Even more exciting news….

I don't know enough about O-line play or whatever scheme they even plan on running, but for those that wanted Becton back, does the Stoutland news change that opinion at all? Becton always seems to be average at best to bad anywhere besides his one year with Stoutland.

Nate Tice doesn't think the Eagles will be running a Shanahan style offense, but more of a Kellen Moore-ish, Shane Steichen, Air Coryell style offense given his ties to Mike Riley in college.

Just one man's opinion of course. Other guys who cover the team have said they think the Eagles want the Shanahan/McVay oriented scheme.

I listened to it and I really have no idea how he got all the way to that conclusion. Seems like a big leap to skip over the McVay and LaFleur stuff to use his college playbook.

Was Stout shown the door or did he retire?

Neither, he quit. He's still under contract but he quit the team.

He may not want to come here anyway along with other o-lineman. Stout U was something that we could use to bring in higher talented guys that maybe haven't exactly panned out yet for whatever reason. We no longer have that advantage over other teams. I wanted to look at Vera-Tucker, figured Stout could work with him whether in a multi year deal or 1 year like Becton, doubt that happens now unless we pay big multi years.

Yeah, we're better off without Stout. Shame on you Howie & Jeff for allowing the imbecile Siri and his rag tag, tag along Patullo for treating a damn legend in Stout this way. What a f'n joke we are, complete joke.

Hang the banner!!!!!!!

So he'll do well here, become an OC for the 49ers in 2 years, then a HC and SF gets the comp picks!

Hard to say exactly what happened. It’s true that he’s had two collapses which did happen after SB seasons.

In the end Sirriani will succeed or fail this year based on the O results. If he made good choices then the CEO thing is positive and if he made bad ones then he’s probably gone

There was no collapse this season. They won 4 games, lost 2, won 4 games, lost 3, won 3 more games before sitting everyone for the last one.

Every year in the NFL is different. The dynasty talk is laughable; their OL played like a MASH unit all year long and their franchise QB is inconsistent from game-to-game — and ALWAYS HAS BEEN. Hurts is not a good enough player to be elite year after year. Anyone who thinks he’s a superstar of some sort is only fooling themselves, and need to understand he’s a declining player at this point. Yes, I mean from this minute onwards.

It sucks that Stoutland is moving on, but he’s turning 64 next week and the Eagles had him as an elite position coach for 13 years — which is a long damn time for a position coach. Change doesn’t have to mean destruction.

I don't blame him. Stoutland was mostly responsible for making an Australian Rugby player a Super Bowl champion and very wealthy man.

Man the mobile version of this site is rough

Given how much of a commitment the Eagles are making to Mannion and how they have basically given him the keys to guide this ship in the exact way that they want it without Sirianni having any say on the offensive staff. It's pretty clear based on who is being brought in that these are all Mannion guys. I hope Lurie and Howie have some type of a plan or vision of what they are going to do if Mannion turns out to be the real deal, like a young savant coach and teams want him in a year. They can't keep going through this every year. Especially in 2027 after how much turnover there was this year already. This has to be the last year of this BS cycle every year.

That’s what happens when you hire a HC who is a moron.

Good point. Lane may exit as well. The OL will be re-built by the new, and young, OC and his staff. Wonder if Nick may also be moving on, if not this season, the next one.

Yikes

Bo said talking to people down there at the Super Bowl, he's hearing the vibes are pretty low in the Novacare complex right now.

Oh no!!!

There's a pretty simple explanation for this as it applies to the Eagles. Personnel. With Dickerson and Becton we had two huge and powerful guards. With the center double teaming to either side, we ran inside zone because our guards could block anybody 1-on-1 and, with the center doubling, we could create a hole with either the C or G climbing to the second level. We had the personnel to win inside, so that's where we ran...a lot. We did it years earlier with Brooks and Seumalo. With somewhat smaller and more agile interior linemen, teams run outside zone or wide zone or stretch where the OL try to get the DL moving sideways and let the RB pick his hole. Personnel for this offense: OL who can move and an RB who can read the blocks and make a decisive cut, like Terrell Davis or Christian McCaffery. The Eagles ran some OZ but more often we ran a pin and pull, where one of the guards would block the man covering the center and the center would pull around, go past the OT to whatever side, then turn up with the RB behind him. We did it because we had centers who could run in Kelce and Jurgens.

So, the answer to what teams run, not just the Eagles, is personnel. Whether they draft and/or sign specific types of players is another matter. Stoutland obviously likes big guys. Howard Mudd liked agile guys. Juan Castillo liked heavy guys, primarily to pass block.

Ill take guys that dont use crutches on the field .

Dickerson and Jurgens both obviously banged up couldnt move all year, they werent functional OL.

I dont care what the new guy does scheme wise if the OL cant move the scheme wont work.
