This hire doesn’t matter if he doesn’t get to use his own system. If he’s running the same garbage from last season they essentially just hired a first time play caller. Which is why I have hope they will use his system because if they wanted to guy who could just call plays from Sirianni’s playbook they would’ve went with a retread.

I still can't understand the visceral hate for a head coach that won the SB less than a year ago?

I had a very high suspicion it was Mannion when several coaches pulled out of the job and then his 2nd interview was announced.

McDaniel and Daboll went in a different direction, but they both would have been 1 and done here. At least with Mannion, if he's successful then the Eagles get him for 2-3 years, and if he's not then the FO will clear house and start looking for a new HC.

Malik Willis is a FA. It's the last year to get any return for McKee, even if it's a late rounder. Willis as QB2, trade McKee, add young arm in the draft.

Has AJ tweeted and then deleted a response to this yet? ph34r

If Patullo stays as PGC this hire immediately deflates. Need to bring in an exciting PGC.

The question is what is his system? He has been under McVay and LeFleur but we don't know what his ideas are. That said I do expect a new system. Seems pretty clear they wanted that

I think he’s a proven winner as a CEO type coach but he needs coordinators that run their own rooms. I feel like you have to match him with the right guy or he will be way too involved in the 3 and out fest.

Whatever it is, I assume it excited Howie and Lurie. Lurie has always wanted a cutting edge offensive mind in the building. I don't think they'd have hired Mannion unless he really impressed them.

Willis is signing somewhere for decent money to compete for a starting job…

Dammit. I forgot he was still here…

Ok scrap that, we're doomed. The downside to this is probably not full autonomy.

Remember, our QB has a unique skill set. Whatever concepts he's likes from elsewhere will need to be modified or excluded to match Hurts' abilities and preferences.

The value of Mannion is he's a completely different animal than Siri has been around, comes from a different coaching tree.

So this is both about revamping the offense and expanding Siri's concept of offense (for the next OC if he succeeds and gets a HC job in a couple years).

I can't imagine him being hired if Siri objected, so this suggests he's realized the current approach is well into diminishing returns.

A gamble, but any OC is a gamble.

Given that Howie will probably shed some salary on offense and go younger like they did on defense, they can't rely on an elite OL and three top skill players and just out talent people anymore.

So they need to learn how to maximize output from players like Cooper, a drafted TE, etc.

That means less reliance on setting up one on one matchups and more on scheming guys open.

Have to assume that was part of the interview process and they liked what they heard

I’d be surprised. Moore was much more experienced and he didn’t really run his system. I’d expect the approach is to ease him in and hope it works.

That's probably because he's inexperienced. Would have preferred they bring someone else in still and keep Nick out of it

Oh good…let the overreactive trolling begin…

Someone @ that Packer fan to troll a bit. I forget his name

EJ Smith said he thinks they will fully let him install his system. That he doesn't have a lot of experience in the current offensive system the Eagles have been running and it would be foolish to bring him here and force him to run something he doesn't know well or specialize in.

He and Bo both think the Eagles offense will look significantly different next season and think the offseason will be spent on finding guys who fit the McVay play action based style passing system. And outside zone blocking running scheme.
