This makes little sense. When they added Phillips, they demonstrated a flexibility you are claiming they don't have.

What do you mean? It was a trade. I'm not saying they aren't flexible, I'm saying I hope they're willing to be. I have no idea if they are willing to bend on this philosophy or not. But if there comes a time where a middle tier salary guy is a quality option for the team I'm hoping they won't scoff at it merely because "That's not how we operate."

Howie is an incredibly flexible GM. He's always value-hunting.

Quinyon wasn't even their #1 target in 2024 (Troy Fautanu). Nolan Smith wasn't part of their plan at 31 (but was at 10). We weren't trying to sign an expensive running back, but Barkley was an elite player who can at a relative discount.

His entire approach is go get as much talent as possible, however you can get it. Most teams just stick to draft/development and don't deviate at all from their plans.

Someone tell Taryn Hatcher I’ll hire her 😉

My point is they need to be flexible and be willing to alter course and not just arbitrarily hold to a strategy just because. Some offseasons it may suit them but others it may not.

I remember telling people for years the Eagles need to spend an offseason or two focusing less on the lines and bolstering the back 7. People would tell me that they don't and investing heavily on the lines every year has worked for them, so why change? In 2024 they spent an offseason loading up on the back 7, took a CB in round 1 for the first time in over 20 years, and they win a Super Bowl that season, largely because they had the best back 7 in the NFL. Change can be good. And no philosophy should be blindly followed regardless of circumstance. I believe the Eagles will need to deviate from this philosophy at some point. Hopefully they're willing to.

They have adjusted and been flexible. This offseason they asked BG to come back, got Za'Darius Smith out of retirement, signed Uche and Ojulari and then traded for Phillips. They have Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt as the starters. If they let Phillips walk they'll replace him with a draft pick or cheaper free agent. They can't keep everyone. They have their eyes on the prize of the core young defenders they're going to have to extend.

They've changed philosophies in investing in LB and drafted 2 corners a couple years ago after not doing that for 20 years.

People saying trade Jalen Carter and he wasn't that good last year. It was blatantly clear from the start he was nowhere near 100% and honestly a mistake by the Eagles not to address that early on properly just like they did with aome other players (Dickerson and Cam).

It's hard to know how much of it is a training staff issue vs. team doctor vs. the player wanting to play. They clearly avoid physical practices to preserve health for games. I would not be surprised if the culture of the training staff and the doctor(s) were to push players to return to play.

Richardson shouldn't fetch higher than a 7th round pick, and very possibly a positional change.

Developmental low priced QB is a great position. He probably has a much better chance at making it as a back up vs. changing positions.

Not low priced though. He carries over a $10M cap hit this year.

They signed Maxen Hook from Toledo as an UDFA last year. I bet they have spent a fair amount of time already scouting him.

Not sure I agree with that. The secondary philosophy with the Birds is S centric. Well, idle of the field centric. And every time they have had to go with slower Ss, it shows cracks. I would argue the biggest need for the team on defense may well be at S this offseason. If speed wasn’t an issue at the position, Sam would have made the team.

Please spare me any Ringo to S posts. Right now they have Mukuba coming off an ankle break, Brown and Sam. Maybe Carter but not at his size and salary.

If the Eagles do anything other than draft cheap, young, and controllable talent on offense (preferably an OT) while multiple massive extensions are looming on defense, it would absolutely be idiotic.

Man, the DT are putting on an athletic show. Fully expect Howie to add in the draft to keep the DT room young and growing to prepare for departures.

I can see them drafting LB to spite you. Also, I think there is a decent possibility they draft an Edge depending on what happens with Phillips.

Not sure how the Eagles do it, but Daniel Jeremiah said teams are going to a more baseball approach with focusing on development. He said a lot of teams have their position coaches focus on preparing players for Sundays while they have their assistant position coaches focus on player development.

I don’t much about this guy beyond this tweet, but dayum. I’m intrigued.

this part got cut off for some reason. Look at that burst.

Only see an Ojomo type on Day 3

Most likely, but he'll add someone.

Yep, Delp is a player I'd be VERY happy with.

I completely understand and believe in the philosophy of draft the BPA, but this roster is so lopsided with the salary cap, I can't fathom them drafting defense early again. Especially since they have absolutely nailed their defensive drafts over the last 4 years resulting in having to pay the piper. They almost don't have a choice.

It's a shame the Eagles biggest needs are all on offense(unless Phillips walks and they need Edge) because this draft really is so much better on the defensive side.

If I could do it over again I'd redo the first two rounds last draft and go OL last year.

Been my TE 1 for a long time

The Eagles need help offensively at WR (potentially), future OT and TE. The draft is very good at those spots.

Ok PSU guys can Dennis play olb?
