If that rumor is true, then AJ being mad at Hurts is petty and silly. I can't blame a guy for not wanting to insert himself into that drama. AJ should've just talked to Reddick and handled it however they chose to. What's also interesting if this is actually true, is it would mean that AJ was messing around on his own gf at the time (who is now his wife), so that's even more incentive for Hurts to ignore the situation.

Either way, stuff like this is why I'm just glad he's gone. AJ must've really looked up to Vrabel because that kinda stuff is what he was doing with Russini.

Trading AJ was absolutely the right thing to do. And I think the value was fine. He’s an ageing WR who wanted out. A WR who caused drama off the field, clearly lacked effort at times on the field and it seems had major issues privately with Jalen.

Getting a first round pick for 2028 is good as it gives us the opportunity to further evaluate Jalen. I think he’ll play better with AJ gone and that move will ultimately help him. But there’s no doubt he needs to now step up because a 2028 first gives Howie plenty of time to further evaluate. I think in some ways it’s given Jalen more rope. But in others it’s a move that could allow Howie to go get a top QB in 2028.

That's a great point about further evaluating Hurts to see if he can perform at a high level when asked to break from his comfort zone to do things he was reluctant to do or didn't do well but should be asked to do them in what will be the new offensive system being installed under Mannion. There were already rumors earlier in the offseason about this. And you are right ... the timing of that 1st we got from NE could very well be perfect as it gives us 2 years to engage in that evaluation process to know if we need a new QB in 2028. Coincidentally 2027 just so happens to be the final year with any guaranteed money in his current contract. If we were to cut ties with him after 2027 it would result in only a $24.3M dead money hit to the cap (and that is without using a pre June 1 designation) and yield $23.2M in cap savings. Getting the massive QB contract off the books is always huge for being able to field a strong roster around a younger QB playing on a (relatively) cheaper rookie contract.

I don’t know who will be where in 2028. Potentially a lot of players will not be Eagles by then and that includes Johnson, Dickerson, and Barkley.

I think it’s more likely the Eagles do a deal with Hurts. I don’t see Howie drafting a guy in 2028 and handing the team over to him as a rookie.

Be careful with using the websites on the dead money, as the rolling guarantee structure makes their numbers unreliable. If we move on from Jalen after the 2027 season, the dead money total is ~$94.1 million. He would have been paid $209.8mm in cash through the end of 2027, and his cap charges would have been $115.7 million.

It also doesn’t preclude them from using that pick in next years draft to move up if they wanted to. But equally it could be used to rebuild the OL or any number of options really. I guess that flexibility is just really big.

I’m not sure… I mean I agree I don’t think they feel their window has closed. I’m not sure I agree with them on that right now. But retool and add young talent to this offense and sure in a year or so they can absolutely be right back amongst it.

A good passing game? A consistent passing game? It’s what the Eagles want they just brought in an OC who in from the McVay, Shanahan tree so they recognise the passing offense hasn’t been good enough and change is needed.

Behave yourself... perfect doesn't exist. He's had a different OC every year, with very little consistency, and still been a champion and a winner. If Jalen isn't good enough for you by this point, if you still need to see more from him, if he needs to prove himself more to you, I have no idea what to say to you. Maybe we should give Andy Dalton a shot
