He had a lot going for him at the time coming off that LSU season. If I remember correctly, the reason why he didn’t get a head coaching job was because a lot of people said he didn’t interview well.

How does Brandon Beane get a promotion? He sucks

He’s the world‘s biggest **** bag. He won the battle and lost the war on Saturday. Frankly that’s karma

You draft Josh Allen you get unlimited time

Caleb Williams had a fun season but it seems like a lot of those Eli Manning prayers are going to wind up in the hands of DBs next year just from the law of averages.

I would be very comfortable with Joe Brady as our OC

The Stroud memes are brutal today.

Would be very surprised if Joe Brady is not the next Bills HC.

CJ for sure was good his rookie season, but the AFC South was terrible. They had a pretty cupcake schedule and went 10-7…after that the flaws started coming out against better talent consistently.

That’s his game…he’s allowed 1 good play per set of downs. The others are completely brain dead. Now he progressed a lot over the course of the season. Watching Ben Johnson just stare in disgust at him the first few weeks was hilarious. Eventually he started to play a bit more within the system.

Dear god he was horrible. I’m still amazed they didn’t bench him. It’s not like he was on some mega deal

I like Brady but I'm not as crazy about him as some others. It wasn't too long ago where he was almost out of the league after going to the Panthers and not doing much. There was even talk about him going back to college. Not sure how much of that was his fault, but of course you're gonna look good with Josh Allen.

No, we got unlucky because this cycle has head coaching spots available at top locations, as well as a highly respected first domino in John Harbaugh. So everyone ended up waiting for Harbaugh to land, kinda like waiting for the first draft pick to sign a contract that sets precedent. Because we have a need for offense but not defense, and the new entries were defense and special teams, we're in an odd spot.

Also, there's the fact that LaFleur is an OC, so it's a lateral move, OC positions normally aren't filled by lateral moves unless someone got fired, like Steichen in 2020 -> 2021.

LaFleur doesn't call plays so my thinking g is its a promotion if he calls plays for us.

So with Stefanski going to ATL, does he keep Ulbrich as DC, or wait and see if he can bring Schwartz, assuming Schwartz doesn't get the HC gig in CLE?

the 2024 afc south was actually worse. Every team in the division besides the Texans were below .500. In 2023 3 of the 4 teams finished above .500. He was bad in 2024 comparatively to 2023.
