Under his old contract, he would have had a $4.8 million dead cap hit this year and over $6 million next season. I don't think that small increase makes a difference in terms of the decision to potentially bring in competition.

He had a $5M option bonus this year which wasn’t but is now fully guaranteed. They would add $5M in dead cap to what you said if the plan was for competition

My alma mater is trying to win its first-ever tournament game and I’m relegated to watching on my phone while standing in long lines at Disney.

I thought we learned to not take RickeyScoops seriously at this point after the 228 things he got horribly wrong this offseason.

A declining RB coming off injury. Don't expect too much. Had a promising rookie season though.

Yeah but he is a Howie roll the dice guy. Don't expect much but possible to surprise us so I'm happy about it

They are showing they were completely blindsided by him falling off a cliff when they gave him his last contract and they are basically stuck with him even though he has established himself as the worst kicker in the league.

Being blindsided by him falling off a cliff is a possibility.

But if the eagles are willing to take big cap hits to move off of high priced players like Wentz, or AJ Brown, surely they can do it to get rid of a kicker making 5 or 6 million much more easily.

The eagles have likely upped their commitment to him for reasons.

Has Rickey Scoops weighed in yet?

Reminder that some of these cheap signings are camp bodies, kick the tires see if anything's there, do they keep them for special teams, put on practice squad for emergency, etc. And some will get cut in August.

Just like the AJ Dillion signing we werent sure he would even make the team. Pierce is clearly behind Bigsby, but Shipley will have competition from Pierce and likely another trough the draft or UDFA.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have an issue with signing guys to see if there's anything there, special teams, rejuvenate their career in a new team, stash on the practice squad in case of injury and all that. But some fans treat every signing as if it means something more.

I think because they find themselves now in a situation where moving off of brown is inevitable that they don't want to eat the hit of Elliott as well. The re-working of the deal yesterday created more cap space for this year. So they are continuing to prepare for that AJ hit.

Seems like desperation. Seems like a long shot of hope that it works out but I would put the odds of him turning his career around ar very low at this point. When kickers lose it they seem to really lose it.

THIS TEAM IS SIGNING DRECK! I COULD PLAY BETTER THAN ALL OF THESE GUYS AND I AM WAY SMARTER THE HOWIE ROSEMAN!!!! AND EVERYONE ON HERE SUCKS AND IS STUPID!! AND EVEN THOUGH I'M TELLING PEOPLE WHAT NOT TO DO ON HERE I'LL HAVE SOMEONE ON HERE SAY YOU SHOULDN'T TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO ON HERE EVEN THOUGH THAT IS TELLING SOMEONE WHAT TO DO!!!!

Gee, that's fun! lmao

Just when I thought you couldn't be any more low functioning and simple minded...wow...you have totally redeemed yourself!

Starting to get the feeling this will kind of be it until the draft and no splash at Edge. Which would be incredibly disappointing. They positively cannot start the season with Nolan and Jalyx as their two starting Edge guys or it's going to be hard to take this team seriously as a SB contender. That's just not a championship worthy pass rush. We'll see if Howie has anything cooked up, but starting to get "wind down phase" vibes from the Eagles free agent moves the last couple days.

Stone Smartt's receiving numbers are close to Calcaterra's, with less games played (rookie year he only played in 7 games). Anyone know how he is as a blocker? Would be nice if they cut Calcaterra in camp so we don't have to deal with him anymore. Mundt is a better blocker.

And of course we all hope they still draft a TE to develop as the future TE1.

I was posting about the Syracuse TE yesterday that blew up his pro day. He was a QB to TE convert.

Now, the eagles have had Jackson as a QB>TE convert, and have signed Stone Smart. Seems like they like these guys.

Syracuse guy is one to keep an eye on then. Great size, 4.4 speed. See if you can train him up to block.

Pearce signing brings in competition for TC without spending a pick. It’s fine.

Jake Elliot is washed up. Let's face it. 2 years in a row, ranking 28th & 30th in FG percentage in 2024 & 2025. This is now in Aryn Siposs territory. Should have cut him and never looked back. Now they are stuck with him, like the Phillies have been stuck with Taijuan Walker. It's all dreck. When the offense has to stay on the field because you have no confidence in your kicker you know you are in trouble. Better be good on 4th down.

Sad because he is only 31. Not that old for a kicker.

The spelling is correct and the grammar is fine. Not enough random upper and lower case randomly thrown in there to represent how this was written by a five year old or a psycho.

I give it 5 out of 10 Howie's.

howiehowiehowiehowiehowie

lol If Jake kicks accurately in 2026 season then all will be forgiven from fans that right now despise him

Like this a lot for RB3

There was a report right after the deadline the Eagles we're trying hard to trade for Pierce.

At this point, you’re mostly signing guys that are depth and practice squad vets so there’s no real complaints by me for guys like Smartt or Pierce. It’s just funny that Howie said he’s looking at TE differently, and he re-signed Goedert (who fell off a cliff as a blocker) and Calcaterra (a legit awful blocker). Mundt is a legit blocker while Smartt is like 6-4, 230 and a QB-WR-TE convert.

Maybe Goedert will put more effort in this year since he seemed disinterested as a blocker, particularly when they lined him up at fullback.

The draft should offer us plenty of options. I’m all in on Oscar Delp.

Koo was a really good kicker and has been bad for a couple of years. Same age. In 2024 we could afford to have a bad kicker, not any more. They need every point they can get. My goal this offseason for Howie was to win on the margins as salary cap is an issue. Didn't do that last year. Jury is still out this year. It's a crapshoot with many of these moves thus far. Mixed bag so far.

Why would they? They were barely using Tank and had Shipley.

At 54 I think that’s a pretty good deal - Howell might have a bright future as a DPR which is essentially what we need with Nolan/Jalyx playing on early downs/neutral situations. Conversely, I kind of liked Epenesa or a bigger DE prospect for when need to go heavy or kicked-in for nascar (e.g., Jacas).

that's fair. I can agree with that
